There was a show called Family that co-starred Kristy McNichol. You are thinking of the series Life Goes On.
Oh, yes “Life Goes On”. I had them confused. I loved the theme song.

And who could forget Hoss and Little Joe Cartwright? I do forget the other brother’s name, but I do remember that he was very good looking! Ahhhh, the good old days of TV.

Way back, when “family hour” was really family hours, The waltons and Little House on the Prairie. Then there was one called “Family”, I think, that had the boy with Down Syndrome.

You never had to worry what your children were watching back then.
the one with the boy with Down’s syndrome was “Life goes on”
It was excellent.

I miss all the family shows that actually had a father and mother married to each other in them. like (Father knows best, My three sons, Donna Reed show, Leave it to Beaver etc.
Not to hijack the thread but why can’t we have functional families on TV anymore?

Ah, Bonanza’s oldest brother, Adam (played by Pernell Roberts). The only actor of the four Cartwrights still alive. . .also played “Trapper John” in “Trapper John, MD”. (David Canary who played Candy went on to act in soap operas). And Mitch Vogel was a child actor who appeared in the last seasons when the Cartwright ‘boys’ were down to Joe (Dan Blocker, who played Hoss, having died and Pernell having left the series much earlier to avoid being ‘type cast’ etc. ) who was now solidly middle-aged.

Oh, and Hoss’s other name was “Eric” (his mother, Ben’s second wife, was Swedish). Adam’s mother was Elizabeth and she was a New Englander. Joe’s mother Marie was of French extraction. Watching the ‘flashback’ episodes which detailed all the marriages was a hoot to see Ben with a dark wig/dye job.

Though Little Joe did marry during the series run his wife was killed (of course). I used to want to scream at any woman guest who was interested in a Cartwright --or who had a Cartwright interested in her’-- “RUN before you get killed off”!, LOL.

I liked the Waltons; Babylon 5; Star Trek: the Next Generation; Frank’s Place (the only TV program known to have ever captured an authentic New Orleans accent) (and no, K’ville on Fox does not do it); Frasier; Robin, the Hooded Man (a BBC import); Fawlty Towers (another BBC import); To the Manor Born (yet another BBC import).

maria rose, did you ever watch 7th Heaven? a great series about a protestant minister & his wife raising 7 children (twins were born in a later season to make it a 7 child family).

But yes, you are so right about the families in shows these days…there aren’t too many shows where the parents are still married or both parents are alive and married to each other.

Anyone remeber the Wonder Years?
aw…yes! I do! What a great show that was–my husband and I loved watching that one together. (we don’t always have the same tastes in shows, movies, etc)

I grew up in NJ–anyone remember a show called Creature Feature? It was a campy like horror show…somewhat like Tales of the Crypt, but back in the late 70’s. I was a little kid then, and would hide under a blanket the whole show–but I still watched it through the little holes of the blanket.😃 Anyone know what I’m referring to?

I miss shows like The fresh prince of bel-air and Home Improvment. Comadys like that are funny with out being dirty. I also miss Walker Texas Ranger. Ill watch reruns but Ive seen most all of them alot

Fresh Prince is still on–reruns…can’t believe how far Will Smith has come in his career, right?

Yes, I have. thanks for reminding me. A great show. Alas there are too few nowadays.

Anyone remember “Dream On” It was about a guy who loved old shows and solved all his problems thinking back to old show plots. Very funny at times.

I absolutely loved “Are You Afraid of the Dark” (the first seasons in the 90’s, not the new seasons in the early 2000’s) I’ve been searching for them on dvd EVERYWHERE! Does anyone remember watching a cartoon called Bobby’s World? It had Howie MAndel voicing the little Bobby guy. very cute.

I do remember a show called…Felicity!😃 Wasn’t that the show? I liked it a lot, but it was cut too soon.

Oh …and Melrose Place and 90210…those were like the precursors to the Desperate Housewives of today…yikes, DH makes Melrose look tame.:o

Yes–good for her indeed!🙂

Re: the dolls…ha! Yes, both dolls had a binocular type left eye, that when you looked through them, you could see reeeeaaaaalllly far. It was sooooo cool! 😃 😃 😃
Hi, whatevergirl, I didn’t mean to not respond to you. I went off line, though, & haven’t checked back lately. I do like this thread & the memories it’s bringing back. I am cracking up about the dolls having bionic eyes that you looked through, I so would have loved that.

Someone mentioned Emergency 51. I LOVED that show! I really wanted to be a paramedic for a while. My friends & I made badges & went around the neighborhood looking for safety violations & things to rescue- not too much action, though, so we’d need to invent new games.

I did like the show Felicity (about the college students in NYC, right?). I thought it was really well acted. I felt guilty watching it sometimes, though because I thought it was a little risque for the target audience of teens, there was the wierd roommate who was a witch, etc… It did show consequences of actions, but I thought it promoted casual sex too much. The characters were good, though, so it was easy for me to get addicted. I could remember my college days, yet also view it with a mom’s perspective.

Did anyone see the show a few years ago on ABC? It might have been Once & Again, or something like that. It was about 2 divorced people trying to make a romance work with their kids. It was interesting.

Yeah, I do remember feeling ‘weird’ about Felicity’s risky scenes. Not sure why they went there…I remember Once and Again-vaguely. That was a short lived show, wasn’t it? Speaking of old shows…I just remembered Thirty Something, I was in my late teens when that show came out, and didn’t appreciate it or understand it. Now, I think I just might.😉
