Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

Sure, that is why I am encouraging EVERY ONE to read the 13 letters of Paul in context. Then read the writings of the Apostle John. Then read Peter and James…
There are two different types of faith with two different destinies. There is saving faith (post 2) and dead faith (James 2). One faith is a gift of God and the other faith is self-generated in the flesh.
But the Apostle said EVERY ONE who believes in Him is saved?

When he [the fleshy man] asked what he [the fleshy man] must do to be saved, he was told to Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.

The man was told what to do, what he must do, not God. His faith was of the fleshy variety which you say is in James 2. His faith had to be faith which was self-generated because it was something he was told to do, but that faith saved him.

Makes one wonder why we even have the Gospels, or why the Church didn’t order the Bible according to Reformed’s theology.

So everyone who recieves this gift [of Faith] is saved?
If it perseveres to the end; if it doesn’t one isn’t.

So the gift-from-God Faith, of reformeds theology, always saves.
But the gift-from-God Faith, of sanduskys theology, may not save you.

*But this Faith was something the man was told to do. [Gift from God?]

That’s why.
???

The D-R of course has a larger Old Testament than most modern Protestant versions, but the verse arrangement in the NT should be the same.

I just looked up the KJV and NIV of Acts 13:39 online, and it does indeed include what Thing mentioned.
Acts 13:39 (King James Version)
39And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.
Acts 13:39 (New International Version)

39Through him everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses.

The Catholic Church does not teach salvation by works.

It teaches damnation by works, in that we can refuse the grace of God and thereby condemn ourselves to Hell.

On the salvation side, though, everything comes by the grace of God through faith. Just like you, we believe that any good works we may perform after that point are a matter of God working through us to sanctify us, not us working our way to God. To the extent that God rewards our works, he chooses to “count as righteousness” His own work in us, just as he counts our faith as righteousness on our account.

No one in Catholic or Protestant thinking can actually earn Heaven as a right by doing enough stuff, though.

Our difference with Calvinists seems to be primarily that we refuse to make it God’s choice that certain people are damned. He desires all men to be saved and grants them grace accordingly; those who ultimately go to Hell are there by their own doing, not His. It is theoretically possible (though highly unlikely in practice) that every single human being ever born could go to Heaven, for God is certainly that powerful and that willing to save us. That some go to Hell is their own fault, not the choice of God.
