sleeping attire

So anything we find sensual, that feels good, is a sin?

Should we dress in sackcloth and scratchy wool?
Hard, uncomfortable mattresses, or maybe on the floor?
Cold showers and never long hot baths?
Never enjoy that first bite of Tiramisu, so sweet and bitter at the same time, that makes you close your eyes in ecstasy?

I could go on and on, but you get the idea.
I like the feel of the sheets on bare skin, and so buy the high count cotton for this very reason. Haven’t tried satin, but it’s a possibility. I like cuddling with DH skin to skin, I feel much more close to him this way.

The human body is not dirty nor shameful. God made it, after all.
Enjoying it, the way it moves, the way fabrics and air feel on it, is not a sin, and nothing to be ashamed of.

I do believe that people go around looking for sin and ‘thou shalt nots’ where there are none.

Which of the saints does anyone suppose might have slept naked? If it feels good to sleep naked, does wearing comfortable pajamas not feel good? Suppose someone was a hermit and lived in the wilderness far from any other people, where no one ever visited. The person’s life was doing a few chores to stay fed and a life of prayer. Would that person walk around nude all day? Would that person go to prayer in the buff? I like being alone in a dark room that is totally silent. I sense God is there, or my awareness is increased. Maybe that is my imagination. I like to pray in that situation. Sometimes it is in bed under covers. I wear pajamas, because they make me spiritually comfortable. I can pray in the shower, but that is different. I pray better dressed and imagine most people do also, although I have never taken a poll. The saints slept on boards, not perfumed, powdered, naked in silk sheets. If you want to be like them, or numbered among them, imitate them in as many ways as possible.
So you’re saying we should all sleep on boards? They probably wore sackcloth while doing so, too. Shouldn’t you then forgo your comfy pajamas?

But really, what does how the saints lived have to do with the personal preference of a person for their sleeping attire?

I think you’re one of many who don clean underwear each day in fear of the hospital visit that has, fortunately, never materialized.

But then there’s my brother who was hit by a car while running for the bus first thing in the morning. Although he’d heeded my mom and worn clean skivvies, after the impact nobody could tell. 😃
:rotfl: My thoughts exactly! We worry about such silly things.

Do we really think that God and the Angels can’t see through our clothes to our nakedness? Is God really concerned about our outward appearance or circumstance when we pray? I believe it’s the heart that’s he’s focused on.

We seem to be falsely imagining that this discomfort of the human body and all it’s functions is heaven’s obsession and not our own. 🤷

Didn’t God create Adam and Eve naked? Didn’t they run around naked until after eating the apple and realizing they were naked?

So, you have scriptural backing for nakedness. If you are alone and sleep naked, what difference does it make?

I can’t believe I’m even reading this, much less posting.

What does sleeping in the buff have to do with faith or salvation?

Isn’t there something more important to focus our spiritual energy on?

You can’t believe you’re posting, but because you did… 😉

…Adam and Eve had no problems with nakedness before the fruit. But afterwards they gave us original sin. Hrmmm… kinda says it all. We’re damaged goods.

What would be the point of sleeping naked? I can see no point in it at all. And no, I don’t think it appropriate. It is immodest as well as undignified. Out of respect for God, one should be properly clothed at all times.
How can a naked form be immodest? it was created by God. Pope John Paul 2 once wrote that nudity is not sinful, only the misuse of it.

On a HOT night when the AC is broken…sleeping naked is mighty good.

There are those for whom this is offensive and for them, they need to wear what they feel appropriate to bed for whatever reason they deem appropriate. If it is related to a disordered attitude towards their own body, they should work to correct the disorder. If it is related to just either their modicum of modesty or wanting to be extra warm, go for it.

But at risk of giving too much information, when my wife and children are gone, I usually lay on the couch in my boxers eating ice cream or potato chips watching three sporting events at a time. After gourging myself and probably inspired by the sports I watched, I go down in my boxers and run on the treadmill. When I’m done, I go take a shower, walk naked to my bed and go to sleep.

If my wife and daughters knew what I did in their absence, they’d think it gross. For their sensibilities it is. For me, it is just an evening of me being the simple guy I am. After writing this, I am kinda looking forward to their next trip to see my daughter at college. 😃
Well, I must say that, every time i see one of your posts from now on, I will view it in an ENTIRELY new light!

This is perfectly normal and natural, of course. I, however, subscribe to the “what if there is a fire, tornado, heart attack” school of thought.

I think that many posters need a nice, relaxing warm bath…🙂

Personally I do not care what a person wears to bed. I am single and I have my own sleeping attire which can change with the season.

I will add that the sleeping attire married couples chooses should be a bit different. After all, it has been shown that there is no better form of birth control than the flannel nightgown worn by a wife to bed.

Oversize t-shirt and boxer shorts. They aren’t sexy, but I’m single and I like my comforts.🙂

If it feels good to sleep naked, does wearing comfortable pajamas not feel good?
What is the difference between sleeping in a flannel nightgown and being naked between flannel sheets? Seems to feel the same.
What is the difference between sleeping in a cotton nightgown and sleeping between cotton sheets? Seems the same to me.

But I agree with all the previous posters who said that if it’s a temptation to sin against the flesh, don’t do it.

I prefer wearing stuff to bed, but when it’s 100 degrees in the dead heat of summer with no A/C, there is no alternative. I’m sure the Saints would have agreed. Saints are human after all. They are humans with extraordinary graces that amount to heroic virtue. Being in bed clothed or not clothed doesn’t seem to be the problem. It’s what one does while in bed that would separate the average from the heroic.

For a more traditional answer though, I have heard that one should tuck their children into bed tightly with their arms out of the covers.

Sorta reminds me of my Grannie who always told me obside of the obivious reasons to make sure that I always have clean underwear on…“for heavens sake you could be in a car accident and whats the hospital staff to think of ya when you got dirty skibbies on!”
That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking since I saw this thread.
My grandma told me the same thing.

Bingo. You hit the nail on the head there…
I can’t believe I’m even reading this, much less posting.
Don’t feel bad. I think all of us on this thread have thought that, to some degree…

Threads like this are why people think we’re nuts. Sigh.

Neither my cats nor my guardian angel cares about my sleep attire, or lack of same. Both have more important considerations when judging my worth.

A bubble bath is sensual, too. Would you consider that wrong?
Oh, I don’t know about that…you have to disrobe to clean yourself, not necessary to sleep, however…why don’t you just sleep in the bath tub? That way you can kill two birds with one stone!

Dh does that all the time, sleep in the tub.
Works pretty good til the water goes cold!
