Interesting observations, Cran. I have been seeing some people reporting a new wave of Jesuits is coming up through the ranks - old school in thinking and practice.

How’s the mood in Deutschland today? Even with ten men they should have won that game.

that is one of the most offensive things i have heard this month, you sir (if you actually believe this) are totally ignorant of the ENTIRE issue.

www.sspx.org
i wouldn’t go to the SSPX website for their version of the truth
i’ll go to the Vatican website and read what OUR position is
if you side with the SSPX then you risk joining them apart from the Church
for me, i’ll always side with the Church

You citing relevant sources? Wonders never cease. I’ll be happy to see it finally happen.

Until then, this is a thread about Jesuits, not SSPX. Do you have anything valuable to offer to this discussion?

Therefore the SSPX were excommunicated.

“Pick you battles” Sun Tzu
No. The rest of the SSPX excommunicated themselves when they reelected a Superior General who was himself already excommunicated.

As to the Jesuits…

At the moment, the Jesuits are, as a community of religious, officially in good standing.

They were, for a while, suppressed. They were, for a while, noted for numerous abuses. “Damned Jebbies” was, in the mid 19th century, pretty much an accurate assessment of the status of the Jesuits outside of Poland and the Ukraine…

They since straightened out, the suppression being lifted in the late 19th C… but again, in the mid 20th, started being notable for those members whose theology, ecclesiology, and liturgistics have faltered.

Many Jesuit-run institutions have been noted for no longer teaching the Catholic Truths, and there are a few who clamor publicly for yet another suppression of the Jesuits.

THAT, was one of the most disturbing articles I’ve ever read!
Very, very disgusting.

Here is what is going on in our local Jesuit schools.
Information
Rainbow Alliance is an inclusive group on campus that provides integral support and advocacy for LGBTQIA students at SLU! We play an active role both on campus and off and take part in and host a number of events that create awareness about the issues the LGBT community faces. And we have fun!

When you put these two statements together, what do you get?

funny that you really keep attacking me but cannot attack what i say. is that all you have? try to ad hom me? i don’t think you’re interested in a healthy debate for the truth, but you just want to win an internet debate at all costs.

This may be what the Eskimos believe but it would be news to the Pope.

Ok, they excommunicated themselves. Happy? Therefore they were excommunicated for a time.

**This thread is supposed to be about the Jesuits. ** How about starting a new thread and explain why the Vatican chose not to approve Archbishop Levebre’s request to ordain four bishops?
Absolutely. Who said something about choosing between the SSPX & the Jesuits? Right at this moment, I choose neither, though I hope that our relationship with the sspx improves & the Jesuits realize that if they continue to go the way they’re going, they are finished.😦

If you Google “gay jesuit” you’ll get an idea of the root cause of the order’s problems.

Hardly; it’s from the CIC… canon law…
Lots of lay canon lawyers on this board but, sorry to say, the Church, the Pope, and the Curia consider no member of the SSPX clergy or laity to be excommunicated.

There ARE a lot of armchair Canon Lawyers are here (not saying Aramis is one of them though). Maybe they’re in cahoots with the Piety Police!

Oh, and the SSPX just can’t legitimately exercise any ministry in the Church. No big deal or anything, right?

But Cardinal Mahony, Reverend Pfleger, and the Jesuit parish in New York participating in the gay pride parade are legitimately exercising ministries?

Never said they were, now did I? I was merely pointing what the official stance of Rome at this time as it pertains to the SSPX.

The Jesuits are as Catholic, and in as good “standing,” as the Dominicans, the Carmelites, the Franciscans, or anyone else. Zero to worry about on that front.
Jesuit Universities are in trouble regarding teachings of the Church.
Jesuit High School in DC just had Sr. Carol Keehan (pro-abortion Nun) speak at High School graduation.
New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan, wrote Father Joe Costantino, SJ, (SJ means JESUIT), the Pastor of St. Francis, to say he would not like to see any group participate in the GAY Pride March under the parish banner. They intend to do so anyway.
St. Francis Xavier is the same Jesuit parish that last month hosted the dissenting, pro-abortion, Catholic Kerry Kennedy. The parish bulletin, available online, list among its scheduled activities meetings for Gay Catholics, Lesbian Catholics and a Zen Meditiation.

The Jesuits are in big trouble, and need to clean their own house. The Founder must be turning over in his grave. Jesuits are a Catholic order of Priests, but I would no longer pay tuition to go to their Schools.

Yes, it is a big deal Mel, but it will be resolved soon.
“Soon” doesn’t change “right now”, sadly.

Hopefully they can be brought back to the fold at some point. I’m not holding my breath though, as it’s possible there may be some extremists on both sides who are holding things up.

As for the Jesuits, they have some odd people in there (like any order). But as someone mentioned before the new crop seems promising.

Personally, I don’t think this discussion about the SSPX isn’t helping. Both sides are repeating opinions and arguments that have been discussed to death in other topics. If it doesn’t add to the discussion, won’t convince anybody and will lift nobody up, why post?

And additionally, i think it is wrong to judge a worldwide community by bad experiences with two, three or even four local communities/colleges. I have read so many bad things about really outrageous happenings within the church in the USA that would be (nearly) unthinkable here, so many things that are mentioned here would tel us more about the state of Christianity in a country than about an order.
And I could remeber some religious of different orders that were teaching open heresy, but I do know that they do not stand for all of them.

What does SSPX (Society of Saint Pius X) founded by Marcel Lefebvre, have to do with an OP about Jesuits ? NOTHING.

Why do SSPX posters keep messing up other people’s OPs with SSPX stuff ?

Unless and until SSPX conforms to Rome (Pope), and teachings of Catholic Church as defined in the CCC 2nd Edition - they are NOT part of our Catholic Church.

It is my understanding that “talks” are going on with SSPX, as well as with some Protestant Faiths.
