Wrong! Jesus made it VERY clear who he is was…If he did not, then why would the Jewish leadership have such an issue with him? Why? Because of who HE claimed to be.
Are you sure of this? Jesus even silenced demons from revealing who he was…Mark 1:34. Then with Peter he stated the happy are because the Father has revealed this to you.

Ah no! You need to read past verses 25-27. In reponse to a question from a Jewish legal expert about inherting internal life, Jesus illustrates the superiority of love over legalism through the story of the good Samaritan.
Yes, but what did he ask Jesus?

The Bible is meant to be read as a whole.

What do you think it means to love God?

Read in John 14:15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments."

Then again in John 14:23 Jesus answered him, “Those who love me will keep my word, and my Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24 Whoever does not love me does not keep my words; and the word that you hear is not mine, but is from the Father who sent me."

Then again here:

Jesus the True Vine

John 15:1 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinegrower. 2 He removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit he prunes to make it bear more fruit. 3 You have already been cleansed by the word that I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. 6 Whoever does not abide in me is thrown away like a branch and withers; such branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. 7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples. 9 As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. 10** If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.** 11 I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete.

12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command you. 15 I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father. 16 You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name. 17 I am giving you these commands so that you may love one another.

Now we have a much better picture of what it means to love God.

Doesn’t it makes a difference when reading through the big picture?
Beautiful, I see how important his commandments are…If that is the case how can sola scriptura even have been created. The bible holds his commandments…thanks for helping me see how important the bible is…

I am not following you. Are you stating Jesus **never once **revealed He is God?

This is not what the king of the congregation (Jesus) stated, in Mark 7:13, how tradition makes the word of God void. The example was about the Love and respect we show for our parents, but the principle is that nothing oversteps the word of GOD not even tradition.
You are mistaken here, Life4ever.

Sacred Tradition IS the Word of God.

Becarefull with this one statement, that you do not sin against the Spirit of God…The Hebrew Scriptures, which Jesus quoted from was definitely inspired of God. How would Moses know about how the earth was created? God inspired men to remember and record events, not the Church. So the only credit that should be given is that you put a cover, outline, etc. Do you truly believe they are inspired or holy if you believe they were not sacred until the church stated. Jesus and his disciples called the Hebrew scriptures the holy scrolls.

Me, too! 🍿

Amen! And the only reason you know what the Bible is because God gave it to the Church.

I am more than happy to help.

You know a guy named Jerome, at about the 4th century, said that ignorance of Scriptures is ignorance of Christ.

As such in Catholicism we read the Bible on every Mass. From ALL of the Bible, Old Testament, Psalms, New Testament Letter, Gospel. It is a beautiful thing!

While you can breathe and survive with only one lung, it is so much better when you can use the 2 that God gave you (Sacred Scriptures and Sacred Tradition).

I hope a certain recent arrival in this thread (who shall remain nameless) has not descended into bible idolatry. The lack of Christ in the Holy Eucharist - even the denial of the Holy Eucharist - has made it necessary within many bible communities to substitute Christ’s true presence with the bible - seemingly the only concept of the physical presence of Christ for many.

We were not baptized in bible. At Confirmation, the Bishop did not lay hands on us and impose the bible. Bible does not save us. Bible does not forgive our sins. Bible does not sit at the right hand of the Father. Bible is not our one Mediator before the throne of God. When I was dying, I was not anointed with bible. Only Christ via His Holy Spirit does all of this and much more. I wish our bible brothers would/could focus more on the true presence of Christ, but they can’t - they have only the presence of the bible. And, before anyone goes apoplectic, I absolutely love scripture, read daily, own various translations - but the bible is not Christ.

Christ did not leave us paper and ink. He left us His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity in the Holy Eucharist. Blessed are those who have both.

What is of critical import here, GB, is that when Protestants are “disobedient” to their pastor’s teaching, they are simply following their paradigm. They can tell their pastor, “I read the Bible myself and I came to a different interpretation than you did!” and the pastor must respond, “Good for you! That’s exactly the model we espouse!”

However, when a Catholic says this to the Magisterium, the Magisterium says, “Sorry, son. You need to re-evaluate your position until you come to the Truth.”

Disobedient Protestants are being good Protestants.
Disobedient Catholics are being bad Catholics.

[SIGN1]Huge difference. [/SIGN1]
Badda-bing, badda-boom! 👍

You would not be admitted. You have the right of “private judgment” inasnuch as those things are between your conscience and God. That doesn’t mean your judgment can disagree with what the congregation believes.
So, once again GB, my right to private judgment will be trumped by the congregation even though I searched the Scriptures, correct?

This really sounds like you believe in an infallible, earthly society set up by God to interpret Scriptures.

Sound pretty Catholic to me.

This is an important question.

As far as Sola Scriptura goes, there seems to be a multitude of definitions of it running around.

As the Bible doesn’t really define what it is, the SS defs are all man-made interpretations, subject to the fallible definer’s interpretations, no?
Well, GB?

What really bothers me about this forum is the lack of scriptures and understanding used to explain why you believe what you believe, and the blatant disrespect for other thoughts that you have no answer for. Due to the lack of understanding and the inability to be corrected you oppressively shut down honest hearted accounts. I posed a very serious question, and you deleted my account. I will look for a real website that compares truth and the history of the organizations/what you claim to be a church that was established 200 to 300 years after the last disciple died (Peter was never in Rome, Paul wrote the letter to the Romans) to determine where I am going to go. Just like history Catholics have manipulated politics you control the blog and dispirit free honest hearted thought. So delete this as well!!!

So, is the protestant canon still open? Was Luther then a pre-Trent council of one? This seems like it would be very confusing to someone who simply wants to know what is revealed and what is not.
" . . . pre-Trent council of one?" :rotfl:

Going by his (Luther’s) own words, it appears that he thought himself to be the last word on such things.

The problem with an appeal to Acts 15, po, is that it ignores the fact that the abrogation of the Mosaic Covenant was made manifest to the church in this period by divine revelation. That is something that is not present in post-apostolic Christianity, as even your own church body admits. There is no new revelation. The church fathers, the councils, etc., cannot theologically be compared to the council of Acts 15. as none of them received revelation.
Woe Nelly GB.

All Ecumenical Councils have their prototype in the “Council of Jerusalem”. There can be no doubt that under Peter’s leadership the apostles as a group gave their advice in important matters that concerned the Church as a whole. It was the “Apostle’s Council” that gave judgment on the all important question arising from the admission of Gentiles in to the Church. This was a turning point in the life of the Church. Like the human body the Church grows and gains strength; she, also, had her teething troubles and for the overcoming of these the Councils were without parallel.
