Some Catholic bloggers are calling out other Catholics on their actions (or should I say faith)

From the article:

Pressure is on to change the Roman Catholic Church in America, but it’s not coming from the usual liberal suspects. A new breed of theological conservatives has taken to blogs and YouTube to say the church isn’t Catholic enough.

This reflects the usual cluelessness of the mainstream media about the Catholic Church. There is no pressure to change Roman Catholic Church in America-the pressure is to keep dissident Catholics from changing the Church to reflect their political views. Although it must be done with charity Catholics who misrepresent church teaching are putting more than just their souls at risk. They must be confronted so that other Catholics are not misled into believing that as long as your conscience tells you okay to ignore the Church and other such heresies put forth by those who cannot reconcile their politics with the teachings of the Church.

I have now entered the blogosphere myself, launching my blog on October 15, 2010. Fr. Z presents a pretty good take on the situation.

From my perspective, it’s not so much that the sheep are attacking the shepherds. It’s more along the lines of the sheep wanting greater accountability from the shepherds.

Here is a link to my blog:

benedictgal-lexorandilexcredendi.blogspot.com/

The reason why I began my blog is that there is a dearth of formation in my diocese for the faithful. My purpose is to help the faithful in my area (and anyone else who reads my blog) get a better understanding about the Church through authoritative sources. While my blog is not of the calibre of Fr. Z nor the Hermeneutic of Continuity, I think that it will find its niche.

After all, in the homily that he preached in Glasgow, Scotland, the Holy Father challenged the faithful to do their part in the new evangelization.

Never heard of him, know nothing of his credentials, just another blogger to me.
Don’t be afraid to learn about new people. 😉 Carl Olson wrote such useful books as The DaVinci Hoax and Will Catholics Be Left Behind?. And that “random blog” is the official blog for Ignatius Press. Maybe you’ve heard of it? 😛

In any case, perhaps this is the article you are looking for:

wdtprs.com/blog/2010/10/apnews-catholic-bloggers-aim-to-purge-dissenters/

That’s Fr. Z’s post on it. He doesn’t give too much in the way of commentary, but, as always, what he chooses to bold says a lot. 🙂

Really, well you should do some basic Good, not that difficult, and has written some good books. One of my favorite was “Will Catholics be left behind”. Wrote during the craze of the left behind series. Not really just another blogger uh? Fr. Z not really just another blogger, and oh Fr. Robert Barron really great guy!
I was listing to ETWN on Sirius radio a couple of days ago. Mother Angelica was talking about her decision to wear the habit and that it makes some people angry. She said “As a Christian you should be making some people angry! If you are not making people angry, I question your Christianity!”

Liza, do I see a Vortex episode on this article in the near future? 😃

You never know what will come from the mind of the Vortex!! 😉 But you can always be sure it will be good, and it will be solidly Catholic.

i think anybody who reads the posts here regularly can see there is definatly a new wave of catholic conservatives speaking out in numbers
Sure there are a lot of conservatives posting here, as they always have, but conservative and liberal are political terms, not theological ones. What we should aim for is to be orthodox, as opposed to heterodox, Catholics.

“We’re just shining a spotlight on people who are Catholics”
Is there anything in canon law that says a Grand Inquisitor can not be self-appointed or a lay person? Maybe I am just reading too much into this and Voris has the charism of luminosity.

In case anyone is interested in reading some other perspectives (or if you just want to check to see if your blood pressure medication is really working ;)), here are some other responses:
I normally wouldn’t lump Deacon Greg in with America and Commonweal, but I didn’t feel like creating separate posts.

I’m not sure why I keep posting links to other blogs about this story. I guess since the story is about Catholic bloggers and since I keep coming across links to the OP’s article in a variety of Catholic blogs, the completist in me wants this thread to be a good go-to place on the topic. :o

it’s great to see catholics standing up for the faith. it’s according to the article that it’s driven by the single issue of abortion that doesn’t ring true. all depends on the way you ask a question. cmatt25 do you think hell is a catholic free zone.

What I think is I’ll take my cue from our Lord and not judge who might be in hell.

But regarding abortion, from pg 3 of the article, “Critics of the bloggers contend the activists are motivated mostly by politics, not theology. The blogs feature nearly as many attacks on President Barack Obama as church leaders… However, the conservative Catholic activists insist their faith, especially church teaching on abortion, inspires all their work.”

I’m glad though it was you who brought up “here” and how we relate to the article and not me. I was thinking I might have received points or been suspended for discussing CA members. But I brought the matter up recently on another thread in the news forum when I asked if the 2 major parties’ were the reverse on the abortion issue but the same on all other issues, how would conservatives here vote. And the overwhelming response was they would vote Democratic. I’d have to go back to check for sure but I think it might have even been unanamous.

So it does appear to me abortion is the one driving.

Nevertheless God bless you on your faith walk and peace to you always.

Amen!

I’m just glad he knew enough of the teaching to still call them Catholics. 👍

Maybe you are being insulting as well. Where in the world did you ever get the idea that anyone mentioned in that article is considering themselves to be a “Grand Inquisitor”???

Please point out - specially with examples - who is doing this. You are doing a very good job of judging that someone is doing this, so please do tell us all who you think that might be.

Never heard of him, know nothing of his credentials, just another blogger to me.
He’s written a couple of good books (one about the Left Behind series, and the other about the DaVinci Code) and is an excellent orthodox Catholic speaker. I had him speak at our parish last year and he helped me with a talk I did on subsiarity and the Constitution. Based on what I’ve read of your posts, you would like him. 👍

are you basing your theory on a study you have done on the site or what the article on the blog says. or the critics impartial?

just because the site is based in america does not mean it is just americans on it. like this site. so what i’m saying is american politics in a world wide catholic perspective means nothing. many threads you find here about american politics or just totaly ignored by the likes of me. so it’s not a true reflection of the site’s view.

the first about hell is in relation to a few times in different threads you have stated about conservative catholics not regarding liberal catholics as catholics. i was mearly pionting out it matters none what anyone else regards you as, or indeed what you regard yourself as but how GOD sees us.
GOD bless

As one of the posters that answered your question, I would point out that you are a little to narrow in your search for a driving force behind the bloggers. Indeed, abortion is the biggest political issue, along with other non-negotiables, the bloggers are concerned with liturgy, as well. As Pope Benedict XVI and our Bishops continue to rid the Church of some of the “spirit of Vatican II” nonsense, the bloggers are there for support. 👍

Liza, I was asked if I thought hell was a Catholic free zone. And I merely responded with I don’t judge who is in hell. I have been told previously I face hell if I didn’t repent missing Mass on a weekday Nov 1 because in my diocese the bishop declares it an obligation while in other dioceses in the universal Church it is not. And I’ve had discussions regarding Church statements in CCC 846 and Lumen Gentium about “could not be saved”.

I understand “facing hell” might not equate to judging one to hell however. And still not sure if “could not” equates to “can not” or not. But if you took my words of not judging who is in hell as to imply someone else is doing this, you mistook my words for something they were not meant to be. I understand it happens however on internet forums. I was merely answering the question presented to me as to whether I thought hell was free of Catholics by answering with I am not going to judge who is in hell. I hope this helps. God bless you and peace.

Well I was only quoting the article and stating what I found here. But thanks. We Americans need reminded now and then the world does not revolve around us. 🙂 And you are correct only God knows the hearts of us liberals. God bless you too. And peace.

I agree. (Wait, did I just agree with Rich?!?)

Actually, I have noticed that IMHO the Catholic Church has members who cross the widest political spectrum vs other denominations or faiths.
