I agree.

I think those adults who dress up as storm troopers or jedis could be just as serious a Catholic as the next person.
LOL I actually know people who do that, and are very charitable! They participate in fun runs and events for sick children. AND some of those do the same with Harry Potter - they dress up as characters and participate in charity events.

Is that dangerous? šŸ™‚

I know that 'Harry Potter" led to me to dislike a character. I dislike Ron Weasley from the books. šŸ˜› Whiny little brat. šŸ˜› šŸ™‚

I knew people like that back at boarding school. We’d slice the laces on their ice skates, or set fire to their brooms I mean poison their owls I mean run them up the flagpole.

šŸ˜› Like I have the physique for it. And they immodest clothing leads to lust. It would lead to sin, because men would kill themselves to forget the image of me dressed like Leia.
only the most mountain dew stained fanbois are like that.

If the charity level on this thread does not improve, it will be closed and some members may receive infractions

Not while you were a practicing Catholic, I hope.

I pray you have changed -and turned from these evil ways.

I will lift you tonight at Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament.

God Bless you.

Dawn, I think your sarcasm meter is broken. šŸ™‚
…on HP???

Would you Catholics suppress HP novels if you controlled a hypothetical Government Department of Morals that could deny the right to publish any material deemed witchy?
I hope not. I never would have read Tolkien without having read HP first.
I think Twilight is more of a dangerous series than HP…but hey thats my opinion šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚
Ah, Twilight. Helping children pick a side between the Necrophilia vs. Bestiality debate. šŸ˜‰
No. Just… No.

If that is your answer, than you really cannot read anything, you cannot leave your house, you can only sit in your little corner terrified.

EVERYTHING has a potential to lead to sin. EVERYTHING.
All it takes is a mind that’s already a little mentally unstable, or easily influenced.

You can’t use that as a reason. You really, really, can’t. =/
Very true. Life leads to sin. People are born into this world with original sin. I don’t think I should need to cite anything to argue that God doesn’t want us to sit in corners fearing for our souls in case we have 1 bad fleeting thought for our whole life.
I want to see the new movie.
I just saw it tonight! It was excellent šŸ‘
Besides the one guy who apparently missed the part on the ticket stub that said ā€œPart 1ā€ and yelled out ā€œwhatā€ when the movie predictably ended without really being concluded (which everyone already knew was going to happen. I even knew which part because I looked it up, but it was also one of the parts I thought would be a good movie ending)

Another good series is the Rangers Apprentice, written by a guy who use to make the story up for bed time to his children… Also, Christopher Paolini’s trilogy isn’t bad considering he was a teenager when he started writing them. My love for reading the adventure/fantasy style books began with Mark Twain and Daniel Defoe. A bit of an oddball for a big ol country boy.

Harry Potter introduces the following words such as ā€œAzkabanā€, ā€œCirceā€, ā€œDracoā€, ā€œErisedā€, ā€œHermesā€, and ā€œSlytherinā€;

These are names of real demons. :bigyikes: Maybe this is why the exorcists warn us against Harry Potter?

N.B. I am trying to discern whether it is ok to let my son read it and I am trying to gather the objections Fr.Amorth, Euteuneur, Mendoza and other exorcists seem to blame HP for a new wave of Wicca. I have read some very well argued Christian apologia’s for HP. However when exorcists speak out I tend to listen

Are these names of demons? Why would exorcists even mention Harry Potter? Could it be that they know about the occult and the wiles of the accuser?

Anyway Please discuss

Not correct. If a person has a predisposition to viewing porn, than they should be careful about how they use the internet, but they can still use the internet.

Since we know at least two exorcists and one future Pope have not spoken well of HP, and since we know that the Church teaches very clearly on the subject od divination, etc., it seems prudent to give careful thought to whether or not children should read HP, especially since HP is simply entertainment and is NOT required reading.

We are CATHOLICS and we are supposed to lead the world to Christ!

That means we have a great responsibility in this life, greater than any other group, and we must be very careful how we execute our mission, which means at times we lean more towards caution in matters that might touch about the spiritual lives of our souls and those around us.

We are Catholics, we have been blessed with more spiritual gifts than any other group on earth–we are called to be mature and responsible ande lead people to Christ.

I’d like to see a Catholic with a well-formed conscience refute this.
