I’d like to see a Catholic with a well-formed conscience refute this.
I would like to see his proof that there are in fact the names of demons. Likely they’re from a private revelation, which puts them in the realm of “believe if you want to, or disregard entirely”.
- Draco = used in exorcism rites (specifically to refer to the ancient serpent The Dragon)
As for the others…?
I dunno maybe not. At the end of the post I questioned whether they were demon’s names…I was by no mean sure! Oops how embarassing…
And so, your interjection has done nothing more than muddy the waters even more. C’mon people, don’t throw in conjecture. Just because we’re Catholic doesn’t mean you don’t have to argue logically.
Oddly enough, there’s a movie trope known as “
The Dragon”, which refers to the bad guy’s top enforcer. Draco does sort-of fall into this role in HBP. On the other hand, Rowling likes to use gratuitous amounts of Latin (spells and stuff). Any of these could be an explanation (I seriously doubt that Rowling chose names based on “demons”, if someone can even prove they are demons).
Nope. I am saying that Catholics need to embrace their mission and I honestly do not see a lot of this across this entire forum. I see an awful lot of people trying to win debates and precious few concerned with the salvation of souls and the expansion of the kingdom on earth. I am probably wrong about that, but it is what I perceive here.
You opinion of what you see. Which is based on very little evidence besides the comments of few people. Basically your sample size is negligible, your data set is incomplete, and you’re trying to fit people into a box you already had put them in.
Yes, this includes things like HP, which is simply a form of entertainment, nothing more.
It is simply a form of entertainment and nothing more. I think you just rehashed out point for us.
What I cannot seem to get across to people on the threads is that this is NOT an academic classroom or college.
Why? There’s nothing wrong with academics. In my opinion, if people agued or debated in a more academic way then things would be better. The world would simply discredit young-earthers or flat-earthers or 9/11 truthers or “birthers” they like should be instead of them becoming an embarrassment to debate itself. Politicians could have logical discussions about the best & efficient allocations of money instead of resorting to labelism. The abortion debate could actually happen.
Wait, who am I kidding? It’s pretty clear even from this forum that people would rather stroke their ego :banghead:
HP is either safe for kids to read and watch, or it is not. There is no grey. There are millions of choices one can make for their kids regarding what to read, HP does not HAVE to be on that list and yes parents do have the responsibility to concern themselves about what their kids read and watch (what does in…).
Sure, parents should look out for their kids. But, we need to make sure that they’re using the best information and not freaking out because someone conjectures that x might maybe possibly in not many cases lead to y (the example I’d throw in here would be the crazy parents who don’t vaccinate their children).
I think Protestantism is a living example of that one.
Latest count
Exorcists approving Harry Potter = 0
Exorcists neither for nor against Harry Potter but with warning = 1
Exorcists against Harry Potter = 3
Well, it’s too bad that we Catholics have to have the permission of an Exorcists to read anything. Oh wait, we don’t.
I’ve got a fried who’s taking a class on witchcraft and the occult. She was a bit worried, so she ended up having a chat with the priest here (he’s young and orthodox) just to make sure she’s not doing something stupid, and she’s still taking it.
Screaming about HP books being evil is only going to make them more popular. The worse thing that came out of the HP books, imo, is the author talking about Dumbledore being gay. I was pretty disappointed over that.
I just disregard that. It was an “I’m trying to look like I for equality” PR move. The explanation that Dumbledore/Grindenwald were intellectual equals actually fits the books and Dumbledore’s character
better than Rowling’s 11th hour “revelation”
