As for the others…? :o 😛

I dunno maybe not. At the end of the post I questioned whether they were demon’s names…I was by no mean sure! Oops how embarassing…

Nevertheless Fr.Tom Euteneur warns against Harry Potter…that’s at least 3 front-line exorcists…i am sure there are plenty more…
The books I suggested are good first beginning reads regarding attachments that can and do happen due to doors being opened by a person. Both Ralph Sarchi and Malachi Martin (RIP) are or were Exorcists.

These kids playing with Ouija Boards—Both Sarchi and Martin warn of the demons coming through this “game.” It’s a doorway. An invitation.

I got into this stuff when our oldest daughter had friends who were “bored” and wanted to get into Satanic Worship. We passed those books out like candy at Halloween. “Beware the Night” is the hardest to find. I wish they would re-publish it. A few years back, they WERE making a movie from the book, but it never came to fruition. (Sometimes things are lost in the movie vs the book).

I would like to hear what Elaine Warren would have to say about this (I know, she’s really elderly-Ed has died, RIP).

I could see that then happening with a magic wand. Incantations can be found online-on the web.

Yes, our Country is in need of more Exorcists.

God Bless you.

Amorth, Euteneur, Mendoza are in the no camp…Father Jose Antonio Fortea appears to be say they are not bad but adds a cautionary note

MB: What is the meaning of the fascination or obsession among some young people for the series of books by J.K. Rowling about Harry Potter the magician? Are they a danger to children? Can you present your ideas about the origins and effects of the Harry Potter phenomenon?

FORTEA: The books in themselves are not bad. They are merely literary fantasies in the manner of stories that have existed in Europe since the Middle Ages. I am neither in favour of condemning nor prohibiting them. To me, they are just unobjectionable stories. However, children are imitators by nature and tend to imitate what they read and what they see. It is therefore worrisome that reading these books may lead them to attempt the practice of magic or to believe that magic is not as dangerous as their instincts might tell them. It is therefore necessary for parents to warn their children of the dangers of magic.

Thanks Dawn we defo need more exorcists. I know I am over protective of my son…but like you I know how easy it is to slip into new age things …it really can start with just horoscopes and end up much more sinister. Peace

You weren’t sure??? 😛
Only kidding. 🙂

I did my research and although a few of the names lead back to evil gods/goddesses, there is no irrefutable proof they are indeed “demons.” I’m not standing by any speculation. I (once again) have gotten myself caught up in another dead end HP thread, but with clarity I stand with those of us who want to help promote the idea that HP books/movies leap into the grey - Satan’s favorite color. Thank you to those who try to help inform others of the Church’s position on this. You know it’s a lost cause with most people on here, but you still do it anyway and I commend you for that. 🙂

I always am hesitant to denounce anything. It seems like it makes the item more popular. Let’s see, up and coming thing is seen as “not-family-friendly”. So some Christian organization goes around blasting it. All of the sudden, the new thing is all over the news. And it is free publicity!

And there is always a section of the population that will love anything that the “crazy Christian coalition (my best friend’s term)” hates. So that thing becomes even more popular (and the complainers helped it get to that point). Kind of the “enemy of my enemy is my friend” philosophy. And I hate it because all Christians (including Catholics) get painted with the “crazy evangelical brush”. And as the only practicing Catholic in my group of friends (my fiance is the only Christian/Catholic I know), I’m tired of fighting the stereotype.

So my advice to attention seeking people who will complain to the camera that oxygen is evil because murders breathe, STOP. You are making us all look bad. 🙂

This is isn’t addressed to anyone posting here, unless you are head of the “The Whole World is Going to Hell” committee that always finds something to whine about.

Love it or hate, you are talking about it. And making it even more popular. 🙂 (I’m guilty of it as well, but I like Harry Potter).

Just wait till you marry and have kids.

Let’s talk again-then.

The world is waiting for them.

You make a very good point though. I wonder how many people would have even picked The Davinci Code up had it not been for the hype about how anti Christian it was. I read the book and if anything it led me to want to learn more about Christianity, Catholicism in particular.

Screaming about HP books being evil is only going to make them more popular. The worse thing that came out of the HP books, imo, is the author talking about Dumbledore being gay. I was pretty disappointed over that.

I mean there are obviously far graver dangers than Harry Potter. I probably wouldn’t have sat up and taken note if a few prominent exorcists hadn’t spoken out against it but when they did I waded straight in…😃 Oh well Peace to all

What? Now don’t get me wrong there have been many celibates over the years who have had same-sex attraction and become experts in self-mastery and life of the virtues…but wait a minute why would the author feel the need to mention a character’s sexuality???

I keep hearing this is a great morality tale…???🤷

I do sympathise - most of my friends are agnostic left leaning liberals. I love them to pieces…they know I am a practising Catholic. I used to get hurt occasionally but I think we’re all grateful we can have a debate and not shove these things under the carpet like they don;t exist.

In the end though we shouldn’t care too much about their name-calling…just be faithful to God.

I am not head of of the “The Whole World is Going to Hell”…but the Saints do say that hell is er…quite packed

👍

I’d like to see a Catholic with a well-formed conscience refute this.
I would like to see his proof that there are in fact the names of demons. Likely they’re from a private revelation, which puts them in the realm of “believe if you want to, or disregard entirely”.
  1. Draco = used in exorcism rites (specifically to refer to the ancient serpent The Dragon)
As for the others…? :o 😛

And so, your interjection has done nothing more than muddy the waters even more. C’mon people, don’t throw in conjecture. Just because we’re Catholic doesn’t mean you don’t have to argue logically.

Oddly enough, there’s a movie trope known as “The Dragon”, which refers to the bad guy’s top enforcer. Draco does sort-of fall into this role in HBP. On the other hand, Rowling likes to use gratuitous amounts of Latin (spells and stuff). Any of these could be an explanation (I seriously doubt that Rowling chose names based on “demons”, if someone can even prove they are demons).
Nope. I am saying that Catholics need to embrace their mission and I honestly do not see a lot of this across this entire forum. I see an awful lot of people trying to win debates and precious few concerned with the salvation of souls and the expansion of the kingdom on earth. I am probably wrong about that, but it is what I perceive here.
You opinion of what you see. Which is based on very little evidence besides the comments of few people. Basically your sample size is negligible, your data set is incomplete, and you’re trying to fit people into a box you already had put them in.
Yes, this includes things like HP, which is simply a form of entertainment, nothing more.
It is simply a form of entertainment and nothing more. I think you just rehashed out point for us.
What I cannot seem to get across to people on the threads is that this is NOT an academic classroom or college.
Why? There’s nothing wrong with academics. In my opinion, if people agued or debated in a more academic way then things would be better. The world would simply discredit young-earthers or flat-earthers or 9/11 truthers or “birthers” they like should be instead of them becoming an embarrassment to debate itself. Politicians could have logical discussions about the best & efficient allocations of money instead of resorting to labelism. The abortion debate could actually happen.

Wait, who am I kidding? It’s pretty clear even from this forum that people would rather stroke their ego :banghead:
HP is either safe for kids to read and watch, or it is not. There is no grey. There are millions of choices one can make for their kids regarding what to read, HP does not HAVE to be on that list and yes parents do have the responsibility to concern themselves about what their kids read and watch (what does in…).
Sure, parents should look out for their kids. But, we need to make sure that they’re using the best information and not freaking out because someone conjectures that x might maybe possibly in not many cases lead to y (the example I’d throw in here would be the crazy parents who don’t vaccinate their children).

I think Protestantism is a living example of that one.

Well, it’s too bad that we Catholics have to have the permission of an Exorcists to read anything. Oh wait, we don’t.

I’ve got a fried who’s taking a class on witchcraft and the occult. She was a bit worried, so she ended up having a chat with the priest here (he’s young and orthodox) just to make sure she’s not doing something stupid, and she’s still taking it.

I just disregard that. It was an “I’m trying to look like I for equality” PR move. The explanation that Dumbledore/Grindenwald were intellectual equals actually fits the books and Dumbledore’s character better than Rowling’s 11th hour “revelation”

She even talked about who he was in love with. A part of the story I don’t care to read about, I think she did a good job on the first few books and let it go after that. In the first part it makes Harry out as though he’s going to be extremely powerful, even more so than Dumbledore, but as it drags on it seems like he’s just lucky sometimes rather than good.

Sorry if I muddied the waters…Still i got my comeuppance…especially with erised…desire backwards :o 😛

Anyway I did learn something from my vague research…Did you know that we got the phrase draconian…as in “that legislation is so draconian” from theword draco? I don’t know why I found that so interesting…but I did and do :D:p

I

Well, it’s too bad that we Catholics have to have the permission of an Exorcists to read anything. Oh wait, we don’t.

No you are right we don’t…but nevertheless I feel these opinions are very interesting especially Fr.Tom Euteneur…the former HLI president. He really is sound.

I’ve got a fried who’s taking a class on witchcraft and the occult. She was a bit worried, so she ended up having a chat with the priest here (he’s young and orthodox) just to make sure she’s not doing something stupid, and she’s still taking it.

Well obviously if it’s from a sound orthodox catholic perspective that would be fine :)…if its taken by a new age nun or Richard McBrien/Matthew Fox then it would be more

Why’s she taking it? Is she into prayer ministry? Just seems quite unusual

I don’t know if others are with me on this, but I’m here more for the Catholics and Christians crazy about these books, than the non-Catholics or non-Christians. If you’re turned off to religion because we condemn things like the occult, well, I don’t know what to tell you.

I wish I could help my brothers and sisters in Christ see the damage that these books and movies have done to our culture. Lenin - yeah that communist guy - once said, “Give me one generation and I will change the world.” Hasn’t this generation of kids been greatly affected by all this Harry Potter mania, and in a negative way? And we who have to be setting the example for our culture are promoting it? IMHO that says more to those outside of the Church than us “screaming” and ranting about how bad the books/movies are.

Are there kids who read HP and than dabble in the occult? Very likely.

Nuff said.

That’s exactly the same effect The DaVinci Code had on me. In fact, learning more about Catholicism played a part in my returning to the Church.
