Here is a u-tube video done on why Mormons leave the Church, This is from a very active Mormon. It’s worth listening to.

This is honesty folks! It’s a bit long but I have so many comments on it I would like to share. One thing that really stands out is he is making a case that there was no Catholic Apostasy and he does not even know he is doing this. .

This is the conclusion I came to

He knows the Church’s doctrine is corrupted yet he remains because he loves his church, the people in it and the lifestyle.

If he came to know that the Church that Christ established was the true Christian Church I don’t think he would make the leap. As this leap has to be away from his friends and family, his social life on to Jesus. Only with a real relationship with Jesus would anyone take this leap. I see people here in Utah make this leap all the time even though they are afraid of loosing the only world they knew for so many years. The common thread found is a true thirst for Christ. I am always amazed when the LDS do this. Especially the ones who do it for no transaction such as marriage to a Catholic and so forth. They are brave and the ones I know ad so much to our Parish. They tend to get involved and so far stay involved. Understanding that all praise goes to Jesus and not what they do. We had a Mormon baptized 4 years ago who attends our Bible study each Thursday night. He goes to confession more than anyone I know. He even admitted that sometimes he gets the feeling of am I doing this because others can see me? How great I am? He said he gets those feelings. I said welcome to the Catholic Church! We all have this type of sin. Its just good to understand the battle together. Nothing to hide as to our fallen nature.

Watch this video and enjoy it… It’s a rarity and I will be the first to say that this man is far above all the leaders in the LDS Church and they should make him the next president of the LDS church. He is willing to go down into truth and honesty and humility to a point in order to come back up. And I mean that from the bottom of my heart. In all sincerity.

John Dehlin is a good example of the liberal Mormon. Here is some other positive stuff from a whole ward full of liberal Mormons:

Like I say, their faith and culture are in error, but there are some bright spots.

John Dehlin? Oh dear. A “very active” fringe Mormon. Let’s be clear on that point, shall we?

lol…I think I win the money. We had bets on how long it would take you to say that this guy was either not a real Mormon, was not a Mormon at all, or was a bad Mormon.

For you, anyone who ever says anything negative about the LDS Church is one of those.

Is that because you knew he was a fringe Mormon in the first place?

How “good” a Mormon could he be, given what he is saying? Really?

“Mormon honesty” is, of course, par for the course; but how about a little “Catholic honesty” from you?

Pahoran

Just my humble opinion and I don’t wish to cause offence to anyone here at all…

I do wish we didn’t feel it necessary to attack/question other religions. For those of us devoutly members of the Catholic faith would it not be polite to respect other peoples faith in their own religions. These people sincerely believe they are right, just as we do.
It would also be pleasant if other religions didn’t feel it necessary to try to teach us their beliefs.
LDS and all other religion members of this forum are here because they know it is a Catholic site. They can learn about our faith through our forums which is wonderful. They think they are right about their religion and we have our own belief and knowledge that the church is directly descended from Jesus himself.
So I just wonder is it really necessary to be questioning other faiths?
Love thy neighbour, and see Jesus in everyone? We are all of one faith just many branches.
Perhaps members of CAF of other religions will see our example of love and respect for all others and be moved to learn more.
Perhaps we do need to discuss other peoples religions, but they were raised to believe in thier own faith just like we did about our faith. So if we are trying to convert people to the Catholic faith perhaps with love and example rather than knocking others beliefs may be the way forward? It just feels like we are gloating and that doesn’t feel right to me.Humility and love would feel the right way for me.
God bless

I can tell you that when I spoke to him he said that he is very devout and I belive this totally. He is facing and accepting the absolute truth. He is a good man. Like I said he should become the president of your church. Change does not happen by leaving. It happens from the inside out. He has courage and shgould be respected. I am Catholic and he has gained my respect. Not because he says it like it is. Because he has the courage to do so. And I beleive this kind of courage can only come from God. Being truthful is of God. We all know deep down what is right and what is wrong. The question is always what will I loose. Of course it would be good if he studied the Catholic faith but I see him as one who can help bring the Mormon Church in line with Christianity. Would that not be something? To see the steeples turn into crosses?

You think I am crazy?

TBCRAWFORD,
In a perfect world ,your ideas would be awesome…but LDS are all about gaining new members. As I have stated before, I live in a heavily saturated Mormon area, and from grade school through adulthood, they (MORMONS) are constatnly trying to gain new members…it never ends. They are pushy and cunning. You have to understand where they are coming from and their tactics. They do not respect us (Catholics) so we must take the offense.

TB’s ideas reflect Christian thinking for an imperfect world. I’m sorry for your prior LDS experiences

“Very devout” even as he rejects the truth claims of the Church of Jesus Christ.

Does this make sense to you? To someone who has no understanding of LDS thought, it might; but to us, you’ve just contradicted yourself.
He is facing and accepting the absolute truth.
Absolute truth == your opinions. What is it with you people? You are at least the third poster to have made this assumption; although at least you didn’t go as far as one who insisted that someone who agreed with her prejudices was therefore “totally unbiased.”
He is a good man.
I never said he wasn’t. A person doesn’t have to be a good Mormon to be a good man.
Like I said he should become the president of your church.
Based upon what? The sole fact that he rejects the Church’s truth claims?

Would you be happy if I suggested that Father Jordan Vajda O.P. should be elected the next Pope? Solely on the basis of the fact that he is now a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? Would that show goodwill towards the Catholic Church?

Gratefully, Dehlin won’t become the next President of the Church. He is far beneath the leaders of the Church, of whom you know nothing at all. In the real world, being “honest” doesn’t automagically equal agreeing with anti-Mormon nonsense. Or indeed, with any set of opinions at all. In the real world – as opposed to the imaginary world occupied by Mormon-bashers – honest people hold differing views about a wide range of topics, including but not limited to the truth claims of the Church of Jesus Christ.
Change does not happen by leaving. It happens from the inside out. He has courage and shgould be respected. I am Catholic and he has gained my respect. Not because he says it like it is. The one absolutely certain fact among all of this is: the “Mormon Church” is certainly Christian. Please see Offenders for a Word by Peterson and Ricks. You can read it free, online, here.
Would that not be something? To see the steeples turn into crosses?

I know about them. Only in some kind of little two-dimensional all-those-funny-religions-are-the-same world would anyone reason from that to what you are proposing.

If you had a friend named John who got divorced and quit his job as a mechanic to become a plumber, would you therefore think it inevitable that George, who did not get divorced, will quit his job as a banker to join the marines?

“you people”

lolsy.

I believe LDS used that on a Cardinal while he was speaking at BYU.

Must be some kind of compliment.

Jesus said that families would be divided for His sake.

Not sure how understanding I would be, were I in the place of Jesus at the Last Judgment, listening to someone’s excuses for failing to follow the Truth just because it was inconvenient or interfered with someone’s social life. Luckily, Jesus is much more merciful than any of us will ever be.

Hello to you in Oxfordshire! I know your area! My Mother used to have a home in Willersey which is a village nearby in Gloucestershire, and our family hails from the village of Hethe.

In answer to your post I will simply provide you with some salient facts ~
  • The number 1 source of converts for the Mormon Church is poorly-catechized Catholics, at least in the US. This is a matter of great concern. Exposing the problems with other faiths, including the Mormon faith, may help someone avoid a bad choice.
  • While discussion of other faiths may appear to be “questioning” or even “attacking”, we are also called to affirm the Truth. As Catholics, we have an obligation to confront error and promote Truth. This is not “knocking” or “gloating”, it is simply providing a firm testimony of the Truth.

Finally got to listen to the whole thing. Amazing. This guy is the most honest Mormon I have ever met.

nope…because I know YOU. Anyone who disagrees with you is either full of hate, was a bad Mormon, is a bad Mormon, etc.
Thus you dodge the question. So tell us what a good, orthodox Mormon Dehlin is?

We’re waiting…
Maybe very good…honesty is a good thing
Indeed; you should try it sometime.

For instance, you could be honest enough to admit that Dehlin is far from being an orthodox Latter-day Saint.

Can you bring yourself to admit that?

Or would it simply cause you too much pain?
That is all you ever get from me. The problem is, you have been LDS so long, you can’t recognize honesty
What an astonishingly bigoted remark.

Pahoran
