Source: Trump still not grasping the severity of the pandemic

Funny how countries that previously had it under control are now overwhelmed with new cases…

South Korea had 302 deaths total.

We had more deaths just yesterday.

But I think I could write of this one as just a judgement error, except for all those who have mimicked his example out of loyalty to him.
I’m not sure it’s that. I live in a very conservative part of the country where the people are awfully independent-minded. Most people have a mask and will wear them until they know they don’t have to, then they’ll take them off. I would say most of them are not really “mask wearers”. I think it’s just the nature of the people from place to place.

The article lays the blame at the feet of McConnell and Pelosi, which I guess would be true to the extent it’s deficient.
“There are 15 cases soon to be zero“ he stated that at the beginning of the pandemic.
Which is why WHO shouldn’t be trusted and we should continue to absent ourselves from it until it reforms, which is doubtful. And CDC should be scrutinized and criticized for buying into the WHO analysis. Should have done its own investigation.
That is the problem with blind speculation.
I do think the likelihood of reasonably accurate reporting is greater in this country than in most others. But even so, the “asymptomatic” nature of what may be the majority of cases everywhere distorts everything. And then, in a lot of countries is there really accurate determination of causes of death? In some, of course, the governments are unworthy of belief.

You miss the bigger issue, which is regardless of size this virus clearly has to run its course,Quarentine or not,ther3 will still be recurrent spikes. The key is how many deaths and or even hospitalizations are occurring. Those numbers overall are trending down.More testing more positive cases revealed. That’s the facts

I agree with you. I understand the death numbers are declining while the positive numbers are going up. There are all kinds of possibilities in those facts.

What do they expect him to do that he hasn’t already done?

He imposed a travel ban way back in January that helped save lives.

He abided by the Constitution by letting the governors of the states decide how much to shut down and how best to handle the pandemic in their own states. Some of the governors made very poor choices, but Mr. Trump allowed them their due authority.

He supplied ventilators, the two hospital ships, one on each coast, he readied hospitals to take in COVID patients (although Governor Cuomo decided to put them into nursing homes, instead, and significantly raised the death rate).

As for attempting to change the subject, Mr. Trump is already aware of the seriousness of this pandemic. He doesn’t need to be constantly reminded of it. He probably feels those in the meeting were like phonograph needles stuck in a groove, repeating the same things over and over. And, he was probably tired of hearing it.

As for not insisting that everyone wear masks, Mr. Trump believes in personal freedom. He isn’t going to dictate that to anybody. He knows the people are being informed and educated, and he’s letting them decide for themselves.

Continually picking on the president doesn’t bode well for those wishing to remain in office. It makes them look hateful, childish, and not qualified to lead any longer.

But even so, the “asymptomatic” nature of what may be the majority of cases everywhere distorts everything
It distorts somethings, but not everything. Dead is dead, for example. There is no asymptomatic death. It distorts the total fatality rate, for sure. But it is sauce for the goose, as the saying goes. All countries have asymptomatic cases.
I agree with you. I understand the death numbers are declining while the positive numbers are going up. There are all kinds of possibilities in those facts.
I would hope, vaccine or no, we would eventually get to a 99% survival rate of symptomatic cases. One thing Trump has done is allowed less restrictions in investigating treatment avenues. I am not going to get into his obsession with any specific treatment. That is not a failure, as we learn from both successful and unsuccessful treatments.

Prudence is not the same as fear!! This fellow talks up any number of quack cures, and gullible people take the bait - imagine what wearing a mask would do …

Of course they are. But what one considers only prudent subjectively, another might consider fearfulness, subjectively.

The spikes we are seeing now were bound to happen.Originally the idea was to flatten the curve to allow time between spikes. No one ever said it was going away any time soon it will eventually go away either through a natural death or vaccine.
But why aren’t other advanced countries seeing spikes like our spikes? Why are our spikes in the US so much bigger? Could it be that those other countries have done a much better job of handling the pandemic? If the infection rate is relatively low like it is in Europe, it makes sense to open schools. But when it’s much higher as it is in the US, that means that it probably won’t work. Already, some schools that decided to reopen had to close again because infected students turned up on the first day requiring everyone in their class to be quarantined.

Trump did his part early on,
Right. His part is to call everything a hoax.
Once public health officials realized that wearing a mask and social distancing are the most effective ways to stop the spread of the virus, shouldn’t Trump have set an example for the country by always wearing a mask in public and making sure that everyone at his coronavirus briefings and press conferences were social distancing. The German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, was doing these things. Instead, Trump set the opposite example by mocking people who wear masks.

As for not insisting that everyone wear masks, Mr. Trump believes in personal freedom. He isn’t going to dictate that to anybody. He knows the people are being informed and educated, and he’s letting them decide for themselves.
A lot of us don’t think that other people should have the personal freedom to act in a careless and irresponsible way such that it needlessly puts others at risk. We don’t let people exercise their personal freedom and drive as fast and recklessly as they want. People get fined for speeding and in some places, they can be fined for not wearing a mask. I certainly don’t appreciate others putting me at risk so they can have a little personal freedom.

Trump allowed them their due authority.
Problem is that people are free to go from state to state and drag the virus with them. Governors don’t have that much power to stop interstate travel.

There is no proof he was infected at the rally.

You are speculating. @RidgeSprinter

What do you mean the cases are much lower in Europe?

Are you referring to actual cases or deaths?

The United States has done a lot of testing - the more tests = more positive
results.

Europe has been hit extremely hard by covid-19. @Thbolt
