Good verse but we are talking about someone who is catholic already, he is just lukewarm. I don’t know what the teaching in the church is but once a person is confirmed could he still lose his salvation?
Yep.
Night all !

I don’t know. Do you have the Holy Sprit dwelling inside of you? If so, how do you know and what are the signs?
I know that the Catholic Church is the true church founded by Christ on Peter to which Christ guaranteed the protection of the Holy Spirit (not to me or you as individuals, nor to your denomination).

I am, being in a state of grace to the best of my knowledge and in accord with the beliefs and practices of Holy Mother Church to the best of my knowledge of them, also under that protection of the Holy Spirit, and will be as long as I remain so. :angel1:

There is not the remotest such guarantee of what happens to me you or any other denomination in any other situation.

I trust the Holy Spirit guiding the Church to help me interpret Scripture. That is why I know I cannot be mislead.
So you know the Holy Sprit is dwelling inside of YOU, because He is guiding the church to help you interpret scripture?
Do you want to stick with that answer or adjust it?
And I thought you were tired and had to go to bed?

Are you going to stick with Manny’s answer about knowing the Holy Spirit dwells inside of you?
You could say you really don’y know the answer.
I wouldn’t lose respect or anything

Quick answer. I received the Holy Spirit during my baptism and again during my confirmation. The Holy Spirit guides me to God.

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. Likewise, the Church is the PIllar and Bulwark of the Truth. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

I received the Holy Spirit and he dwells within me. He tells me that the Catholic Church is the Church Jesus founded 29-33 yrs ago…so yes… the Holy Spirit have kept me in my Catholic faith.

Night night and God bless.

Here is how you know the Holy Spirit dwells inside you.
There are gifts of the Spirit I think twenty- seven in all. Eph 4:7-16, 1cor12:28,13,14,Rom12:6-8.
When you have these gifts it is a sign that the Holy Spirit is dwelling inside you.
Also The Holy Spirit guides us and convicts us of the things we need to change in order to grow to maturity in our faith.
So if you get a little tugging feeling when you use the Lords name in vain or something like that, that is the Holy Spirits conviction.
When someone receives salvation and earnestly from the heart accepts Christ as their Lord and savior and repents we see a complete turn around of life. The change is visible and undeniable. That is also a sign that the Holy Spirit has taken up residence in that persons heart.
See the Parable of the sower matt13:18-30 for some insight on how different people receive the Gospel.

I received the Holy Spirit in my Baptism, and was given the increase and deepening of His grace in Confirmation. I know that I will always have the Holy Spirit in me as long as I am free from mortal sin. If I do commit mortal sin, all I need to do is receive absolution from a priest in the Sacrament of Penance, and I will have the Holy Spirit dwelling in me again. You said that you were a Catholic. You can have the Holy Spirit again if you return to the Church and confess your sins to a priest.

I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to any person I offended on this site.
As you can see I have a lot of pent up anger for things that I have gone through with the Catholic church.
That is no reason to take it out on innocent good catholic people. You are zealous faithful people and I respect that.
We differ on doctrinal isssues but we should all be of one body. That might be hard because we differ so much.
Again, sorry for any offences.
I also would like to thank many of you for being so patient and reserved. I did notice many of you were restraining from really getting angry at some things I said.God Bless you for that lesson in maturity.

Wow. It took hours just to read this whole thread. Your patience and dedication is commendable. Fellow Catholics, we should consider that, if newb is sincere, s/he is as much concerned for us as we are for him.

Newb, I come from a family with a devout convert mother and active cradle Catholic father. We children all went to Catholic school and attended Mass at least as often as required. My brother was an altar server and we girls were in the choir. I even attended a Catholic (Jesuit) university. You would think this would yield several strong Catholic young adults, right? The sad but true fact is that Catholic catechesis is often sorely lacking and sometimes incorrect. A disturbingly large percentage of ā€œCatholicsā€ do not believe in the"real presence" and do not understand the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception. For the record, my sister is ā€œnon-denominationalā€ having left the Church because of differences with our parents and the local priest-not doctrine. My brother is muslim, having studied it while dating a muslim girl to whom he is now married.

Please consider the way I word this question…
Is it possible for more than one church to be completely correct? In other words, can there be more than one ā€œTRUTHā€?

The verse (2 Timothy 3:17) says I can be complete using scripture alone.
So, here is your argument:

NEWBIE: You need to attend to the context more carefully. Verse 17 says, ā€œthat the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.ā€ If a man is to be complete, he must have available to him all that is necessary for his work. Don’t you agree that this is what Paul is saying?

CATHOLIC: Your logic is sound, but the word translated in verse 17 as ā€œcompleteā€ is artios, a word that can also be translated as ā€œprepared.ā€ Now, you will concede that there is a difference between being prepared and being complete. In light of the next word used in verse 17 (equipped), I would take Paul’s meaning to be that the Scriptures are useful and profitable for equipping the man of God for God’s work, not that they were intended to be sufficient for every purpose.

NEWBIE: Certainly Scripture is not sufficient for every purpose such as biology or astronomy, but it is sufficient for faith and morals. Isn’t this what Paul is speaking about?

CATHOLIC: Yes, that’s probably the scope of his reference. But there is an even more telling reason why we should not pit Scripture against Tradition by appealing to this passage in Timothy. In these pastoral epistles (1 and 2 Timothy and Titus), Paul actually appeals to the notion of Tradition as a necessary and valuable supplement to the Old Testament, which he referred to in 2 Timothy 3:16–17.

NEWBIE: I don’t see anywhere in the pastoral epistles where Paul appeals to Tradition. There isn’t even the slightest suggestion that we should add something to Scripture.

CATHOLIC: No, we shouldn’t add anything to God’s revelation. But again, understand that Tradition (with a big T) is not an addition to the pure word of God. It* is* God’s word handed down in verbal form from generation to generation. Some of this was then put into what we call the Bible today. Doctrinal or Dogmatic Tradition includes both Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition.

Apology accepted.

As to gifts of the Holy Spirit, what does St. Paul teach us in 1st Corinthians 12?

28 And God indeed hath set some in the church; first apostles, secondly prophets, thirdly doctors; after that miracles; then the graces of healing, helps, governments, kinds of tongues, interpretations of speeches. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all doctors? 30 Are all workers of miracles? Have all the grace of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?

31 But be zealous for the better gifts. And I shew unto you yet a more excellent way.

You give the impression that all have all the gifts and that is unscriptural. Is that what you actually meant to imply? Is that what you believe?

Hopefully, by this time you are beginning to see that your anger with the church is not neccessarily the fault of the church but that you have misperceptions and misunderstandings of what is actually taught within her.

This has also no doubt been exacerbated by kinds of preaching and teaching that you have exposed yourself to.
Pax tecum,

Not sure about dwelling in- side, but WAIT FOR IT !!!

1Cor.12
**3 **Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking by the Spirit of God ever says ā€œJesus be cursed!ā€ and no one can say ā€œJesus is Lordā€ except by the Holy Spirit.

I’m just wondering why you put Fatima in this thread title, has it been discussed ? if it has it has surely been out-weighed by other topics.

Hi Eireann - totally off topic here but that pic in your signature totally reminds me of one of my sisters - she played Mary in the school Christmas pageant when she was younger too, maybe that has something to do with it 😃

Halleys is a bible handbook.
What is your question?
šŸ‘‹ Please, sir…And the verse in the** Bible** which says that **Halley’s Bible Handbook ** is inspired would be:confused: ???
Well the Holy Spirit speaks through me.
 Newbie 1234 has just  declared:bigyikes: himself to be the inspired spokeman of the Holy Spirit of God??? Should I  ???

It’s supposed to be a miraculous picture, can’t say much more on the subject, if you want to know more, PM me.

Don’t want newbie getting any ideas. šŸ™‚ anyway your sis must be very beautiful, because this Lady sure is.

But how can your brother correct you? If your fallible interpretation is incorrect, could your brother’s be incorrect as well? Also, who really receives the Holy Spirit? You? A methodist? If the Holy Spirit allows for one to see the truth in scripture, why are we fighting? Sola fide, sola scriptura, or faith and good works? 3 interpretations, one Spirit. ā€œHoly Father, keep them in your name that you have given me, so they may be one just as we are.ā€ (John 17:11) Is Jesus’ prayer going unanswered?
The Bible encourages that we correct each other. I guess we walk by faith and not by sight. Not everything is going to be easy. Anyone who believes in Jesus Christ has the Holy Spirit. I’m being nice here but I cannot believe that you don’t know this.
