Do Episcopalians refer to Holy Communion as a “little cracker” or is that a Trump-ism?
ComplineSanFran would probably be someone better than me to answer that. But I’d be surprised if many or any did. As far as I know, TEC’s official position is Jesus is truly present. When a communicant takes communion, they respond “Amen” to “The Body of Christ, the bread of heaven” and the Blood of Christ, the cup of salvation". They don’t say how the host and wine becomes Christ’s body and wine, only that it is.

‘Little Cracker’???

How about ‘The Body of Christ’? Or some Episcopalians refer to the consecrated bread as the Host.

45 clearly didn’t have a point of reference for this. Didn’t he come out with the comment during the primaries when his people thought it would be a good idea to attend Sunday services in a local church (I think it was Presbyterian). It makes me wonder if he goes up for Communion when he attends an Episcopal church.

Yup.

I wonder, too.

ComplineSanFran, I even wonder how many Presbyterians would respond like Trump. The ones I’ve known seem to take their memorial service of the Last Supper reverently. But I’m pretty certain both Episcopalians and Presbyterians bring God into the forgiveness picture. Anyway, yes according to this report, he received Communion at an Episcopal church on Easter.

Sy, I know many, many Presbyterians, and not one has ever called the bread used for Communion a ‘little cracker.’

There are often visitors to churches who don’t have an understanding of the Sacrament of Communion and of course they wonder what the bread/wafer and wine/juice is all about, but one would think that the blessings over it - text from the Gospel - kind of explains the action being made. But oh well. My parish offers open communion so I tend to assume that there is grace offered to all who partake.

And if 45 received communion this morning at St John’s, then grace has been bestowed.

I don’t think it behooves Catholics to try to peer into another person’s soul. :nope:
no bueno.
Thank you Clare. If this is another attempt to rehash the Trump marriage and how
Catholic Melania is and how Christian President Trump is, Iam not taking the bait.

These uncharitable threads were closed before when we had moderators and this
appears another attempt to resurrect another way to bash the President and his
wife about how they practice their faith.

Frankly, I am happy to hear they were in church and more than likely were praying for
the victims of Hurricane Harvey who they visited last week.

Given what I said above, it’s not an Episcopal term.
This is clearly another thread GKC to bash the Trumps. My fears are without moderators now, this is the direction CAF will be going.

The OP has no interest in really finding info about Episcopalians or their church, but
only creating controversy.

CAF will be taken over by a motley group I am afraid.

I suspected that might be the case, when I replied to post #19. I judged it to be disingenuous. But you know me. If it relates to something about Anglicans (or certain other subjects), I usually will make a comment. It’s was what started me posting online, back around 20 years ago. As long as I’m around, I probably will do so.

Not sure how long that will be, to be sure.

I understand the desire to respond to anything about Anglicans or Anglicanism, but
I hate to see you waste your time and vast knowledge on these disingenuous
posts. If this is the future of CAF, I won’t be sticking around if it is not serious
discussion.

In England there is no separation of Church and State, yet religion scarcely figures in political debate. I have yet to hear a British politician end a speech by asking the Almighty to bless the United Kingdom – perhaps because we are confident that where we are concerned He needs no urging 🙂 .

In the United States there is allegedly separation, and yet religion and politics are in practice interwoven, including even candidates seeking endorsement by particular religious groups. In those circumstances it seems pertinent to discuss the President’s religious observance against the background of any of his professions of religious belief.

As far as I am aware, however, Mrs Trump has not been vocal in the public sphere, and gossip about her religious convictions seems to me to be verging on the impertinent.

Yes indeed!

I am no fan of President Trump – at all.

But seriously, the man is in church, with his family. I don’t care what ulterior motives any of them might have. They’re in church. I’m gonna take it at face value. And yeah, I still don’t like the man as a leader, or as a person, but I am NOT going to judge his spiritual life.

We should pray for him and his family.

👍

Spoken by someone whose idea of serious discussion apparently includes going around and accusing others of hate simply because they do not support or are not followers of a politician named Trump.

I didn’t see the OP in that way at all.

Fact: The Trumps have on occasion attend Episcopal churches near Mar-a-Lago and now the WH.

Fact: President Trump is on record saying he was not sure he had ever asked God for forgiveness and that he doesn’t even bring God into that picture.

Fact: President Trump spoke of a “little cracker”.

Fact: FLOTUS says she is a Catholic.

Fact: They were married in TEC, baptized their son in TEC, and at least the President has taken communion there.

The OP merely wanted to know what Episcopalians believed and wondered what the Trumps believe. Nothing wrong with that. And I think the answers were supplied, by even using the words of Trump himself, the best that could be.

Because many of the posts here about Trump are very unChristian because they are so filled with hate for and about Trump. I don’t support Bernie Sanders or follow him, but I don’t hate him. I did not support Marco Rubio or Ted Cruz, but I did not hate
him.

For people to post here multiple hours a day 7 days a week bashing and trashing President Trump and his family it has to be a strong emotion motivating them.

Denial is not a river in Egypt.
