**PRAYER TO ST. MONICA

Dear St. Monica,
troubled wife and mother,
many sorrows pierced your heart during your lifetime.
Yet, you never despaired or lost faith.
With confidence, persistence, and profound faith,
you prayed daily for the conversion
of your beloved husband, Patricius,
and your beloved son, Augustine;
your prayers were answered.
Grant me that same fortitude, patience,
and trust in the Lord.
Intercede for me, dear St. Monica,
that God may favorably hear my plea for

the conversion of my husband, healing and salvation of our marriage, and the strong faith of our son, the conversion of all sinners in our families and of the spouses being prayed for here by CAF members,**

and grant me the grace to accept His Will in all things,
through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever.

Amen.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death.

I wanted to start this thread as a place for wives with unbelieving/non-Catholic husbands to come together to pray and support each other. I am a Catholic convert of 2 years now and pray every day for the conversion of my husband. I have found the intercession of St. Monica to be very encouraging, so thought maybe she could be the patroness saint of this thread.

Please join and introduce yourselves!
Hello Lone Catholic!
What a great discovery to find this thread!
I had fallen away from the church for about 8 years when my husband and I were married by a Unitarian minister. I always considered myself Catholic and planned to get back to going to church, but you know how it is when you’re young…🤷
My husband was a divorced Catholic and we wanted to get married right away, not wait for the Church to get around to saying whether we could or not. After all, what did the Church know?😊 Anyway, I became pregnant about a month after our wedding and started to get serious about church again. My husband humored me, but wasn’t all that interested in returning to church. He had (has) some pretty negative memories of the church and I go to Mass where he went as a kid. He did get around to having his first marriage annulled after we’d been married for about 12 years and our marriage was blessed in the Church. 👍 Long story short, we were blessed with only 2 sons and a little saint in heaven. I tried to do a good job raising them Catholic, getting them baptized, taking them to church from the time they were very small, sending them to Catholic school. They both were confirmed, and then promptly dropped off the Catholic map. The eldest one blames God for some physical problems he was born with and the other one says the church is too bureaucratic and hypocritical. So the three men in my life have rejected the Church and I feel like I have failed miserably as a Christian Catholic. I feel like if I’d been a good example, perhaps they would have learned to love Jesus and His Church like I do. I never seemed to be able to communicate it to them.
Anyway, I’m glad to find you and I’m really grateful for the prayer to St. Monica that someone shared. I knew about her, but I have to admit, I’m not as consistant as I need to be in my prayers.
In Christ,
Jennifer

I’m sorry you have to join us in this thread Jennifer, but welcome. 🙂 Don’t beat yourself up too much – it won’t do any good. Instead, try to put your energy into praying for your husband and sons. St. Monica is a great example of perseverance – her husband didn’t convert until he was on his deathbed, but he did convert! And of course, her son (St. Augustine) eventually left behind his wild ways and became a saint and leader!

Praying for you and your family too. :crossrc:

Just to share: my DH (dear husband) and I were married in the Catholic Church, although he was raised Methodist. He considers himself a Christian but doesn’t practice any religion, and he does have some issues with the Catholic Church. It’s very difficult to go to Mass each week with only our daughter (who was Baptized in the Catholic Church), and to not be able to share this most important part of my life with him. Little by little I can see him opening up, so I just keep praying that he will open his mind, heart, and soul to Jesus and the Church.

Another great example for us wives is Elisabeth Leseur. I’m not usually a fan of wikipedia, but there’s a good summary of her life here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elisabeth_Leseur

I highly recommend reading her diary – it’s excellent and inspiring.

All i can say is…Holy Cow!!! So much has happened with a two day absence! (modum fried in a thunder storm power surge)

Prayers going out to everyone’s situation and once i get all read and caught up, i will be more informed over what i see…new members of this wonderful thread!!

I am so glad that so many have come and found some comfort with each other, and not feeling so alone in this situation at home. The more it goes on, the more pressure we feel. Sometimes, and this is what we are hopeing, that the grace to endure holds us stronger, so that we can be stronger wives and mothers.

God bless the moms, the jobs needed, the extra patience, and the gentle touch we need of Gods hand on our hurting hearts. God as well as us wives and moms want what is best for the journey…please let him lead us, and let us hear the wispers of his voice on the wind.

Lana

Hi Everyone, I’m new here. I have been in a very unhappy marriage for 32 years and nine children…4 married as of 2 weeks ago,and so far ten of the most adorable grandchildren you have ever seen! 😉 My husband suffers from ‘romance addiction’, he is a Christian. Would anyone else on this forum happen to know of this addiction and would care to share some insights into it with me? Thank you so much and may God in His Greatness answer all your prayers concerning your DH’s!
Hi JayneSusan,
I am not familiar with that. Are you familiar with Retrouvaille? (I hope I spelled that correctly) It is a Catholic program for troubled marriages .

Thanks Belle,
I saw her diary in the bookstore and almost bought it. I’ll pick it up next time!.

Hello -

I am not a Catholic (yet) - I was raised agnostic/atheist and then was baptized by an evangelical church 5 years ago (sect of the Church of Christ). I was married a year after that to my husband, who was taught and baptized in the same church. The last few years have been a time of searching spiritually and we’ve both made a lot of amazing discoveries together (though usually by my leading…), including the conviction to not use birth control and more recently, the conviction that the Body and the Blood of Christ is present in the Eucharist. Paired with a lot of study of the early Church, I’m starting to come to the realization that the Catholic Church is where the fullness of Truth resides – and where I belong.

This has been extremely difficult for me because of the tremendous amount of anti-Catholic teaching out there, esp among evangelicals…but I think it is even harder on my husband. He found out this last week that I’m interested in Catholicism and got super angry. He went as far as to accuse me of being deceived by Satan and imply that I’m walking away from God. He has started arguing with me on how “evil” the Church is and how he needs to “protect” me from their false teaching. It’s very difficult.

I don’t know quite how to proceed so I would appreciate the prayers of those who frequent this forum. I don’t want to be unsubmissive to him but at the same time I want to pursue God and do what is right by Him. We have a 14 mo old and another on the way and I want to provide a solid spiritual future for them as well. Please offer your prayers to God for our situation and for discernment on my part on what I should and shouldn’t do. Thank you so much.
Dear Sister in Christ!
Have you read the book, Rome Sweet Home, by Scott and Kimberley Hahn? If not, you might wish to read it and then ask your DH to read it. Scott Hahn also has some wonderful tapes/cds. You are definitely in my prayers. Your journey will not be easy, but it will be worthwhile!
Remember Paul’s words: I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me!
In Christ,
Jennifer

Oops–I just went backward and saw that you are already familiar with the Hahns. Sorry for not paying closer attention. You’re still in my prayers. I know this has to be terribly stressful for you right now!

St Monica please intercede for all our husbands and our marriages with the faithfulness you had in prayer for your husband and son.

Hello to all the St. M’s family!

Got back from our mini-vacation in Denver last night. We had a mostly good time. DD acted up big time and we canceled our last days plans (amusement park…silly girl!) and just hung out for the day.

I ended up with a nasty head cold and was sick for the entire time. I’m mostly better now.

I continue to ask for your prayers for my marriage to continue on this path of healing we are on. I know God’s hand is involved in the progress we have made.

Prayer to Saint Joseph for all sick husbands to find help.

O glorious St. Joseph,
friend of the Sacred Heart of Jesus,
thou whose power renders impossible things possible,
come to our aid in our present trouble and distress.
Take these important and difficult affairs
which we recommend to your protection,
that they may end happily.

O dear St. Joseph,
all our confidence is in you.
Let it not be said that we have invoked you in vain,
and since you are so powerful with Jesus and Mary,
show that your goodness equals power.

Amen.

St. Joseph, friend of the Sacred Heart of Jesus,
pray for us and for all who invoke your aid.

St. Joseph, friend of the Sacred Heart of Jesus,
pray for us and for all who invoke your aid.

St. Joseph, friend of the Sacred Heart of Jesus,
pray for us and for all who invoke your aid.

Hi girls,

What a horrible week this has been. The last two days have been especially grueling. DH is very troubled - VERY troubled. I’m worried about my son and his relationship with his dad. My son is getting “feisty” about protecting me - which is worrisome. I don’t want anything physical to happen to him. Please pray for my son. He’s such a good son - very spiritual. Please keep me in your prayers too. I thank you all so much, and you are all in my prayers as well. God bless. 😦

Thank you for your prayers, Bee!! How are YOU doing? I hope all is well. God bless you, friend. 🙂

I wanted to drop in and thank you for your prayers – since I first posted, my husband has demonstrated a much softer demeanor and he’s indicated he’s even willing to read a Catholic apologetic book I bought! This is very good news and I can only attribute it to your prayers. :gopray:

Mom4Truth,

I will remember you and your family at Eucharistic Adoration today on my lunch beak from work. Also will be praying for all on this thread today.
