Well, today is the last day of my Thanksgiving Novena to St. Monica.

I will continue my intentions in my daily prayers, and I ask all of you to continue to pray for me and my husband. Things have not gone well since he decided to drink after his 30 day commitment. He has drank, two days since. He is mad at me and is isolating himself from me.

I believe my marriage is under attack by satan and I am struggling to keep my focus. I’ll pop in here to pray for other wives intentions. Thanks to all of you who have been praying for us.
Lamb, I’m so sorry. 😦 I’m also sorry I’ve been away from the thread so long (vacation). You know, when things start going well, we often get lax with our prayers (at least I know that happens to me sometimes :o ) and I think that’s where Satan sees a weak spot – if we’re not in constant communication with God, Satan tries to take a small gap and turn it into a huge hole to separate us from God – and he knows exactly how to hit us. (this is not a criticism of you, just a reflection on my part, hope you don’t take it the wrong way :o ) Keep praying, keep trusting in our Lord – for we remember the promises of His Holy Word:

But Jesus looked at them and said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible.”
~Mark 10:27

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.”
~Jeremiah 29:11

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
~Philippians 4:13

Sometimes I feel very weak, not strong at all, but that doesn’t matter – I am strong in Him even when I don’t feel like I am. If I am weak in something, that’s OK too, because:

And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
~2 Corinthians 12:9

:grouphug: For all the marriages represented here, I offer the following prayer to our Lord Jesus through St. Monica :crossrc:

PRAYER TO ST. MONICA
Dear St. Monica, troubled wife and mother,
many sorrows pierced your heart during your lifetime.
Yet, you never despaired or lost faith.
With confidence, persistence, and profound faith,
you prayed daily for the conversion of your beloved husband,
Patricius, and your beloved son, Augustine;
your prayers were answered.
Grant me that same fortitude, patience, and trust in the Lord.
Intercede for me, dear St. Monica,
that God may favorably hear my plea for

(Mention your intention here.)

and grant me the grace to accept His Will
in all things, through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Well I’m a husband and I could use a prayer now and then. St. Monica? Interesting choice for a patroness. Thanks for the thread!

Hi prayerbead, I’m Belle 👋

I didn’t start this thread, but I like it (although I haven’t been posting or praying nearly enough lately!). St. Monica was St. Augustine’s mother – a devout woman who prayed constantly and confidently for the conversion of her husband and her son. For more about her, check these out:

Welcome, and God bless you.

Praying for all you prayerbead as well as all husbands and asking St. Monica for intercessory prayers for the intentions of all wives.

Hi Lamb, how are you? :hug1:

So, my husband should be hearing this Friday about a job he interviewed for and really wants (and we really need - he’s unemployed). Aside from the usual petitions to St. Monica, I’m adding this one! :crossrc: Also, Friday is his 30th birthday, so it would be a great present for him (and us) if he gets it. I’m trying not to get my hopes up too much so as not to be too disappointed if he doesn’t get it :o but it’s hard not to be hopeful. We’ve been struggling for a long time.

Prayers for all husbands, wives, marriages, and families represented here. :grouphug: ❤️

Hi Belle,

Still praying for hubby. Situation is really at a standstill right now. Waiting for a sign and a commitment from him to change and move forward.

My priest agreed to be my spiritual adviser so I can keep my soul in order so I can keep be ever mindful what it says in Matthew 7:3-5,
Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove that splinter from your eye,’ while the wooden beam is in your eye? You hypocrite, remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter from your brother’s eye.

Hi! 👋 I found it!!!

He’s mellowed out since then, not quite ready to leave me anymore over all that “God stuff” (he thought it was harmful to our children), but he’s still very uncomfortable with anything having to do with God. I think it’s the holy Spirit convicting his heart of sin, but he thinks it’s me being judgemental.

What about the rest of you?

In Christ,
Nancy 🙂
Not sure if I am reading this correctly…If I am understanding you correctly…your husband has thought about leaving but can not find the courage because you are so close to God???

Well if this is what you are saying…I am in the same boat. My husband tells me… I make him feel he has the devil inside! I think it is easier to point the finger at me rather than…admitting he is wrong.

In any case…I will pray for your husband and your marriage.

Good, KEEP PRAYING. I truly believe alcoholism is a weapon in spiritual warfare, and it’s counterpart is prayer! I know you’re hurting, but never forget Jesus is with you. He promised us He would never leave us, and He doesn’t – He is with us physically in the Blessed Sacrament. Try going to adoration if you can --bring your daughter, just go for a few minutes if you can’t do an hour. Your soul will be strengthened and renewed. ❤️

Offering a prayer for you right now. :crossrc: :hug1:

I have found the intercession of St. Monica to be very encouraging, so thought maybe she could be the patroness saint of this thread.

Please join and introduce yourselves!
Howdy. I am Mark, a Baptist who is in RCIA. The Lord has blessed me greatly with a passion to learn about the Church. I believe in intercessory prayers through Saints. I was advised (I reckon that’s the right word) by an employee of a Catholic gift store to pray through the intercession of St. Monica in regards to my mom’s staunchly anti-Catholic views. I guess she’s a good one 🤷 …she prayed about her son and his conversion.

Yep, St. Monica is one to be on it. She never gave up.🙂

Welcome Mark! 🙂 Congratulations on coming home to the Catholic Church! 😃

I just learned about St. Monica recently myself, and she is a good one. 😃 I also love St. Faustina – you should read the Diary of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska: Divine Mercy in My Soul – it’s a wonderful blessing!! I’m interested in reading about St. Therese the Little Flower and St. Maximillion Kolbe too…

Anyway, welcome, and God bless you on your journey. :hug1:

She also help lead her Mother In Law to conversion. The woman was mean to her, made everyone think that she (St. Monica) was a bad person because of her faith, however, she continued with her charity and compassion toward everyone. Eventually, her MIL saw her peace and wanted that as well…

So, that’s a good reason for St. Monica to pray for you and your mom, she’s good at it! 👍

Ladies, I continue to pray for the conversion of husbands. My husband is coming around, recently started this thing about praying before meals…we even went out to eat last weekend and he prayed over our meal in public!

The green scapular still remains under his side of the bed…😛 he doesn’t know about it.

My husband just needs to slow down and enjoy God’s graces.

Again, I’m still praying, although I don’t participate on this thread much.

I’m blessed that my MIL is a very faithful and loving person, although she’s in the Methodist Church. I’m praying maybe one day she’ll come to the fullness of the Roman Catholic Church…but she’s a lay speaker and because of shortages of pastors, she’s an acting pastor for one of the smaller churches nearby. :o But, at least she loves Jesus and isn’t hostile toward me.

How wonderful about him wanting to say grace! My husband is like that too – he’ll always remind me if I forget  but he never wants to actually say the prayer – I have to do it (which I don’t mind). Our little one loves to say grace, and we have to all hold hands, so at least during those short times we’re praying together “gathered in His Name.” 🙂

Before I had come here to ask for prayers for my husband’s conversion/reversion to the CC. Now I want to come and ask if we could pray for his lost soul. I don’t think we’ll ever get back together but I pray he changes his ways. He became abusive in the 2nd yr of our marriage, and we haven’t even been married for 2 yrs yet. I really don’t know how to put it into words, but he needs people to pray for him. I pray he changes his ways so he doesn’t hurt anyone ever again.

Yessi, please know that I am praying to St. Monica and St. Rita for you. I have been through something very similar with my daughter’s father and feel your pain. I am always here for you anytime. Feel free to PM me.

Praying for you…

Hail, Mary! Full of grace,
The Lord is with thee,
Blessed are thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now, and at the hour of our death.
Amen

Thank you for the link. It mentioned that St. Augustine wrote some of the most finest pages of ‘The Confessions’ as his mother died. I just got the book and just started reading it.

“In your mercy, Lord, you received the tears of St. Monica as she wept for her son. At the intercession of both mother and son, give us grace to weep for sin and to obtain Your forgiveness. Amen.”

WOW! I JUST posted as thread in this forum about my agnostic fiance and I looked up a little higher and saw this sticky. Great encouragement for someone in this type of relationship. Thank you so much!
