But, Caesar, do you really think it’s YOU they’re going to ask? I’m not asking that hatefully, I promise you. They aren’t asking me, either! The overwhelming “sense,” though, where do you think that lies?

And I have to say, if you think it was a matter of being a media “star,” those last few years, with his face frozen in that Parkinson’s mask, with the drool running down the side of his face, that palsied hand, you’re gravely mistaken. It wasn’t stardom. It was because, no matter what, he didn’t falter. He followed Christ right straight up Calvary. I think his sainthood is a forgone conclusion, but that’s also the reason he’ll be (and is now) called the Great.
But that reflects his personal holiness- something that I will not argue. He was a very holy man. He was a very strong man. But like I said, history rarely reflects such things on leaders- rather it reflects the outcomes and consequences of their decisions. And, with all due respect to him, some of his decisions were very damaging.

How is that slander? I am saying that though many see him as Great now, history is likely to say differant. Was is slanderous to say that a mortal man made mistakes?
Oh, good grief. No, it’s not slanderous to say a mortal man made mistakes. But that’s not what YOU said, is it? You used much more forceful language, and said that this man, in particular, made terrible mistakes in his decisions as Pope.

And that’s bordering on slander, if not actually being slander.

If you’re going to make such a claim (and as a high school student, no matter how well read you are, you must know that any opinion you have is qualified simply by your tender age) back it up! Give us some reasoned argument.

Sheesh.

BTW, I’m not asking to have control over his blog. I’m just wondering if there’s anything of value in it.
Let me guess Balance…the judge of whether or not his blog has any value would be YOU, wouldn’t it?

Caesar, I love your blog and find that it has MUCH value in it! You are very intelligent and articulate and will make an awesome priest! :clapping:

I think some of his decisions were questionable. I don’t think the dear old man should have kissed the Koran (even though I don’t think it was the apostacy some make out) and I’m still a little taken aback by the Assisi thing (if it was different than what it appeared to be, and I’m sure it was, then we should have been better chatechized as to what it WAS supposed to be).But not damaging.

I would just bet that history accords him the title of “Great.” We’ll just have to see.

I second that. But Caesar, when are you going to update your blog???

Why not add 5 more? Or 25, or 50?
Our Lady of Fatima asked us to pray one-third of the rosary every day, if possible. So with the new “luminous” mysteries (and it sure is mysterious why he felt the need to add them), how many decades do we pray to amount to one-third of the rosary? It used to be a simple five decades…but now it’s, let’s see, about 6.66 decades. I’m terrrible with math. (Not that I’m trying to imply anything…but where have I seen that number before? Anyway, back to topic…) In light of every thing he did during his pontificate, it’s suprising John Paul the Great did not write 20 new psalms.
Actually, you forgot to round up. It’s 6.66666666 and so forth, which is about 6.67. But perhaps it references John 6:67 “After this many of his disciples went back; and walked no more with him”

Maybe you’re right. But it makes more sense to me that the devil would use such tricks to keep people from the Church rather than the devil using the Church to make people more faithful to it. Perhaps one day Mary will appear and tell us to pray 1/4 of the Rosary. The Rosary as “Mary’s Psalter” is a beautiful comparison, but it is just accidental, not essential to the Rosary.

Traditions are fluid and they do change. They are more like rivers than lakes, but nonetheless, I’d like to see few rapids and waterfalls 🙂

You really can’t come up with any names? You do have some historical knowledge, don’t you?
Names of popes who changed the Mass for “rock stars” of their era? Nope, I have to say I’m quite in the dark about that aspect of history, LOL. Care to enlighten me, Balance?

Haha, it has been a while, hasnt it? 😉

I’ll get around to posting about the Triduum this week, and then I want to do a write-up on some architecture.

You may be right. Unfortunately history isn’t always so kind, or truthful. Remember, the English still think of Elizabeth I as “Good Queen Bess” and her sister as “Bloody Mary.” And we all know that isn’t exactly an accurate description, don’t we Vegas.

There’s lots of books on Popes. Do you need me to recommend some titles?
Yeah, I’ve read a few books on Popes and Church history but they must have left out the ones you’re referring to? How 'bout making it easy for me and supplying the names of the popes you’re talking about and perhaps a brief description of what they did?

Oh, “Cor” Jesu, do learn to read more carefully. I didn’t say that popes changed the Mass FOR rock stars. I said other popes changed the Mass (surely that’s at least a notch up on the Rosary) and had their own “rock stars” (their own celebraties, not literally rock stars).

There’s a thread on Fastracking the Canonization of JPII in the Spirituality forum, BTW.

You’re comparing John Paul II to the TUDORS?!?!? In historical judgment?!?!??!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

OK, now I’m curious. What’s with the Cor in quotes with the  after it?

Oh OK, I thought you were saying they changed the Mass to allow their own “rock stars” (celebrities) to perform in them, you know, like JP2 did. I knew they were not “literally” rock stars, Vegas. Thanks for clearing that up! 👍
