I take it none of you have been ‘wounded’ by ‘fellow’ Catholics on these forums. From personal experience I can state it’s very challenging, to say the least, to have Catholics state one must go against their conscience, especially in ‘partisan’ matters. CAF is supposed to be Catholic forums and neither conservative or liberal.
It’s your choice, but I would agree that not voting for Romney will only bring Obama that much closer to another 4 years of misery for our country.

You personally have been charitable. There are some who are not. I have been attacked as living in a right wing bubble by a Catholic poster who then proceeded to tell him he lives in reality.

I have been accused of listening to “Faux News” and Rush without my ever having referenced them.

Catholic first, all else follows if at all. Politics is not a license to drop charity, or the principles taught to us by Christ. We are to love even our enemies and none of us are enemies, least of all those in the body of Christ.

Romney once said he was more pro-choice than Edward Kennedy. Now, he’s pro-life. I do not trust a politician that changes his view as his political aspirations changes. If I’m right, it does no good to elect him. That’s where the Church leaves us to our consciences, because they do not want to be in a position of supporting a candidate that might not be what he claims to be.

That’s just for me to follow. It is up to each Catholic to follow their consciences.

I’ve clearly stated that I did not support either of the two main party candidates and I would either not vote, or write in a pro-life candidate. I have also said, repeatedly, that I am pro-life. I don’t know how to make it anymore clear than that.
You know, I went that very route last election. I voted for a 100% pro-life constitutional candidate that most closely mirrored my faith belief. Of course, he had no chance to win but I defended my position on this very forum by stating I could not help how others would vote and could only concern myself with how I would be judged by our Lord over my prayerful and informed choice. Well, I’m changing my tune this time around and even tho I do not believe either choice is pro-life, I am absolutely convinced I must vote for Romney. The HHS mandate by itself, which will pump another billion into the coffers of Planned Parenthood, convinced me of this alone. When the choices aren’t so clear, the rule is still to limit the evil:

Thanks. As you know there are several out there. I have read as many as I’ve found. Some seem a little biased, or to have variances to be more precise; that is, some seem to limit us to a single candidate and others do not. I have discussed the excerpt from Cardinal Ratzinger’s statement, and how I viewed it. It’s very similar to how it is explained by Bishop Lennon.

Bishop Lennon
The Faithful Citizenship presentations are based directly on the statement of the Catholic Bishops of the United States in their most recent version of the Faithful Citizenship document from October 2011. The Bishops’ statement is quoted extensively throughout the course of the presentation, including the portions of the Bishops’ statement that clearly indicate that intrinsic evils, such as abortion, must always be opposed and that a Catholic can never in good conscience vote for a candidate who takes a position in favor of an intrinsic evil if it is the voter’s intent to support that position.
Bishop Lennon noted, “There is no evidence that the Faithful Citizenship presentations are biased, but reflect the straightforward teachings of the United States Bishops and the Catholic Church on how an individual’s faith relates to his voting choices. This issue has been grossly distorted by a few individuals who wrongly claim to represent the entire Right to Life movement and whose purpose is not to shed light on authentic Catholic teaching but to remake and narrow the scope of Catholic teaching to fit their own personal agenda.” Bishop Lennon also noted that it is very telling that the detractors have given no specific example of any statement made at the forums that is contrary to Church beliefs and teaching.
Before it starts, please let’s not place one bishop over another. I am providing this only to show why I think it would be necessary for the one voice over ALL Catholics to speak clearly for all of us to understand, if it was meant to be ONLY one choice.

But your logic ignores the fact that Obama is unquestionably pro-choice, and anti-religion.

I’m sorry, and I really don’t mean this in a bad way, but I think that voting for a third-party candidate or a write-in at this point is really just placing your hands over your ears and saying “La la la la!” as loudly as you can.

I’m sorry you feel that way. The Church has specific teachings on conscience. I’m staying with mine. As I said, I’m not trying to change other people’s minds. They should follow their conscience. What bothers me is the lack of charity people feel free to utilize to promote a candidate.

Ugh.

Thought I would be reading about Stacey Dash’s Twitter exchanges…

I think it is because Catholics are scared to death about what is going to happen to the Church in the next four years and to their souls.

Information shared without compassion, or charity, is usually not completely factual. Food for thought…
Give it to me straight doctor, I can take it!!

Doctor Johnny Fever

I’ll have mine unadulterated if you please.

Yes, this thread has evolved into a sobbing rant. We have all had harsh things said to us (if we’ve been here long enough). Words without faces sometimes become distorted and the true meaning of what one is saying (writing) gets lost in some cases.

Stacy Dash had every right to speak her mind, and defending oneself is important. She simply stated a view that contradicted the consensus of her race.
