Stephen Colbert has taken positions on issues at odds with Faithful Catholic teaching.I know that Mr. Colbert is a practicing and devout Catholic, and he is very popular, but I have to wonder how he got away with two things:
I’m sorry for those Catholics who admire Stephen Colbert, but this comes off as highly hypocritical of him, if you ask me.
- Why didn’t he get reprimanded for getting certification to be a minister to perform wedding ceremonies when he performed a wedding ceremony for a couple who got married during the government shutdown? I’m surprised that a devout and practicing Catholic like Stephen Colbert would do such a thing, and I’m even further surprised that none of the U.S. bishops have commented on it, at least to my knowledge.
- After the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage in the U.S., Stephen Colbert went on the air and mocked every one of the Supreme Court Justices who voted against gay marriage. I DARE him to mock the Catholic bishops who feel pretty much the same way that the dissenting Supreme Court Justices feel about it.
Any thoughts?
When it comes especially to celebrities and politicians, please do not fall for the “I’m Catholic because I say so” act.
And let’s not dare anyone to insult our bishops. Sadly, there’s enough of that already.
