My first album was “Parallel Lines”. I played it in one of those suitcase 🧳 record players.

That was a smart move.

Madonna was another one who felt she could not take care of children and had a number of abortions.

Her words, not mine…
You always have regrets when you make those kind of decisions, but you have to look at your lifestyle and ask, ‘Am I at a place in my life where I can devote a lot of time to being the really good parent I want to be?’ None of us wants to make mistakes in that role, and I imagine a lot of us look at the way our parents raised us and say, ‘I definitely wouldn’t want to do it quite that way.’ I think you have to be mentally prepared for it. If you’re not, you’re only doing the world a disservice by bringing up a child you don’t want."

Madonna, to her credit, did go on to have six children, two her own bio children and four adopted.

Stevie Nicks has had no children, although she was a stepmom to her husband’s son from a previous marriage.

Edited to add, I think this thread is getting into unnecessary gossip and judgment of people we do not know (as in who’s had an abortion, who’s a “success” by some arbirtrary net worth gauge etc) so I am going to mute it now.

This sounds like a strong argument for adoption. It’s a shame when people decide that they would rather kill their children then give them the opportunity to grow up in adoptive families.
Sacrificing kids on the altar of material success is not justified by the millions made (or envisioned).
Perhaps we might pray for the repentance and restoration in the mercy of Our Lord of moms who have made this choice and for eternal rest in the Light of Christ for the babies who have lost their lives due to this choice.

Yes prays are in order. These celebrities put on such a persona as bring “good” yet they have little concern for drug or alcohol problems. It is a shame that they cannot take a bit of bad press for not being the most ideal parent while they are struggling to make it and gain stability.

I know Macy Gray often talks about how she got such bad press because she had three children and while she was trying to put bread on the table, she was seen as neglecting them when she truly loves her children.

. Although I like her music, I do not want to think that in order for her to succeed, she would have had to have an abortion.

I really wonder how many other stars, singers, musicians, artists feel this way, just tragic
It is sad.

But unfortunately it has been the case for many women. That’s why there’s strong pro-choice support and how birth control and abortion became linked to the feminist movement, because they realised it’s hard to be independent, to pursue what they want etc if they would have to give birth when they least expect it

I get that sentiment, and I get where she was coming from. If I get knocked up now, it would greatly affect my career and educational goals. I imagine it to be worse if you’re in the showbiz, where you’re constantly touring.

Taylor Swift briefly talked about this in a documentary, where she expressed hesitation over having children because she said her life is always planned out ‘2-3 years ahead of time’. They’re a brand, and their actions directly contribute to their team’s paychecks. Some artists address this by taking a break or doing what fits them the most (e.g. I believe she herself stopped doing insane tours), but that’s usually a luxury for those who are already rich and successful and could rely on the occasional album or tour.

It’s just that at the end of the day, it’s simply not morally okay to end an innocent life. A Catholic response would to just make various industries more appropriate for mothers, and appropriate behaviour obviously.

Walking over the dead bodies of others, in pursuit of material gain is not new in our world, but it’s painful seeing it encouraged and celebrated.
Women pointing to killing children in the name of achieving goals might be horrified at the idea of their husbands treating them in similar fashion in the name of achieving theirs. Domestic violence is a problem both within and outside of the womb.

Your last sentence scares me. Are you saying you think Women who get abortions should be charged with a crime like Gilead in real life?

I think you may have responded to me by mistake. I am unfamiliar with Gilead.

Check out what Harmless Dave of The Real Music Observer has to say regarding Stevie Nicks’s tragic decision:
