After all, they’re the one’s who cost us who do, lots of money when they show up in ER’s without health insurance.
Yes, so many people treat the ER like their doctor’s office. It is such a burden on the system. Hopefully this is a step towards a more equitable health care system for everyone.

Maybe he can just choose not to enforce it, like DOMA, or certain immigration laws?

😉
Hell have to enforce it, because taxpayers will be footing the expensive bill of those who refuse to get health insurance and show up at hospital ERs.

Jim

So what? Do you think he or the left cares? Obama won huge–and I mean HUGE!
You’re being overly dramatic. They didn’t win huge at all, in terms of votes. Before the verdict, there was debate over which result would help the President more. Now, itss a slam dunk? You’re just depressed.

5 months from an election, and an issue that ranks way below the economy. Does this help anyone feed their family tomorrow?

Time will tell whether this moves the polling needle, but historical odds say it will not swing any election. Odds says it will be about who makes the most compelling case about the economy.

Romney would have the states put the mandate in place.

Without the mandate, the program doesn’t work.

Romeny put the mandate in Massachusetts, because he knew it wouldn’t work otherwise.

Either way, if Romney is elected, he will not have the number of votes in Congress to thrown Obama Care out, and he knows it. The Senate is still in control of the democrats.

Jim
You are counting on Democrats staying a senate majority, and you have no idea whether that is going to happen.

This article describes how Republicans could get rid of key parts of ObamaCare, including mandate

No it doesn’t.

If you have health insurance, you don’t pay the tax.

And why shouldn’t those who refuse to buy insurance pay the tax?

After all, they’re the one’s who cost us who do, lots of money when they show up in ER’s without health insurance.

Jim
Yes, it does. If you earn less than $250k, and don’t have insurance, you see your taxes go up.

When the number gets bigger, it is called a TAX INCREASE.

Indeed. The live stream I saw said the decision was 6-3, but now every article I have seen says 5-4. That means Roberts was the swing vote this time, not Kennedy.

I guess we’ll be able to parse it out ourselves once the SCOTUS website posts the decision.
The decision is 5-4 on counting ACA penalty as a tax.

For Roberts, Ginsberg, Sotomayer, Breyer & Kagan

Against - the other 4

Well, my wife and I just lost our family doctor who we’ve had for over 20 years. He was waiting to see what would happen. He will now join a universal “concierge” service that will charge over $1700 per patient per year. We are on a fixed income and can’t afford an additional $290 per month in addition to other healthcare insurance costs.

Thanks to all Obama supporters.

They’ll be there for at least the next two years after November’s election.

By the time the Senate could change, the law will already be in force and people will not vote for any candidate who will promise to have them dumped from their health insurance.

Well, that might make sense if the government paid their bills, but the government *doesn’t *pay their bills. And a lot of people who don’t buy health insurance pay their own bills, and now they will have to pay a tax for not buying insurance.

Health insurance costs a lot of money, the range I read back when they were puting this bill together was something like $3000+/year on average in places like Idaho, to $10,000+/year in places like NYS. (For families) So people who don’t get health insurance through their job, who are mostly low-paid people, are supposed to buy health insurance *with income that is taxed, *while those who get insurance through their work, mostly the more highly-paid employees, get insurance *and do not pay taxes on the employer’s contribution. *The less highly paid are getting soaked on this whole deal, by the Democrats, the so-called guys who look out for the little guy. yeah, right.

Supreme Court Upholds Pro-Abortion, Pro-Rationing Obamacare
Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, told LifeNews, “The Supreme Court today officially declared that our current government pays no heed to the Constitution. Neither the President, nor Congress, nor the Supreme Court appears willing to protect life or liberty. If ever there were a time in history when the American people needed to be informed voters on Election Day, this is it.”
Priests for Life filed a lawsuit in February against the Health and Human Services mandate that all employers provide contraception to their employees free of charge. That lawsuit will continue, Pavone said.
“Priests for Life will remain vigilant on the issue of contraception,” Father Pavone said. “The mandate is a brazen attack on our religious liberty. Today’s ruling on Obamacare was a setback, but it is not the end of the battle.”
Father Shenan J. Boquet, president of Human Life International, also condemned the decision.
“Today’s ruling is confusing and very disappointing, but is in no way the end of the battle against the many injustices of the ‘Affordable Care Act,’ also known as ‘Obamacare.’ We are confident that the 12 pending federal lawsuits brought by 43 different organizations against the Obama administration’s HHS department will be validated by the Supreme Court, and that religious freedom will again be upheld in law,” he said.
He continued, “We remain very concerned about the many serious moral failings of the health care law, which have sparked a wave of opposition rallies across the nation. Under the Affordable Care Act, abortions are free of charge, but life saving medicine and treatments require a co-pay. All Americans who are on government subsidized healthcare plans (which would be almost all Americans) will be forced to pay for abortion through a hidden surcharge that insurance companies are not even allowed to tell their customers about, except in the initial sign up process. This is how radically pro-abortion the Obama administration really is, and its ‘health care reform’ policy reflects this radical stance.”

So now the gov’t can levy taxes against us for actions NOT taken? You don’t see a problem with that? The door is WIDE OPEN now for the suppression of the Church. All Congress has to do is introduce the IRS into legislation, and it’s done. i.e, that’s a really nice hospital you got there, Father. 'Be a shame if something should happen to it.

But if you have insurance, which only makes sense to have anyway, your taxes will not go up.

FYI, Obama was talking about income and capital gains tax rates, which is different than this. Although the Justices said you can’t call it a penalty, but a tax, the effect is still a penalty.

Jim

Please, do not try to discern my state of mind (I am NOT depressedd), and I am not being overly dramatic. I just feel this makes Obama a total lock.

People underestimate how these Supreme Court decisions galvanize voters, not sway them.

Was anyone convinced by Bush vs Gore in 2000? The USSC ruled, and TO THIS VERY DAY, people are still angry over having an election “stolen.”

If anything, this could giver Romney fodder for votes - the only way it will EVER go down now is under Republican leadership, since the USSC let voters down.

You believe people will agree with being paid a tax because they will not buy insurance? Wait till their premiums go up, many employers are already dropping insurance. No program, social security etc. has ever become so unpopular over time, ObamaCare is unique.
