Interesting…people on this very thread do not agree with this.
He would win in a landslide. As to your first point, by that logic we shouldn’t bother voting for anyone. Although, we do know what Obama will do, and we don’t like it.Maybe…who knows what he’ll do once he gets in office. He certainly has an interesting record following him.
And frankly, Romald Reagan couldn’t win a Republican primary these days running on his own record.
Glad to be of service, my friendDid not know what Pyrric meant. Looked it up, I agree.![]()
Ironic considering mandated health care coverage was first instituted by Romney as governor of Massachusetts. As if Romney needs more money.Romney has raised $375000 Andrea Saul tweeted 15 minutes ago
2 - You also need Congress to pass a law.Agree. Remember, though, that a Romney victory means
- the Mexico City policy
- repeal of Obamacare
- lowering tax rates
- 1-2 SCOTUS justices (at least)
- trillions of dollars “parked” will be invested. No reason that we can’t have a “Reagan turnaround” in 2 years (maybe less).
For the 1000 time: STATES are allowed to do whatever they want (within certain limits). The FEDERAL GOVT is entirely different.Ironic considering mandated health care coverage was first instituted by Romney as governor of Massachusetts. As if Romney needs more money.
I will say a prayer for those who believe that the end justifies the means. May God forgive their lust for power and lack of charity.I am saying a prayer of remembering and gratitude today for a family member who went into bankruptcy due to an illness, for all the families that will now be able to get health care access without going bankrupt, for the children and adults who no longer can be denied insurance due to pre-existing conditions, for the seniors who won’t have to skip medications because they are now more affordable, for the people who will no longer have their premiums jacked up once they get sick until they can’t afford their insurance anymore, for the small businesses who will get tax credits to help them afford insurance for their employees, for the hundreds of thousands who have died in the US for lack of health care access in the old, dark days before health care reform, and for the cause of putting American’s basic health and health care ahead of profits.
Please explain how this law is fascist.OK, fine. Fascist, then![]()
It coopts private industry in service to the state. Please explain how this law is fascist.
Malta has free, nationalized, publicly-funded health care available to all, paid for by taxes.I really wish Vatican City had enough regular apartments for all of us Faithful Catholics who do not want this Obama care…
Anyone want to move to Malta?
:crying:
ObamaCare is one-size-fits-all. RomneyCare was created for Massachusetts and Romney has said there are things he would change. RomneyCare did not raise taxes, ObamaCare raises taxes by $500 billion.Ironic considering mandated health care coverage was first instituted by Romney as governor of Massachusetts. As if Romney needs more money.
There are more Dem senators up for reelection than Rep, and by a good margin. Romney wins, he will have Congress and the Presidency2 - You also need Congress to pass a law.
Agree completely. Ryan wants to cut 1 trillion.3 - Lowering taxes without lowering spending just means the taxes will be collected through inflation and paid by our children.
Because if Ginsberg and Bryer (sp?) retire, it will give SCOTUS a 7-2 conservative majority (and yes, didn’t help us much in the short run, this time4 - 5 of the current justices are Republican appointees. Roberts was appointed by George W. Bush. Why would you think more justices means anything?
20+ million jobs say hi. And he had a Dem Congress.5 - Under Reagan the government was hugely expanded and nothing was eliminated as he campaigned. Regan is myth. The Republicans can never seem to actually accomplish anything while the Democrats seem to always ultimately get what they want.
This makes me think of my struggling MIL. She busts her bum cleaning houses. I highly doubt she will fall under the income limit for one adult. I’ve gone over there before to find that she was eating canned beans for the week because she’s struggling to make ends meet. Now she suddenly has to figure out how to buy health insurance in 2014. :nope:A single individual who has a full time minimum wage job will already be over the guidelines. Nice.
I totally agree. It will also energize the Independants. They do not like this mandate anymore than the Republicans do.Apart from the merits of the policy, I think, politically speaking, this decision will energize the Republican base. I also believe that if the mandate, or parts of it, had been struck down, that would have energized Obama supporters. So, the GOP defeat on Obama health care may actually help Romney’s bid for President. (Of course, it may also have exactly the OPPOSITE effect!)
Fascist economics: The economic policy of the state cartelizing industry sectors and bringing it under state control. Fascism encourages businesses to make a profit, but its economic activity should be for the greater national interest. Please explain how this law is fascist.
Throwing around terms like this that look cute on a bumper sticker do not constitute a cogent argument.
I agree with the Bishops. There are things that must be repaired, but I am not in favor of a total repeal because the “bad guy” proposed it.
Hhhhmmmm, that could put a lot of Democrats in a sticky situation before an election. Vote to uphold massive middle class tax vs. Vote to overturn massive middle class tax.I just heard that Obamacare can be repealed by budget reconciliation because it is a tax
THANK YOU. This is exactly what I was thinking and couldn’t really put it into words. If he would’ve just upheld the constitutionality of the commerce clause argument I would be thinking differently. But I think there’s a lot more going on in his head. I’m not willing to say he isn’t taking a gamble here, it could backfire on him. But I think he’s has a plan here, if it works the way he hopes it will.I was telling my husband that this isn’t all bad. The shiny object is the individual mandate, but I think the more vital vote was the medicaid one. The fact that states do NOT have to expand their medicaid programs for those in the middle will force the hand of legislators to address costs at the very least. And single payer, based on this decision, is not in sight, imho. Though it seems like a defeat, I believe that it is a brilliant move and that Roberts, being the “vanilla” swing vote, has a view that is deeper than I think we realize. I think he is a man who can see the longterm consequences of his decisions. No need to start rhetoric now…hold back, now is not the time for it. As a Catholic who votes R usually (not always but 90% of the time) I see this as not being as terrible as others may make it out (or as glorious as liberals make it out).
Excellent. Day 1 of the new Congress.I just heard that Obamacare can be repealed by budget reconciliation because it is a tax
