Also people forget Joe PAterno (even though the scandal kind of tainted him), and i’m pretty sure quite a few Notre Dame coaches (at least older ones like Rockne and Dan Devine, was surprised Ara Parseghian wasn’t). Also, Charlie Weiss at Kansas received the last rights after weight loss surgery. I’m sure there are plenty moreFor college football fans who didn’t know, Bo & Carl Pelini are Catholic, as well as the Stoops brothers (Bob, Mike, & Mark).
Saw Kim Novak’s name in the pic. She used to go to my mother’s catholic church.Well we know Alfred Hitchcock was. I was in CA a few weeks ago on vacation and visited the San Juan Bautista mision (LOVED it!) and saw the diplay for Vertigo which was filmed there.

If I can be permitted to illustrate a little intramural pagan dialogue:I believe it was Marc Barnes who mentioned that Mark Wahlberg has the forearms of Thor.![]()
I remember many catholic references and subplots on Lost. I also remember seeing a making of documentary and the had a priest on set. I thought JJ Abrams might be catholic, but it turns out he’s jewish. I wonder who brought this to the show?Forgive me if this has already been brought up…
I’ve been watching CSI:NY for a while now, and the last 3 episodes have had subtle pro-catholic references: a character waking up from a coma while his girlfriend was praying the rosary, a line"it’d be easier to get an audience from the pope than to see you", and a story line involving St. Aiden.
I know Gary Sinese (star and producer) is Catholic.

raises hand I knew that! Bo is Nebraka’s coach. Carl used to coach with him, but was offered a Head Coaching job somehwere in Florida. They all went to a Catholic school in Ohio called Cardinal Mooney High. For college football fans who didn’t know, Bo & Carl Pelini are Catholic, as well as the Stoops brothers (Bob, Mike, & Mark).
There are plenty of great Catholics, some have been mentioned, most of those mentioned have questionable pasts (or presents). However our obsession with celebrity, wealth and particularly fame filters our view. Sargent Shriver was a great Catholic. But he doesn’t bring the same pizzazz as “Marky Mark”… but there are plenty of great Catholics who are not celebrated.PS… let me add that, when I first came across this thread, I had hoped that, by learning more about which famous people were Catholic, I might find some public role models to help me in my ongoing quest become a better person than I am today. Who knows? Maybe I still will. When it comes to learning how to be a good person and a good Catholic, I know that I am an imperfect person on a lifelong journey.
He doesn’t exactly advertise it, but the “king of Queens” is a Catholic family man.
Kevin James, who played Doug Heffernan for nine seasons on the CBS sitcom and has since branched out into movies, has no problem talking about his values and how it affects his career.
“I am involved in my faith, it becomes more and more — you know, it becomes a difficult, difficult position. You have a platform and you don’t want to do anything that doesn’t glorify God in every way,” James told Catholic News Service in a telephone interview from Philadelphia.
“I can’t play a priest in every film, either. You definitely want to have a positive message. I want to be able to sit and watch my movies with my children,” added James, who is married with two daughters and one son. Having control over and writing the material, according to him, is a key to “be inspiring and (to) move people in a positive way.”
James, 47, is promoting his upcoming film comedy, “Here Comes the Boom.” In it, he plays a high school science teacher who once loved his work but has “lost his mojo,” as he put it, but gets it back when budget cuts threaten the job of the music teacher (Henry Winkler), who never lost his love for teaching.
James’ character even goes so far as to train to be a mixed martial arts fighter — which James did in real life to prepare for the movie — in the belief that even a loser’s payday in such a bout will reap the bucks necessary to save the music program.
It’s not that James admits to some road-to-Damascus moment that made his faith all the more relevant to him. “I was born and raised Catholic and absolutely love my faith and learn more and more about it all the time,” he said. “It’s nice to have that going into whatever you do, whatever part of life you take upon yourself.”
That’s absolutely awesome.Actor Kevin James. From Catholic News Service:
Gary Sinese will be coming back to Walt Disney World this Christmas to read the Christmas story. It’s a show called the Candlelight Processional and it is a tradition both at Disneyland in CA and in FL. Celebrity narrators read the Scripture while a massed choir of cast members and local HS students sing carols to fit the parts of the narration. Mr. Sinese has participated a number of times and you can tell by the way he approaches it that it means a great deal to him.Forgive me if this has already been brought up…

CSI:Miami is explicit about Horatio and Eric both being Catholic; there was even a scene in one episode a while back with Horatio in the Confessional.Forgive me if this has already been brought up…
