Sweden defends no lockdown plan; says coronavirus immunity growing

The amount of cases and deaths estimated under the circumstances (no lockdown) were initially higher, but that didn’t materialize.
The article I posted above says the opposite.

The head of Sweden’s no-lockdown coronavirus plan said the country’s heavy death toll ‘came as a surprise’

Yeah, this is an attempt to cherry pick the data to make Sweden look like a success, when in fact it’s been a failure

Failure… How so?
Early cases bgan appearing at the start of March in Sweden and its neighbors.
Norway and Sweden hit 1000 cases in mid-March, Finland a week later.
Now, in deaths per million population Norway has 40, Finland 49, and Sweden 319.
Up to eight-fold higher deaths is a large failure. Notwithstanding all of the prior knowledge and time to prepare, Sweden is closing in on Spain and Italy.

This only shows short-term data.

Experts also have said without immunity, deaths continue.

So although Sweden’s curve is steeper, other countries who have less immunity, sooner or later catch up.

If you are supporting more extreme Government lockdowns, you don’t gain in viral infections, but you do postpone it.

But with more extreme government lockdowns, more of the economy gets destroyed resulting in not only deaths, but suffering as well.

Sweden is closing in on Spain and Italy.
Their medical system is not broken. That was the pretext for the severe lockdowns.

Not to avoid getting virus infections.

No, it doesn’t as the estimated cases and deaths predicted were a lot higher than the present numbers are.

You realize we can’t be under lockdown for months on end and that we are still a way aways from having a vaccine.

We are going to be living with this for awhile.

Most jurisdictions are easing. But if you think Sweden’s approach is the right one, you feel there are people who need to be sacrificed

No, I just think every country has differing demographics and geographical issues that merit differences in strategies.

There are several on this thread and others that are not.
The only one on this thread I saw was a joke. “An estimate of what the Imperial College model would have predicted for Sweden…” Some random applying the UK model, a model for the UK conditions and population, to their own interpretation of how it would look for Sweden. You can’t expect us to believe that. Since you haven’t posted any, I’ll assume it isn’t there.

So really they’re just getting rid of expendable people
How are you drawing such conclusions?

People can stay holed-up if they want.

If that is such great protection why are you worried about others that want normalcy? Just stay holed-up.

But sooner or later when they come out of hibernation, they have to go out into the world and face the virus,
or turn around and go back inside.

Sweden in the meantime is out and about. Developing “societal” antibody.

The idea is to hold off the infection and death rate until the clever scientists have some sort of treatment or vaccine.
No. That was not the “idea”. At least when this began.

The “idea” we were told, was to flatten the curve so we don’t overwhelm our healthcare system.

The curve was flattened, the healthcare system was not overwhelmed in America, and it’s time to get back to life.

If you want to remain in hibernation, by all means do so.

Less so than the Spain, France, Italy, UK
Plus NY and NJ

We aren’t ‘remaining in hibernation’. We are coming out in increments. It’s not feasible to just go straight back in one movement. That has shown to lead to second more devastating waves.
