i am NOT Slamming your country. Sheesh. You are welcome to slam Australia, we have our faults, as does every country. And if we do, we need to hear them. We need to hear the opinion of those who are looking in. However, do not assume I am slamming your country.

I think it egotistical to think we have evolved into better societies than our fathers. History is should be neither whitewashed or demeaned. You disrespect many saints with that attitude.

Oh please, I am not whitewashing or demeaning any historical events. History does a wonderful job of doing that itself. It doesn’t need our help. History is written by the victors. Look at what happens when a minority, a vanquished , a conquered, an unjustly accused, a scapegoat, tries to write history.

It is not egotistical to think we are and should be building better societies then those who lived before us, to learn from their mistakes, to maximise and work on what worked in those societies.

Disrespecting the saints is a ridiculous accusation. Because many saints attempted to deal with violence by peace. Peaceful action. Look at the murder of Saint Oscar Romero. He was saying Mass, he knew the dangers. He did not have a gun at his hip, ready to whip it out and shoot at threats. And He was a very outspoken person against the horror being committed in El Salvador. He told the soldiers to stop killing. That great and courageous saint knew he was a target.

Look at the early christian martyrs. All saints, murdered for refusing to worship false gods starting with the Emperors.

btw I did not say we have evolved into better societies, because we haven’t. I said we SHOULD have a better Construct for society. So please don’t deconstruct my words into something more convenient to claim as egotistical

You are correct, I misread an article.

“Eleven people were killed and at least six more were injured – including four police officers – when a gunman opened fire at a Pittsburgh synagogue Saturday morning, authorities said.”

I thought the officers had died. It’s not clearly written.

This is why I carry at Mass. It’s only a matter of time and place when this happens to us.
My parish recently hired a sheriff’s deputy for Mass. That tells me that those who can carry should. If you need security then the individual needs to protect himself.
And pray also that they know how to shoot a gun with utter precision so that innocent parishioners do not get injured or killed in the crossfire of a crowded church setting.
The same prayer would be for the police. Many non police who carry are better trained and more practiced than police. A key difference is a private citizen is liable if he harms someone whereas police ar not. For instance the police face no consequences from killing that Trader Joe’s worker in California. Had a private citizen killed her he would be held responsible.

Probably true, although opposing sides generally dropped their weapons on the battlefields when outdoor Mass was said, but I don’t know this for a fact.

My husband kept his weapon at Mass while deployed to combat zones but I don’t know if this holds true for all units.

It is a very sad state a country has gotten itself into when people have to carry weapons while worshipping God…
I am sure you will also now be contacting Pope Francis about the sad state of Swiss Guards carrying weapons during Masses for the last 512 years. Tell him tuscany says “Hi”.

The victims (11 deceased so far I found) and all injured and affected as well as the entire Pittsburg Jewish community are in my thoughts and prayers.
This is an anti-semitic crime. The shooter did not oppose general migration but he targeted HAIS who help Jewish immigrants and he said so. He even used scripture (NT) quotes to justify his demonic acts.
May the grace of God soothe the survivors and enlighten the leaders on what to do next.
Public exorcisms? What can stop this? What’s wrong with us people?
Our Father do not abandon Your children.

The thing is, most of us don’t feel we have to carry at Mass. The majority of us realize that these events are rare. From my viewpoint, if God wills I die at church, then so be it. None of us are getting out of here alive.

Thank heavens our Bishop has forbidden guns on church property. Honestly, I would not go to Mass if there were armed people there.

I have to ask, why is that? Are you worried that someone’s pistol would just go off or something? Serious question and just asking because the only time a pistol would ever come out is if someone tried to murder people in your church, in which case I don’t see where they could really make the problem worse. 🙂

It happened to that protestant Church in TX, it’s happened now at this Synagogue, we better say a prayer for our Catholic Churches and Schools that we are kept safe.

There was even some sort of incident at a Mormon place of worship but apparently, that was a personal matter… still, as tragic, perhaps, one person died but it was at the place of worship a few months ago.

There are probably many carrying without your knowledge. There are some people that never leave their home without a weapon. In many precincts, police officers are required to stay armed even when off duty.
