I am sure you are an expert at discourse on the history of the Swiss Guards and the reason the Papacy required and still requires protection. Although a blade is no match for a gun, good thing Pope Francis has armed guards and a Pope Mobile… after that incident with Saint Pope John Paul 11

I am sure you will now expound on this history…

In 2012 do you know how many non-law enforcement people actually shot a bad guy? There were 310 justifiable homicides.

Two years later, here are the CDC statistics on accidental gun deaths

Actual training how to use a gun to protect people is a professional skill, the professionals hone their skills through constant training. My godfather is a SWAT cop. Last thing that the law enforcement community want is a bunch of people firing who do not know what they are doing.

It really is not like on TV.

Plenty of non police train more and are more proficient with a firearm than police. And police kill plenty of innocent bystanders, like the Trader Joe’s worker in California. The biggest difference is police face virtually no accountability if they wrongly kill an innocent person. The state has sovereign immunity. Law enforcement, like any profession, wants to limit who can do their job to those in the guild.

It’s not rocket science Roseeurekacross, and folks here know Papal history. True, those blades, though very deadly, are not a gun. Thankfully, there ARE Swiss Guards with concealed guns. You were the one that said it was a very sad state when a country has to have people carry weapons while worshipping God. I was just stating a fact that the Vatican has had people carry weapons while worshipping God for 512 years. Am I giving you fake news here?

Back when the antifa people were committing acts of public disorder, conservative pundits, and posters here, had no problem lumping all liberals together. Now that we have a racist shooter and political bomber in the same week, what was said then needs repeating. Groups must not be judged by the actions of those who are on the fringe. Rather, those who committed crimes must be judged by their own actions.

A tragedy does not contribute much to good analysis, at least as an individual event.

Why is guarding the pope acceptable but guarding babies getting baptized, families, parish priests, or bishops not? Are armed police officers or security guards acceptable?

What is my point, in answering your question. (Without the ‘rhetoric’)

Because I do want to understand why you consider the pope’s safety to be more important than any other person. I am not sure any of our popes feels that way, and if they do, are they truly humble enough to lead us?

This, may be it means something far different, but it sounds as if you are casting less than noble intentions on the police.

There was a discussion the other day on another topic about how our justice system shouldn’t value one life different from another. As you point out there is armed security for the Pope. To say that regular folks have to specifically be unarmed and unprotected flies in the face of that idea. It isn’t just saying that ordinary folks aren’t worthy of Church paid for security. It is saying they can’t even protect themselves. This would be the worst kind of clericalism imaginable.

And to you, what is my point, before you change the topic of my point

Please clarify your point because perhaps I am misunderstanding you.

The police are men like everyone else. Just having that job doesn’t make them good people. There are good and bad people in their ranks. It is human nature to protect your group. So the police protect themselves. That doesn’t make them bad. It makes them normal. But not being in the group it is wise for me to keep that in mind.

I don’t know your point and am not intending to respond to it. I’m presenting a general idea.

Yes. Quite a few of you who have commented are, completely bypassing my point. It’s flying over your heads so to speak.

Please re read my posts, if and when you have time
