But honestly everywhere in the world has something.
That’s no better an excuse than someone saying, “Yeah, I struggle with X, but everyone does!” It’s just on a much larger scale.

Furthermore, many other countries don’t have this problem and see the constant news of shootings in America and constant rhetoric of “we need protection” as a sign that America is unsafe, because they don’t have to deal with that in their own country. People in America need to seriously consider why we’re almost uniquely like that among well-developed Western countries. And if it isn’t really that bad - after all, I don’t generally worry about gun violence - then why is fear and paranoia used so much in pro-gun rhetoric?

I wasn’t meaning it as an excuse.

I do think you are wrong though. We are in no shortage of immigrants trying to get here.

I do think you are wrong though.
Except for the fact I’ve talked to people from other countries who range from baffled at how many shootings we have to terrified to come here for fear they’ll get shot. Granted, many think it is worse than it actually is, but I’m not sure they’re too different from many Americans in that regard on both sides.

Never said “rampant”. My point is one has a better chance of shooting oneself or someone else than of shooting down a bad guy.

Which diocese is this?
I did a quick search and found Dallas/Fort Worth, with limited exceptions; Atlanta, with opt out options; and Savannah, with opt out options.
Would yours be one of these three?

I don’t care about the methodology of the article. I am sure it is impeccable. I’ve got another breaking statistic. Households with 2 or more children are more likely than households without children to suffer from seasonal illnesses. This increases exponentially for every additional child in the household. Homeowners with stairs are more likely to trip than homeowners without stairs. Families with a backyard pool are more likely to suffer a drowning death than families without pools. I can come up with all kinds of irrelevant statistics. If you want to argue for gun control on the basis of suicide rates go ahead. It is simply not a convincing argument to anyone whom you are attempting to convince. Suicide is a mental health issue. Trying to eliminate all possible methods with legal restrictions on constitutional rights isn’t going to fly.

Despite the fact that suicide is a mental health issue, it can be mitigated by the availability of the means. It is very relevant in the debate on gun control. Would you like to see the data on how availability affects outcome?

Not comfortable with talking about my location online:) As you can see there are Dioceses who have this published, others who do not advertise it online but simply notify every parish and school and priest, etc.

The thing is, often you don’t have to kill or even shoot the bad guy to have stopped a crime with a gun. Sometimes just pulling it out is enough to make the bad guy run away, at which point one is no longer permitted to shoot at him.

Perhaps one of the reasons we don’t have more problems is that so many have guns?

True example: county in rural area of US where my friend used to live. Very low crime rate because almost everyone hunted, so almost every household had at least 1 gun.

My friend was “protected” by living in the midst of all these gun owners even tho she herself did not have a gun.

This county took about a hour to drive from one end to the other and 45 minutes across in a perpendicular way. There were often only 2 police officers on duty at a time.

If there was an accident at one end of the county, aside from preparing to leave, it could take up to an hour for the police to respond. Luckily, due to the presence of a lot of guns by good guys, there was little attraction to do bad things in the area.

Well regulated militia. You know, potato potahto.
This concept of the people’s self-regulation, that is, non-governmental regulation, is also in keeping with the limited grant of power to Congress “for calling forth” the militia for only certain, limited purposes, to “provide for” the militia only certain limited control and equipment, and the limited grant of power to the President regarding the militia, who only serves as Commander in Chief of that portion of the militia called into the actual service of the nation.
The “well regula[tion]” of the militia set forth in the Second Amendment was apart from that control over the militia exercised by Congress and the President, which extended only to that part of the militia called into actual service of the Union.

Thus, “well regula[tion]” referred to something else.

Since the fundamental purpose of the militia was to serve as a check upon a standing army, it would seem the words “well regulated” referred to the necessity that the armed citizens making up the militia(s) have the level of equipment and training necessary to be an effective and formidable check upon the national government’s standing army.

It is quite clear that the Founders used the phrase “well-regulated” to denote that militia forces should be skilled with arms of contemporary military utility and relevant military tactics, so that they can serve in the defense of Republic against both foreign invaders and the threat of domestic tyrants commanding a national army against the liberty of the citizenry.

You may think this is the reason for low crime in rural areas, but there is another more logical explanation. Rural areas with low population density and where most people know their neighbors personally always has lower crime, whether or not the people have guns. That’s just human nature.

I live in an area with relatively low gun ownership. There isn’t a lot of gun violence here. In fact, we have a low violent crime rate relative to our population.

Average yearly death statistics to consider:
  • 32,885 auto accidents
  • 10,839 drunk driving
  • 1,817 knives
  • 674 blunt objects
  • 453 rifles
  • 18 military style assault rifles
Guns are safer than many things we use on a daily basis. Nobody would say we should ban automobiles.

The best way to stop a bad guy with a gun is: a good guy with a gun.

The Leftist media is trying to somehow blame President Trump, of all people, and they’re even calling him Anti-Semitic, of all things!
  • One of President Trump’s favorite people in the entire world is his daughter, Ivanka, a convert to Judaism
  • President Trump was the first American President in decades to ACTUALLY recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel
  • President Trump has a 90% approval rating in Israel
  • Netanyou said that Trump is the President who is the greatest friend of Israel.
This is why we call the Leftist News “Fake News.”
