Love is the season that makes bitter things sweet. . .
Thank you for sharing all of these. I’m not sure if Thomas A Kempis is a saint or not, but I really like both of those quotes and I’m glad that you posted them here. I have previously posted quotes from the late great Archbishop Fulton Sheen, and I know that he hasn’t been canonized a saint, but I thought the quotes were worth sharing. There are many quotes from Mother Teresa, Pope John Paul ll, Chesterton and many others who aren’t officially saints, but I’d like to post quotes from them here because of their relevance, and maybe I’ll still end up doing that. Thanks so much Saint Wannabe for this thread and for getting back to all of us! I am not good at writing or articulating my thoughts so I always feel a little embarrassed when posting. It is so nice when someone responds with such kindness. I think you are already a saint, saint Wannabe!
Thanks 4 the kind words, and I’m not Mr articulate myself many times, but I try to get my point across. I would say most times I’m guilty of rambling on & being long winded on many of my posts, and thats why I enjoy this thread so much, because most of the time, I’m just posting quotes from saints and not carrying on. lol!!!
HAH!! Me a Saint??? I’m a bad example on how someone should live a good Christian life at best, but that doesn’t stop me from still trying. I believe that all of us have hope, as long as were still breathing.
There are just so many inspiring quotes here to read. I am really enjoying reading all of them.
Yeah, I’m kind of surprised at the way this thread has gone. Many people have shared some really great quotes & awe inspiring stories here, and I am very thankful for all of them.
I don’t have my books with the quotes anymore but I do have these two from My favorite author Thomas A. Kempis. Is he a saint?
“He who loves with purity considers not the gift of the lover, but the love of the giver.”
“Be not angry that you cannot make others as you wish them to be,
since you cannot make yourself as you wish to be.”
Also I love the psalms! My absolute favorite is psalm 139! Too long to post all of it but here is a part of it.
O Lord thou hast searched me and known me! Thou knowest when I sit down and when I rise up; thou discernest my thoughts from afar.
Thou searchest out my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.
Even before a word is on my tongue, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether.
Thou dost beset me behind and before, and layest thy hand upon me;
it is high, I cannot attain it.
Whither shall I go from thy Spirit? Or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
If I ascend to heaven, thou art there! If I make my bed in Sheol, thou art there!

Great quotes littletherese! I love that psalm too! Gives such peace of mind. We have “The Imitation of Christ” in our perpetual adoration chapel so I am very thankful to be able to pick it up and read from it whenever I am there.I LOVE Thomas A Kempis!! Here are my favourite quotes of his…
“No man appears more secure in public, than he who loves seclusion. No man can safely speak as he who loves to hold his peace. No man can securely govern, but he who willingly lives in subjection. No man commands with assurance, if he has not learned well to obey.”
“Jesus has now many lovers of His heavenly kingdom but few bearers of his cross.”
And for some more non-Saint ones (but who WILL be one day)
“To love means loving the unlovable. To forgive means pardoning the unpardonable. Faith means believing the unbelievable. Hope means hoping when everything seems hopeless.”
G. K. Chesterton.
“We have to offer ourselves as pencils. Let Him write poetry. Let Him write prose. Let Him scribble. What difference does it make? This is happiness.” Fulton Sheen
“We have to offer ourselves as pencils. Let Him write poetry. Let Him write prose. Let Him scribble. What difference does it make? This is happiness.” Fulton Sheen
“Show me your hands. Do they have scars from giving? Show me your feet. Are they wounded in service? Show me your heart. Have you left a place for divine love?” -Fulton Sheen
For what is dirt? Dirt is nothing but matter in the wrong place.
-Fulton Sheen
“Today Jesus had His arms extended to embrace you. Today Jesus’ Heart was opened to receive you. Were you there?”
-Mother Teresa
In comparison with the love of Jesus, everything else is secondary. And without the love of Jesus, everything else is useless.–Pope John Paul II
“Love is a mutual self-giving which ends in self-recovery.” -Fulton Sheen
“God has assigned as a duty to every man the dignity of every woman.” Pope John Paul II
“Truth is not determined by a majority vote.”
-Pope Benedict XVI
No man hates God without first hating himself. -Fulton Sheen
It is Jesus you seek when you dream of happiness. –Pope John Paul II
“A man of conscience is one who never acquires tolerance, well- being, success, public standing, and approval on the part of prevailing opinion, at the expense of truth.” Pope Benedict XVI
Never measure your generosity by what you give, but rather by what you have left. -Fulton Sheen
A nation that kills its own children is a nation without a future. - Pope John Paul II.
"Men do not differ much about what things they will call evils; they differ enormously about what evils they will call excusable." -Gilbert K. Chesterton

I love this! We should be simple. Reminds me of the Little Flower too. St. Vincent De Paul is also one of my favorites.“God in his nature is most simple and cannot admit any duplicity. If we then would be comfortable to Him, we should try to become by virtue what He is by nature. We should be simple in our affections, intentions, actions, and words; we should do what we find to do without artifice or guile, making our exterior comfortable to our interior. We should have no other object but God in our actions and seek to please Him alone in all things.”
Vincent De Paul
Yes, this requires a certain amount of theological understanding to graspOne of my favotie ones comes from St. Augustine. It throws people for a loop.
“Every man wants the good, even a thief.”
Fraternally,

Your analysis is that of a good Spiritual Theologian.Yes, this requires a certain amount of theological understanding to grasp. One has to understand that sin is a disorder of loves and affections. The thief is looking for his good in the wrong place.
Good quote!(hope I got all that right

Hey Lief, whats up??? First of all, I haven’t talked to you in a while, so I wanted to say Hi. Hi, lol!!!“In the bosom of the Immaculate the soul is reborn according to the likeness of Jesus Christ.”
~St. Maximilian Kolbe

I’ve been doing vocation search a good deal, looking for the right religious order to join. During my search yesterday, I came across some beautiful quotes from St. Maximilian and others here, at the website of the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate.Hey Lief, whats up??? First of all, I haven’t talked to you in a while, so I wanted to say Hi. Hi, lol!!!
Second of all, another Maximilian Kolbe quote, I love it!!! Where is everyone finding these quotes from him? Did he ever write any books? Its really quite amazing and awe inspiring when I think about all that he endured for the sake of a complete stranger. I need to strive harder to be more like him. Not only is he a great saint and a great example on how one should strive to live a good Christian life, I would put him at the top of my list, as far as real hero’s go, and a person in history that I would love to meet.
This is a great quote and a very important one in Franciscan history. This was part of a message that our Holy Mother sent to the order because of the excesses in corporal disciplines. She prohibitted excessive fasts, abstinances, the use of the discipline, hair shirts, and other things unless they were approve by both the spiritual director and the superior of the house. Mother was a great defender of reason and prudence in the ascetical life.“Our body is not made of iron. Our strength is not that of stone. Live and hope in the Lord, and let your service be according to reason. Modify your holocaust with the salt of prudence.”
Clare Of Assisi
I feel that here, St. Alphonsus captures the progression through the three stages of mystical life. First, there is the purgative (clinging to His feet), then the illuminative (kissing His hands), and finally the unitive (entering His Heart).“There are certain souls who desire to arrive at perfection all at once, and this desire keeps them in constant disquiet. It is necessary first to cling to the feet of Jesus, then to kiss his sacred hands, and at last you may find your way into his divine heart.”
Alphonsus Liguori
Amen!“In all your deeds and words you should look upon this Jesus as your model. Do so whether you are walking or keeping silence, or speaking, whether you are alone or with others. He is perfect, and thus you will be not only irreprehensible, but praiseworthy.”
Bonaventure
May we all be that man, through the intercession of Mary’s Heart, of our Guardian Angels, and our Patron Saints, in, through, and for the glory of Jesus Christ.“What, then does God look upon with pleasure and delight? What is He asking the Angels about, and even the devils? It is about the man who is fighting for Him against riches, against the world, hell, and himself, the man who is cheerfully carrying his cross.”
Louis-Marie De Montfort
Thank you for posting all of these friend, there is much wisdom to be found in all of these quotes. By the way, I found a really good quote from Maximilian Kolbe earlier and I’ll post it below. Here are some Marian quotes I found online:
“Mary alone gives to the unfortunate children of unfaithful Eve entry into that earthly paradise where they may walk pleasantly with God and be safely hidden from their enemies. There they can feed without fear of death on the delicious fruit of the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. They can drink copiously the heavenly waters of that beauteous fountain which gushes forth in such abundance.”
~St. Louis de Montfort
“If you put all the love of all the mothers into one heart it still would not equal the love of the Heart of Mary for her children.”
~St. Louis de Montfort
“When the Holy Spirit finds Mary in a soul, He enters that soul completely and communicates Himself completely to that soul.”
~St. Louis de Montfort
“Mary is the lily of God’s garden.”
~Bridget of Sweden
“No man is delivered or preserved from the worldwide snares of Satan save through Mary; and God grants His graces to no one except through her alone.”
~St. Germanus
“Jesus is the mediator of justice; Mary obtains for us grace; for . . . it is the will of God to dispense through the hands of Mary whatever graces He is pleased to bestow upon us. With God, the prayers of the saints are the prayers of His friends, but the prayers of Mary are the prayers of His mother.”
~St. Alphonsus Liguori
“Think of what the Saints have done for their neighbor because they loved God. But what Saint’s love for God can match Mary’s? She loved Him more in the first moment of her existence than all the Saints and angels ever loved Him or will love Him. Our Lady herself revealed to Sister Mary Crucified that the fire of her love was most extreme. If Heaven and earth were placed in it, they would be instantly consumed. And the ardors of the seraphim, compared with it, are like cool breezes. Just as there is not one among all the Blessed who loves God as Mary does, so there is no one, after God, who loves us as much as this most loving Mother does. Furthermore, if we heaped together all the love that mothers have for their children, all the love of husbands and wives, all the love of all the angels and Saints for their clients, it could never equal Mary’s love for even a single soul.”
~St. Alphonsus Liguori
“It is the privilege of the glory of Mary, that after God, our greatest happiness is from her.”
~St. Bonaventure
“Believe me, there is no more powerful means to obtain God’s grace than to employ the intercessions of the Holy Virgin.”
~St. Philip Neri
“Mary is the most sweet bait, chosen, prepared, and ordained by God, to catch the hearts of men.”
~St. Catherine of Siena
“No matter how sinful one may have been, if he has devotion to Mary, it is impossible that he be lost."
~St. Hilary of Poitiers
“Prayer is powerful beyond limits when we turn to the Immaculata who is queen even of God’s heart.”
~St. Maximilian Kolbe
“What a joy to remember that she is our Mother! Since she loves us and knows our weakness, what have we to fear?”
~St. Therese of Lisieux
“The world being unworthy to receive the Son of God directly from the hands of the Father, he gave his Son to Mary for the world to receive him from her.”
~Saint Augustine
“There is no danger of exaggerating. We can never hope to fathom this inexpressible mystery nor will we ever be able to give sufficient thanks to our Mother for bringing us into such intimacy with the Blessed Trinity.”
~St. Josemaria Escriva
