I am sure that if we had our firearms removed from us a la the Brits and the Australians, they would have the same level of and paranoia about knives, for example.
I disagree. The bad guy would actually have to get close to you and work hard to kill you. Guns give cowardly killers the luxury of distance.
“When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns”, is not merely a bumper sticker, but a statement of fact.
I’ve seen that bumper sticker and it always leaves out the police, the national guard, and our army. Why is that?
In my opinion, what is lacking in our society, is a general loss of the sense of outrage at what the thugs and outlaws have forced us to become.
Wow…I think I agree with you there.
A pox on all liberals.
Using a Shakespeare reference to bash liberals!? How elitist!👍

The reason I carry a gun is because a police officer is too heavy.

I’m not like the Hollywood anti-gun crowd who most are licensed to carry and can afford armed security. Hello Rosie O.

Just thought I’d post this for the heck of it.

Well said sir! You are exactly correct. Our dearly beloved Representatives from Sodom-on-the Bay (San Francisco) Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstein, are extremely anti-gun, but are both CCW holders. Hypocracy. IMO, Rosie O is protected by nature, like a skunk.

First off, most criminal shootings actually occur at very short distances since most occur inside rooms. So they are very close. However, I spent the summer in the UK this year and every day there were news reports of knife attacks. Someone there told me, and I did not confirm this, that knife attacks are 8 times more likely to occur in the UK than in the US.

Because it is referring to civilian owned arms!

I stood many a Shore Patrol watch, both in the states and overseas. And yes, I pulled many a sailor out of worse places than bars, for sure. We carried only nightsticks except when I was on Armed Forces Police (RAFP) in Okinawa, where we were armed with the .45cal pistol and 12GA shotguns.

Oh Please… Only people afraid of fire would use a smoke detector.
You seem to confuse prudence with fear. Two different things. There are probably people who have a rational need to carry a gun, and are not doing out out of fear. But then, when a person admits he carries a gun so as to not be afraid, one has to pity such a person.

Most people with a good appreciation of relative hazards, use seat belts, and don’t carry guns, and do not fear. The world for those few who must have a gun to not fear, must seem terrifying.

IMO, folks like Barbarian, those with the typical “liberal” mindset cannot stand the idea that there just may be another way of approaching life.
Two errors there. First, I normally vote libertarian. I recognize that there are people who are so frightened of their fellow man that they need to carry weapons to assuage the fear. I don’t hate them, I pity them.
They loathe and fear guns because they are unfamiliar with them
I grew up in a rural area, hunted, shot guns for pleasure, and was good enough that I had to only go to the range once to convince my TI that I could use a rifle effectively.

I still own two guns, mostly out of nostalgia, but my old bolt action .22 is the way I taught my sons and daughters to shoot and to observe gun safety.

Violent crime has declined precipitously in the last few decades. The homicide rate was much higher a hundred years ago, and much, much higher a few hundred years before that.
WHY to we have to create gulags of our schools?
We don’t. It turns out kids are safer in public schools than almost anywhere else. But it’s not about the kids, is it?
Why are we even discussing the necessity of teachers carrying guns?
Because some people are ideologically so fixed on their own agenda that they don’t care about the actually level of hazard.
Because the yahoo culture has taken over. I say this, look at the takeover of our cities by gangs. I would like to see an outraged, decent populace issue a warning to these scum and then start decorating the lampposts with festive gangbangers. There are still more of us than there are of them and I’ll bet the forces of light would prevail. Extreme? Yup.
This is the sort of irrational and self-destructive fear that is seen in people who must have a gun to not be afraid. Ironically, as society has become safer, some people have reacted to it the way an alcoholic regards the closing of more and more taverns.

I think the point is that you confuse prudence with fear. Specifically, many here explain why they carry a handgun only to have you label them as doing out of fear. FYI - That is too close to calling someone a coward and is usually considered rude. Better to take people at face value.

The great thing about the right to bear arms is those like you who see no need can simply not carry a gun. Those that do see a need, for example, if you taught in this school district, can arm themselves. It’s a free country, for now.

Exactly. Sir Knight explained himself quite well, Barbarian seems to want to belabor the point. Fine, if you do not feel the need to be prepared, then do not carry or even own a gun. Hopefully, if the lives and safety of you or yours is ever threatened, someone better prepared will come to your aid.
BTW, a bolt-action .22 is not nearly enough gun to take out your average thug, unless you get a good head shot. No stopping power.😛

The state of Florida had a rash of tourist assaults and murders. Turns out that the cars that they drove were clearly marked as rentals and that the occupant were likely from out of state. Easy victims. Well, the State made the rental car agencies stop identifying their cars as rentals. The incidence of assaults and murders on tourists dropped precipitously. Why? Because now the thugs could not differentiate between tourists and **the locals who more than likely were armed. **Voila! Doncha just love it? “An armed society is a polite society.”

Then why do YOU not have a problem with Big Government interfering with a law-abiding citizens rights under the Second Amendment?

Goofyjim,
You are well named.🤷
Well under this ridiculous school district all we need is for a teacher to lose his cool and start shooting with the children having no way to defend themselves. We can think of better ways than this stupid idea.

Well, just to go along with your line of reasoning, let’s just give all the kids guns too. That’ll take care of those goofy teachers.

That is not my line of reasoning. Find a way to keep the guns out of schools. Don’t arm the teachers and scare the wits out of the children. I would homeschool any children for that reason alone.
