Why do I say that because it has happened on another thread. It was about bad service and tipping I said in Texas if we get bad service we just shoot’em. Everybody on the thread knew it was a joke but one person got upset about it.

Massachusetts: 203,302 Concealed Handgun Permits, assuming that the Boston Globe reported correctly.
Speak of people carrying concealed handguns rates in Texas to someone in the anti-gun state of Massachusetts and I am sure that they would be viewed as examples of the dangerous wild west. So who has more concealed handgun permits per capita? Texas or Massachusetts? Texas has 22.9 million people and 247,345 permits. For Massachusetts, which has 6.4 million people, the numbers are quite high: “In Massachusetts, 203,302 residents were licensed to carry concealed weapons as of August, according to the state Criminal History Systems Board.” Texas would have to have over 726,000 permits to have the same rate of issuance.
By the way, the Brady Campaign gives Massachusetts a “B+” for its concealed carry system, but it gives Texas a “D”.

Because of some very stupid laws a mad-dog predator who knew it was against the law to carry a gun murdered a lot of good people.
I don’t know where you live but you’re safer around trained armed law abiding citizens then you are by armed criminals and wacko’s like that mad dog that murdered all those good people.
We Texans are much safer now since the passing of our CHL laws.

Don’t let some of these guys mislead you. Texas is mostly made up of good people who never commit mass murder, or carry concealed weapons out of paranoid fear. Roughly 25 million people in Texas, with less than 250,000 CHL licensees, and many of them have legitimate professional or other reasons to carry them.
It’s not a bunch of armed loonies here. The murder rate is a lot higher in Texas than in most states, but not as bad as you might expect from these news stories.

My dh has been on business trips in a past job to Houston, and loved loved loved it. He said if we weren’t moving to Florida last year, he would have opted for Texas.
He always sings that silly song…all of my ex’s are in Texas.

Texas has a murder rate of 5.9 per 100,000. The national average is 5.7 based on 2006 data. It should also be noted that the Texas murder rate is down from previous years, while the national average rose from 5.5 to 5.6 to 5.7 between 2004 and 2006.
For reference, Florida is 6.2 (again using 2006 data)

Because they have been brainwashed by the liberal establishment media to believe that the “government” will protect them against any and all danger. They are shocked to find out that the police have NO obligation to protect them. The police make out the incident report when it’s all over. Very seldom do they ever “prevent” crimes against the person, they cannot be everywhere at once. Unless a thug is extraordinarily stupid, they will seldom commit a crime such as assault in the presence of a police officer. That leaves…just you.

Actually, the national murder rate, which dropped significantly in the 90s, has been pretty much flat for about 8 years. Texas was higher than average all but one of those years, in which it was the same as the national average.

While murder rates are much lower in states without a death penalty, that correlation does not necessarily mean that the death penalty causes murders to rise. It is possible that states where life is not valued as highly as other states, would have both more murders, and be more inclined to kill prisoners.

Yeah, it’s a good place to live. If he loved Houston, he would be madly in love with the rest of the state. Houston is pretty much as bad as it gets.
San Antonio is pretty close to perfection in a lot of ways. Dallas is a bit plastic, but there are splendid places to be found in the older areas, if you know where to look.
And El Paso is a world unto itself. All great places.
