As always I accept the authority of the Church in these matters. On the one hand, we have two Mormon candidates who by all appearances are good examples of men who are loyal to their families. On the other hand, we have a Catholic candidate who has been married three times, has been living with a mistress while he was married, and who has abandoned his first wife when it was suspected that she had cancer. Further he has been cited for ethics violations. I don’t see this as a particularly good example for people to follow, do you? As far as this marriage annulment business is concerned, if his wife was not suspected of having cancer and he did not divorce her and remarry, this question of invalidity never would have come up. Can anyone please tell me how marrying three times and having a mistress while you are married is in the spirit of the Commandment of Our Divine Lord: What God has joined together, let no man put asunder?
