To be honest, stuff like Code Geass often strike me as uber tragic. I’m more of a slice-of-life type of person. And as much as I loathe admitting this (as in I become akin to a male tsundere), I’m a huge sap for high-school anime romances. Stories like Ichigo 100%, Clannad, Kare Kano, Midori Days, Full Metal Panic, and (most recently) Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu…ugh, I can’t help it… so sweet… TwT

Now I wouldn’t recommend any of these to those on here but sighs nothing gets me in a hopeless romantic mood better than this stuff. TwT
You forgot to add Love Hina, Fruits Basket, FLCL, School Rumble, Shuffle, Chobits etc etc etc… 😃 There’s plenty of those to come around and back.

It just amazes me how diverse my anime palate has grown throughout these years.

Genshiken is very good, both as a mirror of otaku culture and as a slice of life/romance series. 🙂

ANYway, LS was just…adorable. Konata as just too funny.
Yeah she’s the best. 😃
Here’s one of my favorite parts. XD
Head of Genshieken, have not seen it. You’ll soon see that while I know a lot about different anime, I’ve really seen very little. In fact, I’m pretty sure this thread would run me out if I listed off the anime I HAVEN’T seen
Don’t worry. While I’ve heard and seen a lot of anime and manga, I have yet to finish any of them. >_<;; (Manga especially since a majority of what I read are mainstream, ongoing series: e.g. Naruto, Soul Eater, Fairy Tail)

Oh it is. But I love it for it. I’m an angst magnet. I mean, come on- my favorite series is about the Biblical apocalypse where no less than half the cast dies. Unless it’s the movie. In which case, EVERYONE dies.
Evangelion?!
End of Evangelion?!
If so, it’s also one of my favorite series. 🙂

Ugh, I wanted to mention those too but the fact is I know so many romance animes that if I listed them all, I’d be filling a whole page. >w<;;

Honestly, it’s the one genre that rivals action shonen in my mental library. :o

No, fraid not…have not even seen NGE
Comes close to your description though.
NGE :
impending pseudo biblical apocalypse — check 👍
Half of the population dies — somewhat true, so check.
End of Evangelion (OVA)
Pseudo biblical apocalypse happens - check 👍
Everyone dies — Shinji reduces everyone to a sea of LCL save for Asuka. So it pretty much hits the description. 😉

Anyway, going back to the (http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=158388&show=0), I was pleasantly surprised to see my favorite comedic magical princess Cha Cha on the 11th spot in the 90s list. I enjoyed watching Akazukin Chacha when it was shown by Cartoon Network(S.East Asia) in the Philippines when I was growing up. 🙂

No, the series I was referring to was X commence booing me off the stage But I’m interested in giving NGE a shot.

Ah, that girl’s so adorable! Is that a take on Red Riding Hood or something?

ohhh, never got to watch X so I wasn’t familiar with it. The only Clamp anime i’ve watched are Rayearth, Cardcaptor Sakura and xxxHolic.

Akazukin Cha Cha’s not exactly a take on little red riding hood although it incorporates a lot of fairy tale elements in it’s story. It’s more of a comedic magical girl anime, with slapstick humor akin to Azumanga Daioh. It’s the story of a red-hooded young girl Cha Cha who’s an apprentice of the greatest (and most eccentric) sorcerer in the land Seravi. It tells of the story of airheaded Cha Cha and her friends Riiya, a strong boy who transforms into a were-puppy and Shiine, the straight edged and naive apprentice of Seravee’s rival and love interest Dorothy. The gang is also composed of a motley kiddie group of other fairy tale characters. In addition the anime, contrary to the manga, incorporates a magical princess element in which Cha Cha transforms into one and fights the baddies. This bogged down the story a bit in my opinion. 🙂

Interestingly, if you’ve been following Death Note and you’re a big fan of L, he considers the Akazukin Cha Cha manga a masterpiece in the light novel Death Note Another Note: The Los Angeles BB Murder Cases. 🙂

Here’s a pic of the ensemble cast of Akazukin Cha Cha.🙂

Sigh, I miss 90s cartoons. I feel bad for the kids growing up with today’s Disney Channel/Nickelodeon shows. In that line of thinking, I miss watching Animaniacs which I still think is infinitely better than the simpsons.

Tokyo Babylon and X are two of CLAMP’s best works, IMO. To bad X has bene on hiatus for 7 years has a sad

Ah, I like magical girl series, And this one looks really different

LOL!! I watched that too. It was probably the first anime I ever saw on Cartoon Network. XD
As far as CLAMP is concerned, I’m embarrassed to admit that Chobits was the only seinen they produced that I liked.

Then again, I’m a guy and it is the only guy-oriented title they have ever produced. >.>;;;
Regardles, Chi-chan FTW!!! >w<

Actually, although X is shoujo, it has a giant seinen peripheral demographic. Most people I reccomend read it are actually really shocked when I tell them this tale of the end of the world, complete with the anti christ, dragons, copious amounts of gore, self sacrifice, crucifictions, beheadings, humanitarianism, envioromentalism and swords is a shoujo.

In addition, Angelic Layer, Tsubasa and Holic are all shounen and seinen.

Chobits…I didn’t care much for, but this was mostly the artwork and too much fanservice. And I can handle a lot of fanservice.

Actually in the end it has a moral very similar to Twilight without the other things that made that vampire novel suck.

However, with regards to fan service, I’m probably more tolerant than you. :o
I do draw lines though. It’s one reason why, despite finding the story interesting… Ikki Tousen is seriously waaay over the top (both the manga and anime). >_>;;

There’s a moral to Twilight? hahaha :rolleyes:

About X, I’ve heard that it was very promising until the mangaka went on hiatus. I’ll try to check out the manga. 🙂 Thanks for reminding me about it Shondrea.

What’s bad about the X hiatus is that it left out on THE climax of the entire series. Not just the climatic chapter or scene, but THE very moment the entire 18.5 volumes were leading up to o.0

But I just breed the movie ending and anime ending together and fill in the blanks.

Hmm…Perhaps I should give Chobits another try? I quit about halfway through, but I have heard the ending picks things up a bunch

Well I was broswing through anime some time ago looking for refrences to practice drawing with and I found this. I was like “No way! Awesome!” What do you think?

I think I may have seen that before… their take on it was typically evangelical but the style was cute. :\
Yeah but I still wanna check it out. Though I dont agree with the Virgin Mary looking like the typical anime teen girl.
