I used to be one of those ignorant souls, and to be honest, I have learned about the Scripturesmore in my 9 months as a Catholic than I did in 15 years as a Protestant. Granted I memorized more, but it took my conversion to CAtholicism to really LEARN it.
If you would of allowed the Holy Spirits guidance I don’t think you would of converted. I think you are still ignorant. Tell me what you have learned in the last 9 months, to bash those that don’t believe as you do?

This is a very ignorant statement. There are Catholics who know scripture very well! I will not condemn a man/or woman who left a denomination because they were not being properly taught the word of God. Even if they became Catholic. Who do you think glorifies God more: Mother Teresa who help the lowest cast of Indian society and game many hope, or Jimmy Swaggart who derides the Catholic Church and sleeps with prostetutes? Swaggart claims to be lead by the Holy Spirit but look at him. You’re problem is you don’t believe that CATHOLICS ARE CHRISTIAN! They are. And if you knew anything about the Mass or the Liturgy of the Hours or any other Catholic devotion you will find scripture again and again and again. For shame.

I’m not Catholic and I will gladly take up any challenge you have agianst them.

My response was to cwbetts. He starts ranting about anti-catholics. I was not the one that used ignorant first. We will all stand before the throne of God, even Jimmy Swaggart and will be judged accordingly. Jimmy Swaggart did admit and confess to his sin. I’m not going to mention here what your leaders do to little boys. Did I just hear moderator!! My honey is catholic and and would never go on a rant like y’all. He is a true christian.

That kind of generalization is completely out of line and has no place here. Sexual abuse by any sort of clergy should be grieved over, not used to play gotcha. Shame on you.

Tell that to SAMBOS, GOTCHA started with his post. Jimmy Swaggart I’m sure is paying dearly for his mistake/mistakes. To me same generalization. Sin is sin. Can we both agree that we should also grieve and pray for Jimmy Swaggart?

This is rediculous. I spent time in prayer and study. I used to be an adherent to anti-Catholicism myself. If you want me to pick out some profound explanation of a single verse, it won’t happen. Catholics look at the Bible as a whole, we see how everything works together. We don’t take “proof texts” out of context to prove others wrong. I learned to recognize literary, historical and social context. I would hope you would remain silent unless you have something useful to say, rather than question the faith of people you hve never seen, much less met.

Serial killers say that they are led by “Holy Spirit”. Go figure. Catholics also have the Holy Spirit.

My sentiments exactly. Don’t question the faith of people you have never seen, much less met.

Is “saying you are led by the Holy Spirit” the same as having the Holy Spirit?

Are you claiming to know if the previous poster is truly led by the Spirit or not?

Unless I am mistaken, you are the one attacking the Church founded my Christ (Mt 16:18) that is the pillar of truth (1 Tim 3:15).

Anybody can say they have the Holy Spirit. I’m talking about the comment earlier on Jimmy Swaggart. I know alot of people that go to the Catholic Church and are spirit filled. My mom was one.

Yet you hate Catholics

Ok:) Then, is it not possible for the Holy Spirit to use the scriptures to lead a Christian into the Catholic Church?

What book are you talking about?
the book which avenger could not prove to me that it is indeed the word of God,instead he/she turned to name calling when unable to provide any proof…
how bout you giving it a try…provide proof that the book you call holy is indeed the word of God.

notsmart,
My husband is like you and has changed my mind about Catholicism. Your prayers are worthwhile!

CWBetts,
I can also add from the ex-anti-Catholic Protestant perspective. You’re very right that we are mostly conditioned not to question things like sola scriptura and sola fida. Other ideas are simply off the radar.

I do think that a lot of this mindset, although now apparently built into Protestant culture, has its roots in the Lutheran Reformation. Reading Luther’s biography and tracing his theological development is very telling. It seems as if there’s a pattern in rejecting authority and relying on your self. Whereas God has called us to give our selves up, Protestantism and now things like new-Paganism and holonomic pantheism rely more upon your own interpretations so you can create a “subjective religion”. Belloc has much to say about that.
