This is where I may be able to help you. OSAS is not a no holds bar in that you are free to do whatever when ever. I understand that people have been mislead by this idea. Once a person, like myself, is saved, they do not want to sin any longer. not that the pleasures of this life are not tempting, and I’m certainly not free from sinning, but forgiven regardless. I would have unbelievable guilt if I were to participate in something as disgusting as sex with a prostitute. This would be a sin against God who has given me the very breath in my lounges yet I would not loose my salvation. This is the difference between OSAS and works type salvation. As a catholic, I was taught that unless your good deeds added up to higher than your bad deeds, you would have to find extra favor with the saints and with Mary to pray for your soul and even then, you would have to be purged of sins in the purgatory realm. I can sin, but I cannot loose my salvation. This is the peace that Christ has given His followers. We can attain peace in this life. Once you truely knoww Jesus, you step out of the fallen world and into the Kingdom of God.

Bible preaching churches are not part of a massive church as is the catholic church. For you to compare all bible teaching churches as one in the same is actually very far from truth.You do realize that, don’t you?

Mary was a Godly woman, according to scripture. She was chosen by God to do a wonderful work. She was married, had several children, lived her life, then she died. God’s word tells us it is appointed unto men, once to die, then the judgement.

Do you think Mary existed before God? How then did she become the mother of God? Jesus, the Son of God, was born of her, but He existed since before the foundations of the earth. Do you believe that Mary can somehow pull favors from God for you? She doesn’t know you. Mary is so enthralled with the fact she is in the presence of God that you mean nothing. Your relationship with God is all that matters for your eternity, same as was Mary. She trusted in God alone to Save her and He was faithful to her, as far as we know. Nothing says she was somehow removed from this earth before her time and that is a false teaching. I do not hate anyone who believes this lie, but only telling you that it is a lie.

My story is similar yet different. I already know Protestant preceps. I left the RCC when I was 15 because no one I knew actually followed their faith, and believed the myths more than the actual teachings of the Chruch. In fact, I would hear more about the Saints and Mary than Jesus. I’ve been studying scripture and have a personal relationship with Jesus ever since becoming protestant. yet serious study of the Bible, how it was put together and reading from the early church father leads me to believe that the chruch wasn’t all that wrong but the practitioners I met were. What you may find amazing is the number of Catholics who have a personal relationship with Jesus and are truley christian. The unfortunate truth is that Many Catholics have been misled by their families and priest that no more understood what they believe than pagans do. Unfortunately, this is true of some of the clergy though not all. However, a quick study of Church history will show it is true.

Remeber the parable of the wheat and the tares. Tares look almost like wheat. But at the last judgement they will be made clear. The issue is the same as it is for all ‘religions’ out there: You spell Religion ‘Do’ (Do enough and hopefully you will please God and be accepted). You spell Christianity ‘DONE’ (It’s all been done for you on the cross. Just accept it by childlike faith, the one act that lacks all merit!) Some Catholics understand this. Most, I fear, do not. Love them and pray for them and share with the ones who will listen.

We all make mistakes! (except perhaps Monsieur Poirot!) The grammar and spelling on these threads would make a teacher cringe …but…somehow we can make out what is being transmitted. We understand. We should all edit our postings but we may be in a hurry etc.

However, there is another reason for editing to which we should all pay careful attention. We need to check for accuracy and truth.

Of course, those of us who do not know the truth will have a hard time but when we approach a subject of which we know nothing our ignorance screams out and we can often make fools of ourselves. Some people will persist in speaking “with authority” on matters about which they know nothing and this is embarrassing and does them no credit.

If we wish to debate and advance we need to double check our utterings. I always appreciate when someone corrects me - that is how I learn, but I do try to research my statements.

Catholics are still obligated to abstain from meat or some other food/activity on Fridays.

It would be a sin because it would be disobedient to “them that have the rule over you,” as St. Paul says.

Yes “bible” churches are many and they all have differing opions to what the bible actually means. Some are OSAS others are Free will or Armeniest, some are against music, some have alcohol others, think any alcohol is sinful, on and on. BTW show me scripture that says gambling is wrong. I want to see how on your toes you are.

And besides, St. Paul says that celibacy is the higher calling.

And also, the Eastern-Rite branches of the Catholic Church have married priests, and some Latin-Rite Catholics have dispensations to marry.

I thought you claimed to be Cathloic? You don’t know why it is wrong to eat meat? Here is why, because you have to do something in order to feel that you are working out your salvation. If you are not working at it, then you have dead works, in which case you will not be able to enter heaven. Work, work, work. And if you say enough Hail Mary’s, and you beg Peter to intercede with Mary, and you find all these other Saints to put you on their intercesary list to present to God endlessly, you just might get to go to purgatory, but only if your a really, really good boy or girl. K?

The alternative to working out your own salvation is to trust God has given you a way to be saved as is told in God’s word if you only take the time to see it. You would learn that you can do nothing to earn the free gift of salvation, it has to be given.
