Seriously, I am going to pray that we can have a good debate. This is not a contest. However, there are a number of individuals on this thread that have made some serious allegations about the Faith and some have been downright insulting and heretical. We should consider also that there is an individual here who might be “wounded” from his past.
So, gently, intelligently, charitably, studiously, seriously, lovingly…let us discuss the Christian faith in the light of Catholicism. Are we not all members of God’s family. When I look at the terrible horrors of this world I ache for Christians to be united. We could achieve so much more.

I tried to find something to respond to, but you did not make any points of your own. You simply applied your false beliefs to things that you thought made sense. No, Hank. Salvation has nothing to do with how someone “feels”. It has to do with being in a right relationship with God. Sometimes, this actually is the opposite of how one “feels”.
There is a big difference to working out what has already been placed within, and working “on” something. We cannot “work” our way to heaven.
Are you trying to be funny, or are you really just ignorant about this? Were you taught a Catholic prayer where you were “begging Peter to intercede with Mary”? I have never heard of such a preposterous idea, however, I concede that I have not heard it all!
There is some truth to this, yes. Clearly the saints do intercede for us endlessly before God.

According to the Apostolic Teaching, we entrust our souls to a faithful creator:
1 Cor 4:3-5
3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by any human court. I do not even judge myself. 4 I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not thereby acquitted. It is the Lord who judges me. 5 Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive commendation from God.
Failure to do this is considered the sin of presumption.

My point is, I’m sorry you were exposed to nominal Catholics who weren’t living out Catholic values. In the Old Testament, there are numerous instances where the Jewish people and the priests-- yes, even the clergy-- were committing horrible acts of idolatry, even in the Holy Temple (like in Ezekiel, for instance) and prostitution was rampant. However, the Old Testament Jewish religion was still God’s religion, even though the Jews were behaving horribly, even the priests in the Temple worshipping idols of Baal and Tammuz!
My point is, even if there’re rotten apples in the holy Catholic Church, it’s still God’s religion, and they’ve done more missionary and charity work than any other organization in the world. I think you look at the bad and emphasize it, and ignore the good.

I run into non-Catholics Protestants all the time, who criticize Catholicism and have all sorts of opinions on Christian beliefs and why the Catholic Church is wrong about this or that… and yet, these same people, seldom, if ever… attend any church and do not themselves, behave like Christians.
** Well, I consider myself a member of the Via Media, so we don’t take kindly to the Protestant comparison. There have been pletny of non-Roman Catholics who act in anti-Christian manners, just as many RCs have in the past as well. It all deoends on your personal commitment to pursuing the Christian way of simplicity and humility.**
Additionally, many of those who complain about, what is “wrong” with Catholicism, know little or nothing about Catholic beliefs.

If you can’t answer someone’s question because you really just don’thave any, call them fools. That should set them right. It will confuse them. It will cover up the fact that you don’t know the answer. Make it look like your being cool and maybe cover up all that ignorance.
Good evading tactic. Not something you can keep up for long though. Because one way or another, they will find up just what you’re up to.
