The end is nigh?

ONLY when we are ready, OR not, for the end times, being EITHER evil in the extreme OR good in the extreme, BUT before the year 6000 in either case, OR any day. All of this is supported by Jewish thinking, OR not.

I thought no one was supposed to know the day nor the hour?

In the Hebrew calendar, 2239 is the initiation of a world wide sabbath for 1,000 years, and the supposed deadline for the Messiah in Judaism.

I really get tired of these “are we in the last days” type of threads on a Catholic forum. The answer is emphatically YES. That is Church teaching and has been for 2000 years. We have been in the last days since the Ascension into heaven. From the CCC:

670 Since the Ascension God’s plan has entered into its fulfillment. We are already at “the last hour”.554 "Already the final age of the world is with us, and the renewal of the world is irrevocably under way; it is even now anticipated in a certain real way, for the Church on earth is endowed already with a sanctity that is real but imperfect."555 Christ’s kingdom already manifests its presence through the miraculous signs that attend its proclamation by the Church.556
Amen.
I am also tired of people thinking every war or disaster is the beginning of the end of the world.

I should have said the year 6000 according to the Hebrew calendar. (The current year is 5778.) For some, that is the deadline. But, as my post indicated, NOT for all. Indeed there is NO universal belief about this matter within Judaism, which is par for the course.

Yes, I understood that, but it seems to be a widely held belief among Orthodox Jews.

I don’t think Orthodox Jews are in agreement on this matter either. In any case, not too much attention is paid to it in Judaism or in Catholicism, I believe. Just be ready, morally and spiritually, as it may occur within your own lifetime.

They’ll be surprised at who it’s revealed to be when he comes:

My opinion is that this imminent (30 years) end is nothing less that the catastrophe of global nuclear war. I offer these passages in support of that hypothesis:
Psalm 9:15-16
Isaiah 2:16 & 66:15-16
Jeremiah 25:32-33
Zephaniah 1:17
Luke 12:49 & 21:34-35

In Anglican theology the “fire” of Luke 12:49 is the same as the fire of Isaiah 66:15-16

. . . that day will be sprung on you suddenly, like a trap. For it will come down on every living man on the face of the earth,

I am also tired of people thinking every war or disaster is the beginning of the end of the world.
Then why do you read these threads? Ignore the ones that tire you so much.

BTW, Pope St. Pius X was reported to have said this in 1914:

“Respect for God has disappeared from human hearts. They wish to efface even God’s memory. This perversity is nothing less than the beginning of the last days of the world.”

I read them so I can post about how tired I am of them.

Also, I see these comments other places than just on these threads. I do have a life outside CAF and other social media and friends who post things elsewhere.

My opinion is that we are living in the End Times, literally not figuratively. That’s an informed opinion, on which I may be completely wrong - for all the reasons people have identified here.

What I am much more certain of is that western civilisation itself is in terminal decline, and the end is approaching rapidly and inexorably.

I’m not informed enough to speculate on whether the world is ending. But Western Civilization is ending. Alas.

Interesting results sor far. CAF does not have even a majority regarding this topic.
