I think God knows exactly how to re-build things once things tumble down.

You sure about this as it defies logic in my book. Some reports would have us believe that children made the rational decision to travel almost 2,000 miles on their own efforts! Of course, how they managed to cope with the trauma of leaving the only security they ever knew behind – their own families, how they got the physical necessities to survive a trip like that, and how they managed to evade the dangers of human traffickers and drug lords along the way is not speculated upon. Common sense alone would say that the fact that so many arrived here successfully was dependent upon some very major players lending assistance.
I didn’t say that they did not get any assistance. I have said that this influx of migrants is due, at least partly, to the desire to escape the drug traffickers. And the US is responsible because of the huge demand that Americans have for illegal drugs. Everyone knows about the famous Americans found to possess heroin, cocaine, and other illegal drugs and they are not in jail.
"Cesar was four years old when a group of men in his tiny hometown killed his father. He was a teenager when he says the same group of men began to threaten his older brother.
At age 17, tired of hiding in his house, Cesar left the poverty, violence and drug gangs of Guatemala behind and set out for the U.S.
“I wanted to escape all of that,” he said. “You arrive at a point where you can take no more.” "

" A major investigation into narcofosas(mass graves) in Mexico by the magazine Milenio found the corpses of 24,000 people.3 Entire cities and towns have erupted into war zones chock-full with military checkpoints and drug cartel roadblocks. Armed with military grade weapons including grenade launchers, the drug gangs are an equal match for Mexican soldiers and police. Drug cartel sicarios (assassins), the military, and police have committed atrocities and violated human rights countless times. Dismembered body parts are left on streets and found decomposing in barrels of acid. Dead bodies with mouths duct taped shut hang from busy commuter bridges. Women are raped and murdered with impunity, and journalists who expose law enforcement corruption are kidnapped and killed. The drug war takes no prisoners.

This bloody war, ostensibly to rid the country of illegal drugs and drug trafficking, has been a grisly failure. Mexico continues to be a major exporter of heroin and marijuana and a central transshipment point for cocaine from Andean South America bound for the United States. Drugs cross the heavily fortified US-Mexican border far more easily than do migrants seeking work in the United States. The power of the drug cartels to kill, corrupt, and elude capture has grown exponentially as have their profits."

On immigrant surge, White House story falls apart
The main reason the subjects chose this particular time to migrate to the United States was to take advantage of the “new” U.S. “law” that grants a “free pass” or permit (referred to as “permisos”) being issued by the U.S. government to female adult OTMs traveling with minors and to UACs. (Comments: The “permisos” are the Notice to Appear documents issued to undocumented aliens, when they are released on their own recognizance pending a hearing before an immigration judge.) The information is apparently common knowledge in Central America and is spread by word of mouth, and international and local media. A high percentage of the subjects interviewed stated their family members in the U.S. urged them to travel immediately, because the United States government was only issuing immigration “permisos” until the end of June 2014…The issue of “permisos” was the main reason provided by 95% of the interviewed subjects.

This is a red herring relative to the subject of this thread. Small children (and youth) are crossing our borders unaccompanied. Someone had to help them get here. Who did this and why? Read the link above " …some Democrats explained that, if there, in fact, are misperceptions about U.S. law among illegal immigrants, the way to clarify the situation is to pass comprehensive immigration reform."

These children are being exploited for political gain. And they will manage to pass amnesty via the throes of a man-made crisis because they have been unable to do so through the normal channels in Congress as the majority of Americans are opposed to such legislation. It is unconscionable and only evil motivation would use such a tactic.

Oh, please. How dare you.

As I’ve already said, something like 80% tax on $37 billion dollars still leaves over $7 billion.

80% tax on Bill Gates still leaves him with over $15 billion. Maybe you have no clue, the difference between one million and one billion. The difference is 999,000,000 (times 15).

You think THAT is stealing, when I think taxing 80% on Mr. & Mrs American Jones (who are worth $400k) is stealing.

Taxing 80% on $400k leaves $80,000. Compare that to 80% tax on $37 billion, leaving over $7 billion.

Go on, champ. Keeping rooting to defend the rich, poor them. Don’t forget who shops (and works) at Wal-Mart.

P.S. I’m not Thomas Piketty, author of a “best SELLER”, selling JUNK to the minds of readers. I’m just somebody who read what he said. 80% income tax, omg! Make sure you apply it to the people who CAN AFFORD to PAY 80 friggen percent!!!

Taxing 80% on 400k takes a person from the hundred thousand level to the ten thousand level. Taxing 80% on the billion level leaves a person AT THE BILLION LEVEL.

omg
You should never wish to take 80% of ANYONE’S wealth. That is being covetous.

ARTICLE 10
THE TENTH COMMANDMENT

**You shall not covet . . . anything that is your neighbor’s. . . . You shall not desire your neighbor’s house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, or his ox, or his ***, or anything that is your neighbor’s.**317
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.318

2534 The tenth commandment unfolds and completes the ninth, which is concerned with concupiscence of the flesh. It forbids coveting the goods of another, as the root of theft, robbery, and fraud, which the seventh commandment forbids. “Lust of the eyes” leads to the violence and injustice forbidden by the fifth commandment.319 Avarice, like fornication, originates in the idolatry prohibited by the first three prescriptions of the Law.320 The tenth commandment concerns the intentions of the heart; with the ninth, it summarizes all the precepts of the Law.

I. THE DISORDER OF COVETOUS DESIRES

2535 The sensitive appetite leads us to desire pleasant things we do not have, e.g., the desire to eat when we are hungry or to warm ourselves when we are cold. These desires are good in themselves; but often they exceed the limits of reason and drive us to covet unjustly what is not ours and belongs to another or is owed to him.

2536 The tenth commandment forbids greed and the desire to amass earthly goods without limit. It forbids avarice arising from a passion for riches and their attendant power. It also forbids the desire to commit injustice by harming our neighbor in his temporal goods:

When the Law says, “You shall not covet,” these words mean that we should banish our desires for whatever does not belong to us. Our thirst for another’s goods is immense, infinite, never quenched. Thus it is written: "He who loves money never has money enough."321

2537 It is not a violation of this commandment to desire to obtain things that belong to one’s neighbor, provided this is done by just means. Traditional catechesis realistically mentions “those who have a harder struggle against their criminal desires” and so who “must be urged the more to keep this commandment”:

. . . merchants who desire scarcity and rising prices, who cannot bear not to be the only ones buying and selling so that they themselves can sell more dearly and buy more cheaply; those who hope that their peers will be impoverished, in order to realize a profit either by selling to them or buying from them . . . physicians who wish disease to spread; lawyers who are eager for many important cases and trials.322

2538 The tenth commandment requires that envy be banished from the human heart. When the prophet Nathan wanted to spur King David to repentance, he told him the story about the poor man who had only one ewe lamb that he treated like his own daughter and the rich man who, despite the great number of his flocks, envied the poor man and ended by stealing his lamb.323 Envy can lead to the worst crimes.324 “Through the devil’s envy death entered the world”:325

We fight one another, and envy arms us against one another. . . . If everyone strives to unsettle the Body of Christ, where shall we end up? We are engaged in making Christ’s Body a corpse. . . . We declare ourselves members of one and the same organism, yet we devour one another like beasts.326

2539 Envy is a capital sin. It refers to the sadness at the sight of another’s goods and** the immoderate desire to acquire them for oneself**, even unjustly. When it wishes grave harm to a neighbor it is a mortal sin:

St. Augustine saw envy as "the diabolical sin."327 "From envy are born hatred, detraction, calumny, joy caused by the misfortune of a neighbor, and displeasure caused by his prosperity."328

**2540 Envy represents a form of sadness and therefore a refusal of charity; **the baptized person should struggle against it by exercising good will. Envy often comes from pride; the baptized person should train himself to live in humility:

Would you like to see God glorified by you? Then rejoice in your brother’s progress and you will immediately give glory to God. Because his servant could conquer envy by rejoicing in the merits of others, God will be praised.329

We are not talking small amounts of money here. We are talking astronomical amounts of amassed and accumulated gross, obscene wealth.

Do not forget, an establishment like Wal-Mart is MADE of the poverty-level people who shop, and work, there. It is the people who build that public, high profile company. And yes, they do participate in charitable philanthropy but if I give my public review of it, it could open a can of worms. I have reviewed Wal-Mart’s charitable philanthropy and I was not cheering them on with high praises, and I’ll leave it at that.

If you think that TAXATION in general is covetous, then you might have a claim. Otherwise, taxation is simply part of the equation and please do NOT miss or ignore the point I have made: there is a difference, a huge difference, between taxing Mr. & Mrs. American Jones and taxing extreme billionaires. And again, I am not Thomas Piketty, the one who calls for 80% tax. I’m simply somebody who read his words, and hit the proverbial roof.

Here’s a reminder of the economic atmosphere we survive in.

the only red herring here is to close your ears, to close your minds and to close your hearts to what those who have crossed the border are telling us.

This problem was caused by Americans’ insatiable demand for illegal drugs.
Believe what you will as will I. For every link you post, I can find another to contradict it. Pay close attention to the news, though, and we’ll see what consequences happen next.
But the childrens’ arrivals already have been tagged by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., as “administration-made” and are happening at a critical time. These summer months were to be the last chance for the House GOP to act on immigration reform before Obama took some presidential action on immigration.
“House Republicans who are standing in the way of immigration reform should avoid politicizing this urgent situation and instead immediately enact bipartisan comprehensive legislation that secures our borders, protects and unites our families,” said spokesman Jorge Aguilar.

I don’t say that the policies of American politicians, backed by American corporations in search of cheap labor, have not contributed to the problem. But you should not close your eyes to the testimony of those children who say that they fear for their lives because of the violence of the drug traffickers.

This is not a new problem. These children (and not all of them are) have been coming across the boarder for years each summer, just this year it is really big and has made the press. They are mostly from Honduras , El Salvador, and Guatemala. Though sad their countries are so crime and poverty ridden that they seek escape to the US it portends a huge problem for the US as we will see this year after year unless we do something. My understanding is the laws are also different from deportation of Mexican illegals vice Central American illegals. Much more lenient for Central American illegals. If nothing is done you can count on that your loved ones will eventually pay the price in what the government can do for them when their in need and certainly in their taxes. We need to control our boarders, but need to help as best we can as individual Catholics and through our government in the countries of origin. No easy answers

This is not a new problem.
True. As long as Americans continue to use and to glorify the use of illegal drugs and thereby create and support these violent drug cartels in Mexico, Central and South America, the problem will continue. Children deserve to be able to grow up in an atmosphere of peace and love, which is now impossible for them as they fear for their lives and safety because of these murderous drug cartels which have arisen because of America’s thirst for illegal mind and mood altering substances.

They aren’t all from Mexico. They are refugees fleeing South American criminal gangs. They should be treated as such and not sent back. How heartless do you have to be to turn children away and send them back to certain death or life as a criminal or both.

There’s much more going on behind this surge of illegal immigrants than fear of gangs.

I missed some of these threads, but no matter. It is relatively useless to point out to the American public the injustice, the anarchy, the corruption and total disregard for this sovereign nation and the people who live here. There is something so totally nefarious in these actions perhaps people cannot face what is actually happening, or else and more likely, they are apathetic. I notice the social justice crowd is rather narrow-minded in that their concern only lies with the illegal immigrants and they seem not to notice that the *common good * which is a principle facet of authentic Catholic social justice teaching is no longer considered nor a fundamental aspect of this equation. This issue is huge and not just about small children crossing the border…human beings are being used to bring about the destruction of government as we have always known it. But by all means, let’s just pray and blame it on the drug cartels. 🤷

I cannot charitably comment on this…so I will say nothing at all!
I’ll say it.

These are crocodile tears being shed by a man who used these children as pawns in his game of throwing the immigration system into such chaos that legislators will see no alternative but to enact changes he hopes he can shape to political advantage.

The fate of children who fell off trains to their deaths and those who were sold into slavery and even those who are warehoused in confusion in a country they don’t know and don’t understand, are all his fault and that of his party and supporters. It’s absolutely despicable.

Yep, this whole flood didn’t happen by magic. It was concocted and enacted by the Administration. They used back door channels to push the word to these people that amnesty was happening soon, and told them all the free goodies they will get. They even gave them talking points for when they get here.

Welcome to the land of false hope

The rumor is spreading around the pueblos! America is taking care of women and children.

The coyotes, people who help smuggle migrants across the border, and cartels are swarming in like vultures, scooping up their prey and escorting them by bus to the Mexican-American border, where they simply throw up a ladder and instruct everyone to climb up, jump into America and wait for Border Patrol to come along and rescue them.

So, of course, all the young vulnerable, migrant women who just got to America that I spoke with saw the Border Patrol as the heroes who came to assist them on their journey. They all said that when they saw Border Patrol, they finally felt safe and happy to have survived their harrowing odyssey to get to the Promised Land.

To this day, they don’t seem to grasp that they were apprehended. Once taken into custody, the migrants are given food and shelter, and deportation documents – which they keep referring to as their “papers.” After they are processed, the women with infants who claim to have family members in America are released – with documents that have a court date for a deportation hearing in a location near their kin.

Once the border-crossers have been processed by the Department of Homeland Security, they are released – so throughout the day, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement delivers them to the Greyhound bus station where they are dropped off and forced to fend for themselves.

These are very poor, uneducated women who speak Indigenous languages, so when they arrive at the bus station all they can say is, “I’m going to Tejas!”

“Where in Texas?” asks the humanitarian aid worker.

“South Dakota,” announces another mother with a newborn in tow, not capable of naming any town in that state.
