We make rock cakes too šŸ™‚
This thread is helping build momentum for Christmas cooking .

Maybe it has something to do with the old saying that describes something, ā€œAs American as apple pie.ā€ I think perhaps the colonists left England to escape mince pie. Pumpkin pie is more popular around the holidays here. My mom does like mince pie, however, even though not many stores carry it (she looks for prebaked pies since she never liked cooking all that much).

Thatā€™s funny, but mince pies are small and very sweet and are delicious with custard or cream. At Christmas we have them as a dessert, sometimes with peaches and a small piece of Christmas pudding with cream or custard or even both. Very fattening though eaten like that.

Iā€™ve never had pumpkin pie, is it sweet? Iā€™ve actually got a huge whole pumpkin in the kitchen right now.

Pumpkin pie is delicious! My friend from Ireland never had it until she visited and she loved it.

My mother makes mince pies for Christmas.
She uses glacĆ© tropical fruits and even adds nuts. Delicious with some whipped cream or ice cream on top. šŸ˜šŸ˜

She usually goes all out for Christmas especially on sweets. Panettone, rugelach, fruit cake and mince pies. An international selection.

I grew up all over the world due to my fatherā€™s employer transferring him all over the place.

The huge pumpkin šŸŽƒ you usually see displayed as jack oā€™lanterns are the worst type of pumpkin for pies. Theyā€™re bland and watery.

The pie pumpkins, usually small and unassuming are the best. Even then thereā€™s a bit of processing involved such as removing the excess water to get maximum pumpkin flavor. I usually use canned pumpkin purĆ©e since all the work has already been done for me.

According to an online encyclopaedia the mince pie is served in English speaking countries at Christmas except the USA šŸ˜² why? Thatā€™s odd, theyā€™re my very favourite thing!
That depends on what part of the country you live in. Growing up we always had mince pie at both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Now a days, at my home, it is mostly Thanksgiving fare.
