Of course getting peace from the Word of God is not a bad thing. . .and if that were indeed all that thecoach had said, no one would have offered anything other than acknowledgment and support. But it wasn’t ‘all’ that was said, and if you read through carefully you’ll see that thecoach has more to say --and also, that all those ‘judgmental’ people you decry are not so much concerned for ‘the Catholic team’ but indeed FOR the individual. That you might disagree (or I might disagree) with certain words or posts (and please remember it is very hard, when just seeing ‘words on a screen’ to understand that behind those ‘words’ may be great CHARITY, for it is indeed love which speaks that which may seem to ‘deny’ someone, but if the denial is for the person’s spiritual good, then that denial is deeply loving), does not make the words, or the person behind the words, wrong or unloving.
And nowhere did I say (as was implied by another poster) in my ‘common misconception as a Catholic regarding born-agains’ (and what a judgmental assumption THAT was, to boot), that feelings were not to be taken into account at all. . .just that they are not a reliable guide to the truth of whatever it is that one has ‘feelings’ about. I can have great depths of feeling or emotion on a topic–even on what I think is “God” or his word --and be completely wrong. But it would be equally wrong to not have any emotion whatsoever when it comes to our Savior and Lord. St. Paul notes that charity is indeed ‘the greatest of the three’ but charity is not SOLELY an emotion. Nor it is necessarily the same thing as ‘loving’, especially depending on what people think that being ‘loving’ is. God bless.
