The mystery of Hitler

I think a lack of belief in God combined with a dehumanizing hatred of certain groups of people combined with a lust for power and the right timing for them to rise to power (an impoverished Germany; a Russia in the midst of a communist revolution) were just the formula needed for such an evil to take such a hold–though i would not completely rule out possessing as the force fueling the lust for power and the hatred.

Especially in the case of Hitler and the many assassination attempts that he survived it really makes you think that someone or something must have been helping him.
Hitler believed in God. There is nothing evil about not believing in God. Don’t be so judgemental. Based on the ratios, christians go to prison at a higer rate than atheists.

It is my understanding that Hitler, Stalin and the Roman soldiers who tortured and killed Jesus were all demonically possessed.
So then Hitler and Stalin are not in hell because they had no control over their actions?

A few years ago I watched a documentary on the concentration camps, slave labor locations deaths, and urban and countryside direct deaths under Nazi domination.

The total number of deaths of men women and children were around 15 million. Around 6 million of the 15 million were Jews.

I’m not anti -simitic at all, but I wish more was publicized about the non-Jews that were exterminated. If there were approximately 9 million more other victims of the hallocaust, it should be known and talked about more in the history books.
But we only hear about the Jews and no one else, and only the 6 million figure.

I agree with that last post, although I’ve read a lot of Jewish statements that would agree with it also, especially from people who were in the camps alongside these other people.

I think it’s interesting that much of this debate has been about how one individual can bring so much evil.

A lot of evidence points to the fact that many of Hitlers policies were supported, and even taken further than Hitler wanted or expected. The harder truth to accept is that many Germans wanted and agreed with his social policies and this is something I struggled with for a long time when I had to study it.

There were times in Hitlers government when people took his policies above and beyond the call of duty…and in effect his later policies were lead by the people. Not his final solution, but many of his social policies regarding mentally ill people and orphaned and disabled children.

I think it makes debating evil easier to demonise one man, but really when we talk about the evil of Hitler we should be talking about how evil can use and influence through people on a mass scale.

Have you guys ever read about the early Christian days and the evil emperors such as Nero who put thousands of Christians to death. I can’t even read those accounts of how they died in the Coliseum because it literally makes me sick. In one day thousands of Christians and equal numbers of animals were slaughtered in the coliseum for spectators to watch. Thats what gets me, that anyone would want to go and watch human (or even animal) agony and bloodshed, but they did. Now we just watch people being shot, ripped apart, blown up and what ever in the movies while we munch our popcorn.

The Jewish Shoah is a very sensitive topic for Jews and understandably so. We should be very careful. If we lost 6 million of our own people in horrific ways (babies being put into ovens etc), we might be more thoughtful in our responses, or at least more sensitive in how we present them. With anti-semitism so rampant today in the world, I believe this point is critical and cannot be emphasised enough. After all, our salvation came into the world, through Our Blessed Lady who was a devout Jew.

We lost more than that in WWII. Christian priests & pastors (Protestant & Catholic), and lay people, as well as the general resistance were slaughtered alongside of the Jews in the concentration camps. Let us not forget our brothers and sisters western Europe who were slaughtered at Hitler’s conquest.

May his name be erased from memory and may his soul never know a moment’s peace.

The victims may fogive their murders. That is their right. It isn’t mine or (IMO) ours.
Why would you pray for something such as this? Why would you want the name of someone who caused so much suffering erased from the world? Don’t you want people to learn from the past? It wasn’t just Jews who suffered during the Holocaust(R).

I repeat, when people ask me why I an so concerned that our constitution be preserved and not eroded away, I have only to point at what happened in Germany.

"But that couldn’t happen nowadays!!"

It happened in my lifetime.

"But it couldn’t happen in a modern nation!!"

It happened in the most advanced nation in Europe.

"But it couldn’t happen in a Christian nation!!"

It happened in a nation filled with good Lutherans and Catholics.

And look at the abortion toll in this country. Tell me it can’t happen here.

When we say “may his name be erased” we are asking that it be as if his name was never recorded in the book of life.

Abortion has taken far more lives then Hitler’s actions did. We collectively commit a holocaust sized slaughter every 3-4 years in the United States alone, and that does not include the rest of the world, nor does it include the use of the pill.

How millions of Catholics have died because of abortion?

How many Jews have died because of abortion?

It is not a question of “if it can happen here, today,” because it is happening right under our own noses.

Amen!

And it will only get worse, with “post-birth abortions” and euthanasia becoming legal and common.

I agree.History is already repeating without people even being aware of it. There are millions of mini-holocaust commited every year.

and the BIGGEST holocaust year to date is ABORTION!
I agree, so we need to worry more about today, then of things gone by, such as Hitler and his holocaust. While we must learn from the past, we must seek to not repeat it.

Well…who was the wise man that stated …“without understanding history we are doomed to repeat it?”…or something along those lines…
Abortion and all other mass killings are the perfect example of us not learning from history…but making the same darn mistakes!

Well said.

I heard a saying once…something like:

If we keep one eye on the past we are blind in one eye,
If we keep both eyes on the present we are blind in both.

I don’t know, but Stalin was worse than him! (he doesn’t get brought up as much because he was on our side against Germany).

It comes from man desiring to be God–it’s very similar to the rebellion of the devil himself. So much so that possession may have been involved. Pope Pius XII attempted a long distance exhorcism on Hitler, but it failed–his chief exhorcist believed Hitler was possessed. Unfortunately, it failed for a variety of reasons.

wow - cool to hear the pope tried long distance exorcism on hitler… i didn’t know that…

I think people just do evil and thendo more evil and become, in the end possessed and then its more or less hopeless, without the exorcism, of course…
