That is wishful thinking, I doubt the next flu vax will include coronavirus

I think our best bet would be for mass usage of masks by the public.
The research I saw indicated that if you can get 80% attempting to use masks, it shuts down the spread. This works even with poor mask usage and includes DIY masks of lower efficacy.

Everyone wearing masks (and hand washing) is like having a quarantine without the quarantine.

Flu vaccine has absolutely nothing to do with covid 19 vaccine. They are very different. I have NOT mentioned flu vaccine at all.
Did you misunderstand my post? How can I make it clearer?

This is a global pandemic with the next epicentre predicted to be USA, right now as I type this NY alone has over 25k tested cases.
Masks are not the solution, and can be detrimental. They must fit correctly and the only ones that do are respirator masks. Did you see the photos of the health care professionals with all the bruising on their faces due to masks. Moving ahead someone needs to invent a better face care system. 👍🙏
A certain public figure is getting very bad advice if truly believing things can be back to operational by Easter Sunday. (yep I just broke my own rule and theo now concede defeat on the political commentary 🦠😎 🧼)

For those who are wearing face masks - this video is good. Please remember to smooth (metal band) over the nose and cheeks. Use the car mirror to make sure it is sitting well.

Hint: If you wear glasses or sun glasses, fitting should be good if you do not fog your glasses up!

 
Lt Governor Patrick of Yexas said that grandparents would be happy to die to save the economy for their children. If he did a poll on that he missed this grandparent. The two grandchildren living with me might agree. They are 3 and 6 do I won’t ask them. I don’t want yo scare them.
 
Yes. That is what many of us are concerned about. Is the lockdown going to be worse in the long run. In our fallen world people die and we cannot save everyone and there needs to be a balance. Obviously life is a precious gift from God but if we were to spend all the money in the world to save just one life now but it cost us millions later would it be worth it? Clearly that’s hyperbole but it demonstrates the need for balance and reasoned approaches.

I used it as a timing reference. that we wouldn’t have it available by that time.
Also (maybe ignorantly) assumed it would be added to the flu shot, when it was available.

No, they don’t even have to fit well with the general public for spread to be reduced.

I’ve heard that would be the plan for it, to batch it with the regular seasonal flu vaccine (which is already a flu and respiratory illness vaccine stew as is).

Maybe in subsequent years, but I would think for the first round it will be an additional shot, like the H1N1 influenza was. That gives needed time to test for safety and efficacy of combining them.

Along the lines of that New Yorker article, here’s a Youtube video worth watching in its entirety. It’s less than 20 minutes.


Most important takeaway from this video: we do not have a hand washing culture here. That’s how this stuff gets spread all over. When even health care workers don’t wash hands, they can become vectors of infection into their families and their communities.

This is why New York City is having such a hard time. Imagine a conspicuous lack of hand washing among the workers. Imagine those workers traveling all over via subway, bus and taxi. Imagine all those surfaces they touch. Likely the same deal in Italy and Spain.
