That link is behind a paywall. Can you find another that does not require log in, I would be interested in reading it.
I don’t have another link. The New York Times is providing all coronavirus coverage free. You do have to register, but you will not be charged.

Trouble is from other threads, some people will read it and begin end of the world discussions or did you mean these cute marine creatures.

Not the marine creatures. Only the Father knows so there’s no point to me in speculating or discussing but rather just be ready.

The US death-toll is now 500 in 24 hours, the way it is increasing it won’t be long until it overtakes Italy and Spain. What worse is that Donald Trump wants to lockdown New York yet the governor is stating he doesn’t have the authority to do so and won’t let it happen as it would devastate the economy for months, perhaps years. How cheap is life in the US, this needs to be taken more seriously, act in a way that can save lives.

I would base it on past performance in openness to reporting prior outbreaks, and the knee jerk response of blaming the US in particular for bringing the current virus to their country, even if only for economic reasons.

Are they the only ones being careless with the truth? I dont think so.

USA blames China, China blames USA, people think this is someones escaped biological weapon. Iran blames USA , People blame Russia, Conspiracy theorists say Italy is a target because it went and did a big deal in China on the quiet,.

Who knows what the truth is. Where there is smoke there is fire. This can now, even if it wasnt originally, become a bio weapon as Iran is claiming. All it takes is for a few invected people or people wih this virus to go somewhere and spread it. That is what Iran is claiming.

Why is Italy hit so hard but Germany not? It is not about age because Germany has similar demographics. etc etc etc

It’s about overall health and preexisting conditions. Age is only a factor such that people’s health generally declines as they get older.

And I’m with you. None of us…NONE of us will ever really know the truth if this was a conspiracy or not, but Okam’s Razor says no (to be clear I do not believe this was some conspiracy), and none of is going to do anything about it either if “China did it”…

Whyis Italy hit somhard but Germany not?
What Germany said a few days ago was that they don’t know for sure.
What they did was a lot of testing to detect infected and attack the virus early. Their diagnostic testing capacity is 160.000 a week . In Italy there have been 150.000 tests in all.
Early detection of cases, sends them to quarantine and treatment and prevents expansion Bear in mind it can show no synthoms
Also on January 6th they had already created their emergency committee ,long before it hit them , their first case being on the 27th
These plus that the infected persons were young people .
This is what I read in BBC News in Spanish , article by Alejandro Millán Valencia ( BBC News Mundo Coronavirus: ¿por qué Alemania tiene un número tan bajo de muertos por covid-19 en comparación con otros países? ).

I think cultural differences explain why Spain Italy and France were hit harder than Germany. Germans shake hands or nod in greeting, they don’t kiss you on both cheeks and hug you.

oops all those typos.
You raise some good points. It could also be that Italy has a much deadlier strain or two.

I am not sure this has been verified yet but who knows…
It is a day to day…

This graph is a good visual! Many countries are still too early in the number of cases to tell if the curve is flattening yet. Those that are further along with the virus show varying levels of flattening the curve. For the US, we definitely had a sharp upturn and now must wait longer to see if our curve begins to flatten out. If people would just obey the quarantine and distancing rules, we can achieve it.

I’ve said before and will say again. Every time someone violates the rules, they delay everyone’s ability to get back to work, Mass and normalcy. I’m really trying to be hopeful for the beginning of the curve to flatten in the next week so that we can begin to plan for less restrictions. The more we obey now, the sooner it will happen. Those defying the orders are hurting everyone and I have no problem blaming them for further job losses!

Sweden bucks global trend with experimental virus strategy
Fewer restrictions than other leading countries and schools remain open
They’re doing what the UK was doing until recently.
Sweden has lower population density living conditions than UK, which may contribute to reducing the impact on their population. The article suggests that people are to some extent choosing self isolation and social distancing, even as their government is not proposing it, nor mandating it, as are some other countries.

The article does not give the date for the stats quoted: 2000 cases, 33 deaths.

Today’s numbers: 3700 cases, 110 deaths
Deaths per 1 million population: 11, well above the world average of 4.4

For comparison, death per 1 million population:
Italy 178
UK 18
Denmark 12
USA 7
Norway 5

I’m with you, Patty. Where there are rules, …
Every time someone violates the rules, they delay everyone’s ability to get back to work, Mass and normalcy
