Tis_Bearself . . .
You’re just getting all worked up over an imaginary problem.
What problem do you think I am concerned about here?

.

Tis_Bearself partially MAKING my point without even realizing it . . .
See you later, I’m about to go out for some dinner, containing meat.
.

Yeah. And I am glad it is your “personal choice” to do that Tis_Bearself. Not everyone wants you to have that freedom.

I think the far better approach is to simply laugh at all of this. Eventually, people will realize that being a vegan is not particularly healthy. They then start eating an appropriate diet (with meat) in secret and soon being vegan is no longer in style. Problem solved…

But I am not talking about “being a vegan” or not “being a vegan”.

I am talking about WHO gets to be YOUR proverbial “food referee”?

And we are almost 100 posts into this thread and I can’t recall anyone just saying the obvious.

I don’t recall anyone just saying . . .
Yeah. When Joaquin Phoenix says things like you eating meat is “no longer just a personal choice”
I wonder WHO the hades “choice” he thinks it is?!

But my point isn’t reducible down to school lunches and meat taxes.

My point has to do with other people having ideas that think it is OK to control YOU and YOUR “personal choice” to eat meat or to not eat meat.
And you know a completely agree. For example, the biggest problem with the school lunch program is the central government controls it.
And there are some very influential people who do not think you should have a “personal choice”.

And I am saying these are dangerous ideas. It is naive to assume people who think in a “worldview” like that want to stop at your meat choices.
It is dangerous if people sit back and let it happen.
Phoenix expresses a rather fascistic point of view. That needs to be said.

Ridicule by fallacy and attempts to be cute (that are not funny).
Well, I know it’s not funny to you. 🙃 I can’t really take this seriously as a man expressing his opinion on food choices isn’t very threatening to me. All this talk about meat is really making me crave something meaty. I might treat myself to Wendy’s

the self-destructive tendencies of some people’s ideas.
Ah, then leave the ideas alone and let them destroy themselves.
If have stated and re-stated my concern is not about an Oscar party.
That’s kind of obscured being in a thread about the Oscar party.
I have been personally subject to being berated by some of these people for eating meat.
I had a Hindu roommate that didn’t want me to use beef on any shared dishes :plate_with_cutlery:. That was cool. I had a friend that thought it was cruel what animals 🐮🐔🐖 go through to get processed for food. She asked me to watch some documentary that I think was called “Earthling 🌎.” I watched it, saw how the sausage:hotdog: was made, and had a burger 🍔 later that day.
nd nobody’s going to snatch your medium-rare sirloin out from under your drooling mouth. . . except maybe your dog, if you have one. 🐶
I had a 🐱 that would stand near the microwave appearing to mind it’s own business when it heard someone was using it. The second they took their food out of the microwave it would try to jump up and knock it out of their hands. One day I brought a 🍕 home but left my son roof open. Before bringing it in someone wanted me to help with something. I leave and come back to get my pizza. The 🐱 had gotten into my 🚗 and was in the box with the 🍕. It was lost to me, I wasn’t touching the pizza after that.

I hope no one sequestered her purse and forced her to eat the tofu!!

🤦‍♀️

Do you think her turkey sandwich should be her personal choice like I do?

Or do you think like Joaquin and think it should be somebody elses choice F_Marturana?

After watching Joaquin Phoenix’s acceptance speech for his Oscar, I have to admit I had only one thought: “Get the hook.”

I think one problem is that a lot of people, both those who eat meat and those who don’t, have never raised animals for food. That can make people think of eating meat as an all-or-nothing its-cruel-or-its-not or its wasteful-or-its-not proposition. In times past, people raised their own meat and ate a lot less meat as a result. Pigs weren’t wasteful; they used up food waste and turned stuff that humans couldn’t eat into meat humans can eat.

Now, though, we’re mostly separated from the animals we raise for food (or hunt for food) and even the plants we raise for food. I think that can give us a bit of an odd relationship with what we eat and also with the people who actually do raise it, whether they raise crops or raise animals.

I’ll say that the sweetest 🐱 in the world becomes relentless 😼 when you are trying to cook salmon or tilapia. It’s like a total Jekyll and Hyde personality change.

@Cathoholic …to think that we were once debating/discussing abrogated ecclesial laws from the Council of Trent. We were actually learning things! However now we’re discussing…

That’s right jack63.

Now we are discussing what Joaquin Phoenix said . . . the thread topic on my OP.

By the way.

The Church’s disciplines
are not the same thing as
the Government’s laws.
