The picking-up some Pampers or a gallon of milk Mass?

“punkish?” Is that a word?

The punk rock movement has NOTHING to do with black death metal sewage like that of deicide. Why did you just inject a new variable into the conversation? Have you not been allowing “punkish” attired people to attend Mass in your parish?
I allow them, apparently you seem to have a problem with people that don’t dress the way you’d want them to dress.

What would you do if the kid refused to change his shirt, wear what you would provide him, or turn it inside-out and wanted to proceed into the Church to attend Mass and spend time with Jesus?
You’re asking it he chose not to attend Mass. I will answer one final time. If he chose not to attend Mass I would try to get him to change his mind by tactfully going through his options again. He could change his shirt, cover it or turn it inside-out.

I was also trying to make a point with people that dress differently from the mainstream (punk style, though we can argue about that being considered anti-mainstream in another thread) and going to a church because they are interested in attending a Mass and they have no other types of clothes than what they have on. How many people would judge them and make them feel unwelcome. It’s upsetting to think that.

I’m not asking that! I’m asking you what would you do if he chose to refuse to listen to you and tried to continue his way INTO the Church so he can attend Mass while still wearing his Deicide t-shirt.

You keep avoiding that and changing the question. How mature.

What if he looks you in the eye, smiles sweetly, says, “Thanks, I am perfectly happy with what I am wearing. Please excuse me, so I can go spend some time in front of the Tabernacle before Mass begins”, and starts to walk away from you, into the church?

I doubt anyone wearing a Deicide t-shirt would be looking to spend time in front of the tabernacle before mass begins.

We’re not talking about alternative folks or metal heads per se. I like metal.

Deicide is outright Satanic with lots of lyrics that offend and insult our Lord, literally. Just do a Youtube search if you’re not familiar with them. I don’t even want to post some of the titles.

Regardless, you do not know if this kid listens to it for that reason. It may be innocent. Maybe he likes the guitars.

I would say “certainly just as soon as you change your shirt, cover it or turn it inside out. We would be happy to lend you a garment if you like.” If the pastor happened to be in the vicinity I would motion him to join the conversation.

BINGO!
This is what makes these hypotheticals so absurd!

So you would prevent someone from going into a church to attend mass? Wow…

And if your pastor says, “I don’t have time for this right now! I’m trying to prepare for Mass!”, and the kid is already kneeling in front of the tabernacle? Will you tackle him, hold him down and force him to remove/change his shirt?

Hmm, wouldn’t that be a great YouTube video? 😃

You’re trying to set-up a hypothetical that simply isn’t going to happen. My pastor always has time to help members of his flock. If someone was trying to enter his parish before Mass with that horrid t-shirt I think he would use it as a chance to catechise.

Also, please stop trying to put words into my mouth. Thanks.

What if the Pope moved the Holy See to your town and chose you parish to be the St. Pete’s of the Americas? What if he personally set the dress code of morning dress or tuxedos for men (depending on the time of day/night) and formal gowns for women? Hypotheticals do nothing.

Well, since the Pope has NOT set a dress code, then neither should you. 😉

Just try to get into a Mass at Saint Pete’s or St. John Lateran wearing: shorts, a short skirt, a tank top or a revealing blouse. It’s just not going to happen – unless they cover you with something. There IS a dress code.

That guy in the Deicide t-shirt? NO WAY! LOL!!

🤷

I’m glad I read this AFTER I converted. I’d certainly think twice about it now. I thank God not everyone thinks and acts this way.

Talk about judging others! You’d never know if you attended Mass with me. I don’t comment about people who dress inapporpriately for the Mass. They aren’t going to change. Heck, the first things that come out of peoples’ mouths around here are “if anyone said anything I would never go back!” Mass must really mean a lot to you, huh?

(Actually the first thing is “at least they were at Mass.”)
You may not make comments about the dress of others at Mass, but it is obvious that you have mulled over this issue and stewed over it in your mind, and allowed it to fester and your soul to become twisted.

You obviously harbor unpleasant thoughts about others at Mass who are not up to your personal code.

Yes, the Catechism makes a comment (just ONE comment) about dress at Mass which is quoted over and over again in this thread, so you are correct to point out that the Church does have something to say about dress at Mass.

But the comment is very general, not specific. There is plenty of room in that comment for people to dress in casual attire or in work attire. The Catechism doesn’t “forbid” any kind of attire other than those outfits that are immodest.

You don’t seem to recognize the harshness and rigidity of your stance on this issue. That’s what concerns me and others–you are hurting yourself and your soul by taking such a harsh stand and mulling over it.

This is the kind of burden that you should release.

Ask the Holy Spirit to guide people in their choice of dress at Mass, and then forget about it. The Holy Spirit will prompt the priest, His ordained servant, to speak up if dress at Mass becomes an issue that offends the Lord Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and impedes the spiritual growth of the congregation. We are not the priests, and we shouldn’t be trying to be “Father” to others.

Let the Holy Spirit do this work of convicting fellow Christians about dress. This is a trivial issue (only one paragraph in the Catechism), and there is so much genuine work to do in the Church and so little time. Why waste your mind and soul on this issue? Find another task to occupy your mind and your soul.

I do not object to responding to allcaps, so I will only say, “So what?” St. Peter’s Cathedral does not, has never and will never extend their dress code beyond it own doors. The Vatican has a different parish demographic than pretty much any other parish in the world. Are you not aware of the uniqueness of The Vatican, or are you deliberately trying to make an illogical point?
