Changing the world in this manner isn’t just about the money, but perception, influence, and the leverage thereof. For however many billions (or even trillions) of dollars that Zuckerberg or Bezos may accumulate in their lives, they themselves will never have the capacity to touch peoples’ hearts since they lack the fundamental characteristics required to do so. Strip them of their money and the remnants are nothing short of dull, and when it pertains to interpersonal relations, the person, not the company, is what people will see and judge accordingly.
That’s not to say having a good heart is sufficient either. There have been many well-intentioned laypeople, priests, and even saints, that, for all the good that they’ve sought to do, failed to make a “splash” in the mainstream audience, and the few that have (such as Mother Teresa), weren’t able to perforate the masses from a trajectory conducive for sustained, universal impact across multiple generations, as, in the present age, the beloved saint is primarily revered by those who are already interested in, or within the Church.
The unfortunate fact remains that simply having financial supremacy isn’t enough. If it was, then Bill Gates and Billy Graham alone would’ve succeeded in “fixing” the economic and spiritual landscape respectively. There needs to exist both sufficient wealth to establish economic dominance, and an individual who’s brand-able and inspirational enough to touch peoples’ hearts on a personal level. Throughout all of this though, humility, and most importantly, love–both of God and others, must remain at the center (1 Corinthians 13: 1-3). If these requirements were ever met, then that person would have a fair shot.
“Changing the world” to a significant degree is no easy task, and with the various strategic, inherent, and financial demands that this endeavor brings, it can be safely assumed that no existing celebrity could pull it off, and it would likely require a new individual who’s devoted to this cause to pull it off in any lasting, noteworthy capacity.
This isn’t to say that you cannot do good in your current situation though. Christ gives us an opportunity to serve those around us and improve their lives in our own way every day. Before worrying about the grand scheme, work on heeding the call given to all of us, and improving today.
