This is a repentagram. It is used by the Christian metalcore band Impending Doom (and I heard that Crimson thorn has used it. I don’t know how true that is though) and according to them (they created the symbol) the 9 points represent the 9 fruits of the Holy Spirit. Before I continue I must say that I stick by that meaning and that I support the symbol. The symbol is supposed to mock the similar, but satanic, pentagram. Some people complain about the repentagram saying that since you can still make out a inverted pentagram then the symbol is still evil. If you really look you can somewhat see the pentagram but it’s kinda hard to connect dots in a circle and have an original shape (but IMO Impending Doom nailed it. They made it look kinda like a cross) so the slight shape of a pentagram might have been an accident.

I know this isn’t a new thing but still.

Thoughts??

Well I don’t want to go and wear it on my battle jacket and be mistaken for a satanist. I really like the symbol but I just want to know how it is accepted in the Christian/Catholic community. Make sense?

“Kinda like a cross”… honestly not ,even making an effort to see it…
Looks like a messed up pentagram to me…
Evil? It is a meaningless drawing ,unless the band promotes disasters…

I dunno I see a cross in the middle. Lol the band doesn’t really promote disasters but they are a very heavy band. Which is good. I geuss everyone has different views on this sort of stuff. I geuss since I’m big into the metal scene I see this as a good thing, combating the satanic side of metal. Cleansing the best genre on earth!!

Be prepared to explain all the " symbolism" of the " symbol " and one thing: be careful with the volume of your earphones!
Go sing,Charles!
( I like rock too!)

I’m all for Christian bands using symbolism and turning “evil” symbols into a message that promotes Christ’s victory over sin. Demon Hunter’s demon skull with a bullet hole in the forehead, Oh Sleeper’s shattered pentagram and Sletchvalk’s pagan idols with missing arms and feet come to mind. This one doesn’t sit well with me though. It’s two lines off from being another satanic and pagan symbol and unlike the others the symbolism is hidden.

Overall it looks like a reversed pentagram to me (head of Baphomet) with more details added to it. Not that I am implying anything about the band itself, how can I. Most rock music uses satanic symbols even though (I hope) they’re not actually practicising any of it. But just like the Cross brings in the spirits of Christianity, the satanic symbols bring on the demons.
Now we will tempted no matter what we do, even in prayer. So running away from these symbols as in fearing them too much sounds like mystifying them also. Maybe all we can do is be aware. I don’t think that chasing anyone who uses these symbols simply solves anything. Plus I bet they will be around till the second coming so we have to move above them.🐦

What band says about this symbol:
““We’ve gotten a lot of mail questioning the Repentagram Logo, I would like to take time right now to explain it to you all. First off we are a christian band and a real one at that, we would never put something out that had satanic meaning or anything negative. We thought up the word “REPENTAGRAM” basically putting two words together. 1. REPENT (meaning: to feel such sorrow for sin or fault as to be disposed to change one’s life for the better; be penitent.) 2. PENTAGRAM (which in the dark metal world is a satanic symbol.) Since we are a Christian death metal band we wanted to think up something clever; thus the Repentagram came into thought. It is not the same amount of sides as a pentagram, we are going for making a Christian death metal symbol. Just like we created the word “GORSHIP” (which as you all should know, does NOT mean worship gore, it means worshiping God through our Gore sounding music) the Repentagram is just the new word. Please pass this information along to anyone you may know that thinks anything more than it really is.”[citation needed]”

Catholics don’t worry about such stuff for the most part, unless it is a Nazi swastika or a blasphemous representation of Jesus or Mary. They don’t get all fired up about a pentagram or something that looks like a pentagram; such symbols don’t have any power over those who follow Jesus.

I suspect some “Christians” get a lot more het up about it as shown by Tipper Gore…then again, one of the best Christians I know plays in a band called “Pentagram” and has for years.

God bless

Well, the interesting aspect about this is that a right-side up pentageam actually is a Christian symbol. Satanists are fond of taking Christians symbols and “perverting” them some way, like turning them upside-down, to be satanic.

Sir Gawaine had a pentagram (pentangle) painted onto the inside of his sheild. It is discussed here: Symbolism of Gawain’s Pentangle | Early English Literature. (they don’t capitalizes Chrisitianity, which seems rude), and one of the symbolisms attached was of course the 5 wounds of Christ.

I see… So no-one should care if I put one of these on my battle jacket? I already have a real tiny one on there but I want to have this AS THE BACKPATCH (so really big). I think I’ll wear it to Skillet just as a test run…

yeah, except they turned more from the core style to straight on death metal. Some of there heavier stuff has even been classified as white (metal with the same sound as black metal but a different meaning, no satanism.) or unblack metal. I’d prefer if they stayed in death metal and death core though. Brookes voice isn’t really cut out for the really low gutturals that he would need to constantly do on unblack metal, and there are already a lot of really good white metal bands; like Crimson Thorn and Ceremonial Sacred. But what we need is a Christian/Catholic grindcore band!!!

I can see that. The main reason I would say that that isn’t it is because in the extreme metal world, being an “underground” band is preferred over being an “exposed” or “mainstream” band. That being said, the only real marketing that a lot of these bands do is done at concerts, festivals, and online among there fan base. They don’t really try to become huge bands, mainly because they want to keep extreme metal extreme metal. They don’t want it to be absorbed by other genres or for other genres to influence there music too much. On the other hand, Impending Doom has been steadily becoming more mainstream. I’m not sure if that is there plan, but if it is then the repentagram could have very much been a part of it.

This star is simply art. There is no mathematical regularity to it. See, for example, that most of the points connect 2 lines, but the two uppermost points connect 3 lines. Also some of the lines skip 2 points on the circumference, and some skip 3 points.

It is possible to see a cross in this figure if you consider the perspective. In the movie Dirty Harry, there is a good example of this:

An 8-point star inscribed in a circle would look more like a flat (non-perspective) cross.
