Need information. How dose the Catholic Church see this happening. I also understand the rapture was inserted into the original Bible. Is that true and when was it inserted?

When I was in school, many a moon ago, I was taught that Jesus could return at any time and nothing more needed to happen.

I am 62.

If you are talking about raptures and tribulations , they were always in the Bible and are still there. Men like the Englishman John Darby, American William Miller and Pittsburgher Charles Taze Russell, among dozens of others, swept the dust off of their bibles and came up with various theories of dispensationalism. Probably one of the most notable publicists for this was Hal Lindsey who is still kicking and wrote best sellers on the topic.

But none of this has traditionally had much if anything to do with the Catholic Church.

The rapture was not inserted into the Bible because is not in the bible today.
It is part of a theory dispensationalism, Which is a theological theory created by a bunch of Protestants around 200 years ago.

The Catholic teaching on the second eschatology is roughly as follows:
  1. After the Ascension of Jesus, the world entered the end times: a period of anticipation of Christ’s second coming
  2. after the death of John, public revelation by God ended
  3. before the second coming: three things must occur: the Gospel must be proclaimed to all nation’s, the great tribulation (persecution) of the Church, and the Jewish people must make a final decision about accepting Jesus.
  4. The church does not teach if any of these events have occurred or not
  5. on the last day, Jesus will come again, the dead will be resurrected, and the general judgement will occur.

Yes, but I think it would be a weak argument with respect to the second two. Has there been a universal persecution of the Church? Not that I know of, at least not since Roman times. Even then, there were parts, albeit small, of the Church that was outside the Roman Empire and not affected.
As to the Jews, I would expect something, I don’t know what, to again bring the need to accept or reject Christ to the fore of the Jewish people. In the past, mistreatment of Jews by Christians has, if anything, kept it from happening.

The events are described in CCC 673-677. Chronologically:
  1. the full number of the Gentiles come into the Church
  2. the “full inclusion of the Jews in the Messiah’s salvation, in the wake of the full number of the Gentiles” (#2 will follow quickly on, in the wake of, #1)
  3. a final trial of the Church “in the form of a religious deception offering men an apparent solution to their problems at the price of apostasy from the truth.” The supreme deception is that of the Antichrist.
  4. Christ’s victory over this final unleashing of evil through a cosmic upheaval of this passing world and the Last Judgment.

Oh, I think the church is universally persecuted. It certainly is in the US.
We don’t know what goes on in the hearts of Jews. With the internet they certainly
have been confronted with the truth. But, I don’t know. I guess you agreed that at least a weak argument can be made. God will be the one who decides when.

Yes, that is what I meant to say. An argument can be made, but it would be weak.

I certainly do not think the Church in the US is going through a great persecution. Oh, the modern culture, some laws, politucains, etc certainly oppose the Church
But by and large, we are allowed to worship at will, live our lives freely, and not be in fear. I am just guessing the final tribulation will be a little tougher on all of us.

If “Rapture” appears in your bible, burn it! It is man-made! Get a better translation.

The so-called rapture is a single man’s opinion, based on zero authority to interpret - or - to proclaim doctrine!

What did our Lord say?
Luke 21
“And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and upon the earth distress of nations in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, men fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to take place, look up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”
The bolded words are what we should watch for. Anything more than this is blind guesswork at best, misleading lies at the worst. That is ALL that the Lord has revealed.

Hew also said, “Watch

We had a polish priest in our parish. One morning in his morning mass homily he said, you know in Poland
it is very clear who the enemy is. In the US it is much harder to tell.

Etymologically, “rapture” is taken from the Latin “rapiemur”, which appears in the Latin Vulgate. So technically the word is appropriate, but given the existence of Dispensationalism, I think translating it as such rather than giving the Latin word’s meaning would be unwise.
It certainly is in the US.
I’m not really sure I’d say we’re being persecuted. Culturally, there’s resistance to Catholic teaching. However, it is still a big deal if someone flips you off while driving away all because you’re Christian. I’m not sure I’d call such an environment “persecution”. It just seems disrespectful to what Christians elsewhere are going through. We have it really good right now. Could it be better? Sure, but let’s not act like facing resistance is equivalent to persecution.

The second coming?

From our Lord…

20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Sooooo…I would keep your wicks trimmed and have plenty of oil, and do not be caught sleeping…He said only the Father in Heaven knows the exact time…

My point being, do not get sidetracked too much…there is so much work still to do without becoming focused on an event that WILL happen but is not for US to know…

Cheers,

M

Rapture” is scandalous. I would still burn such a horrible translation. I’ll take that risk.

The notion of the rapture is fairly new. It’s basically a hope skip and jump around various verses in both the Old and New Testament that were never meant to be combined in such a way. Very much like bible code people who take every third letter to form new words and sometime come up with a name of a person today and take that as a prophesy.

Basically Catholics believe that we get our bodies back at the end. ‘Resurrection of the body’ The very end. Not a pre end period where select people are safe from the antichrist. It’s an all at one time Jesus returns and there is a new heaven and new earth event. The way we read revelation is that it is in part written in code to survive the time period cause part of it was written about that particular time period, part what is to come.

Jesus said no one knew and not to be anxious. Not to believe people who say they know cause only the Father knows. So Catholics aren’t thinking about this. We just watch the left behind movies as entertainment fantasy and to understand what notions others have in their heads.

Believers may be able to pick and chose a faith but I do think the church is going through a lot. Course it has through history. I don’t think it has anything to do with the end. World wide the church is going through a lot. Believers die in church bombings. In dozens of countries you can’t chose to be Christian if you were a different religion before that. Vocations are lacking due to smaller family size and acceptable work options for married and single. The rest of the world however if rich in vocations. The West is the new mission field. Lots of people treat church as an event location and don’t do more inside it besides baptizing babies, weddings and funerals. We have a world where one Christian tries to convert other Christians.

He will come again in Glory to judge the living and the dead and His Kingdom shall have no end.

Pick up David Currie’s book “Rapture” for a very detailed look at the Catholic teaching.

We should all read Revelation in the King James Version Bible. I read parts of it, and it seems some of you haven’t read any of it. So many prophesies in it have come true.

My opinion is that the second coming of Jesus is nothing less than a global nuclear war, and that this event is predicted in Isaiah 66:15-16, Jeremiah 25:32-33, Luke 12:49, and Luke 21:34-35.

This will take place in the first half of the 21st century.

On the very last day, at the end of time, the Day of the Lord, at the second coming of Christ, this will happen.

1 Thessalonians 4:17

1 Thessalonians 4:17 New American Bible (Revised Edition) (NABRE)
17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Thus we shall always be with the Lord.
