A few quick points
** Runningdude**. I’ve always wondered about comparing Mary to Bathsheba as both Queen Mothers. To begin with, Bathsheba was essentially raped by King David who had her husband killed so he could have her as a wife. As for King Solomon, their son, the ‘wisest man in the world’? - according to scripture - he had 700 wives and 300 concubines. A model family for our time? I don’t think so.
Code:
1. I noticed that after Vatican II many churches removed many of their statues. It seemed to be an admission that such statuary had gotten out of hand.
2. Here there is an Italian parade each year. Mary is paraded through the streets, with money attached to her. I find the whole thing medieval. If one's regards it as a cultural observance, okay. But otherwise... well, I find it bordering on superstition.
3. I've always had trouble with some wording in the Ten Commandments. Yes, the word 'jealous' to describe God is one. I am bothered also by the idea (Ex. 20:7) that God punishes the third and fourth generations. Fair?
4. Do we really believe that it is always wrong to steal? What about the CIA, etc - or stealing the documents from bin Laden's residence recently? Or, murder? Gosh, how many people have we murdered in wars, past and present? I know, I know. There are exceptions. Or, are they rationalizations. After all, two chapters later we are told to murder witches plus all others who worship someone other than Jehovah! (Ex. 22:18, 20). God told Joshua to murder everyone in Jericho, and commanded Saul to slaughter every Amalekite not already slaughtered.
5. As for observing the Sabbath, well, God meant the 7th day, not the first, of course. And working on the Sabbath? Should we close the stores as we did in the old days?
Lots more, but that's enough.
