Where do we go to KNOW we are being fed by the HS ?
Also Catholicism isn’t as untied as Catholics make out. Which are guided by the Holy Spirit? The Thomist or the Molinist? The Catholic Charismatic movement or those who speak against it? (I’ve seen heated arguments between Catholics on this site about those two topics) and so on.

From what I can see, Catholics have their conservative/traditional wing, their evangelical wing (which are almost functional protestants, complete with Youth Group pizza parties and Vacation Bible School), the Liberal wing, and the Charismatic wing which looks a lot like Evangelical Charismatic churches.

In other words, the Catholic church deals with the same opinions, experiences and cultural pressures that Evangelical Christianity does. Just proclaiming unity doesn’t make it so.

We are not torn apart trying to decide which church to go to every Sunday morning, just as you are not trying to decide between Novus Ordo mass, or a Tridentine mass, or an SSPX or Latin Rite mass and a few others, not to mention if you are so blessd to be able to choose between this priest or that priest that you may have an afinity to, etc., etc…

Thank you for the clarification.
Sometimes we do not even realise it, but clarification just has a way of making it’s way to us!

You have been present with us Margaret_Ann. Sometimes it was very concerning! But none the less you were there! Care to inform us a bit more?

But what does that mean? [faith in Christ]
  1. Do you believe Christ? … I will give YOU THE KEYS to the kingdom of heaven . Whatever YOU bind on earth shall be bound in heaven ; and whatever YOU loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven .”
  2. Do you believe Christ? … Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them , and whose sins you retain are retained
  3. Do you believe Christ? … This IS my body
  4. Do you believe Christ? … “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you .
5. Do you believe Christ?… “Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being * born from above.
  1. Do you believe Christ? … TEND MY SHEEP [Shepherd]
Okay ArchStanton! You are new to this thread and I may wager Catholic Answers in general (Your joining date would say a lot earlier but your posts claim something different).

The horses you are posting have been beaten, resurrected and beaten again countless times. You have almost 3000 posts to work through. Please do that first and then post. Nothing you are posting would be considered new! It is aĺl there. Take some time and go through it.

Regards

well it depends, I was more torn apart when I was deciding which church to go as a protestant, did a lot of church hopping.

Ok. Sorry to hear that. I didnt have anxiety because a church kind of found me. That is I went to the church that spiritually birthed me. I eventually moved and had to find a church again. Went to three places, all pleasant but for sure found one quite in tune with what I left. Was not stressful perhaps because I was already well grounded after 6 years of being a Christian. Plus what helped was having the attitude of finding a church just not be be served, but one in which I could serve also.

I was raised christian, stopped practising the faith and reverted. One of the biggest issue I have was the lack of emphasis on the personal faith. I was always surrounded by community, my faith was moulded by the community. E.g. if you believe this, I will believe this. I never really had the intellectual capacity to ponder about the personal faith. It was only when I encountered immense hardship, then I realised that community can only supplement me, rather than provide me. After recovering from the hardship, I started to go to church alone, but was still facing pressure from community to ask me to be a part of them when I decline, especially in evangelical non-liturgical churches.

I was invited to a liturgical church and I truly experience the beauty where God first, community second. There was more seriousness on the personal faith and it was different from my past experience where God and community were in the same order/status in the evangelical church that I attend. From then on, I have continued to attend a liturgical church, regardless of the theology.

I think the idea of serving is great, but I think it’s up to one’s conscience. In the evangelical church I used to go to, there was a heavy emphasis on serving. It was to a certain extent, seen as wrong to not serve in church. Being someone that is more inclined towards community volunteering, it made me felt highly uncomfortable.

Oh my…where to start…

Please don’t wager [you would lose your $]. I have been on CA for a few decades posting most of the time on the old forum and under the articles until that dissolved. You mention going back through the posts even though you started on this one in February and I was on this thread last year. If you don’t like what I am posting, ignore them…but wouldn’t that go against your profile? [understanding Catholics, why they do what they do, think what they think, etc]

Have a good day!

Employment of mild sarcasm to help someone see themself is not an unkind action.

If that was directed at me, I was a lot calmer this morning when I posted. If I had responded last night when I saw the post [it was a bit of an attack/unnecessary] , I would be in confession right now 😉

Not as kind as I should, and not having paid attention to past posts for context, I read it as “I’ve been around here a lot longer than you sonny, and if you ignore me, then you’re not living up to your claim of wanting to learn”. For that I apologize.

The conversation with another Catholic in this thread hasn’t exactly been peachy - his operating premise is that all non-Catholic Christians are doomed to hell unless they repent and submit to the Pope. Perhaps I’m still a bit on edge from that.

Brother in Christ,

I totally understand what you are saying. When I am ‘on a road game’ [carm], I get the same feeling.

Blessings!

Fair enough. Feel free to go right ahead then. Not that you would have but don’t mind my post then. I commend 1 specific person here for keeping his cool and very graciously keeps on reponding to the same stuff since the beginning.

As for the thread I did actually literally start at number 1 and worked through up until I first posted. Was it time well spent? Maybe not but hey, what else should I do late at night. But I can tell you the whole thread has been in repeat mode a few times over and will probably be again a few more times.

Thanks for reading my profile. I have been wanting to change it a bit but I can’t for the life of me figure out how to do that on my mobile phone.

Have a great day too. 🙂

I think that this thread has basically run its course. But who knows for sure.
