Brother Jay, I want you know my wife was horrified, HORRIFIED, the Pope is not allowed to have cats at the Vatican.

Psssst…BTW, if he wants a couple…I might be able to arrange…
😃
Are you suggesting that we smuggle cats across the border into Vatican City?

I’d rather give him new furniture and drapes. That green has got to go.

:rotfl:

Happy New Year!

Yeah, that green is a wee bit overdone. He needs something on the chairs with a little more pattern to it, but, that rug is definitely way too much pattern. That thing would make me dizzy, or even a little seasick after a while! :hypno:

I realize it’s not as exciting as smuggling guns past the Nazis to the French resistance in WW2, but its worth a shot.😃

Believe it or not, those are his tastes. The Papal Apartments are done according to the pope’s tastes. I read, in an interview, where he said that he had not purchased the furniture in the Papal Apartment. He chose what they had in storage. The only furniture and accessories that he brought with him to the Vatican is what was in his former office at the CDF. He said that it was easier for him to have his office transferred and done exactly like his previous office, because he had been there for about 25 years, so he was very familiar with the setup.

However, were I him, I would have asked if they had a solid colored carpet, preferably in a neutral color, buff colored furniture with a few bright pillows that popped, and maybe a bold color on the walls with buff or brown drapes. I like life in a room. 😃

in simple terms the vatican has always been wealthy because the church is God’s treasury and that private church treasury is always replenished every era in the course of world history.

the catholic popes (history of the catholic popes) have particular traditions for papal vestments and dress.

and the clergio priesthood also have particular traditions for vestments and dress.

and . . .the mexican gangbangers like khakis white shirts and dickey brand clothing.

This office I actually know. I have never been in his office in the Vatican. But I have been in his old office at the Congregation for the Faith. He had the entire room a the Vatican painted and furnished exactly like his old office. I’m not sure if they’re the same size. His old office was not very large. I would say about 20 x 15 judging from the size of the bookcases that saw there.

His dining room is small. It’s actually the size of a family dining room. There is a formal dining room down the hall where they have state affairs. Of course, if you look to the right, you will see a wall hanging of St. Francis.

This is in what we would call the family room. The Europeans don’t call it that.

I’ve been in this chapel. It’s very modern and very beautiful. Pope John XXIII had it redone. There were many statues on the altar and many religious artifacts on the walls. Bl. John XXIII had it simplified. The ceiling and windows were always the same. The altar had a communion rail that Bl. John XXIII had taken out. There were pews that he had removed. They were replaced by chairs that can be moved around. The altar is not against the wall as it appears. You can walk around it.

Bl. John XXIII was a Secular Franciscan. He once wrote that he was inspired by the simplicity of the San Damiano chapel in Assisi.

Oh my God. The sisters are showing their legs.

Just kidding. There are many sisters who work in the Vatican in different kinds of dress, from business suits to long habits. The ones who worked for Cardinal Ratzinger and probably still do, were from Spain. The wore a grey business suit, but no veil. They were absolutely delightful and very intelligent women. The one who took care of me when I went there spoke about five languages and had two doctorates, one in theology and one in Scripture. She worked for Msgr. Giorgio.

I believe this may be his formal office. I’ve never seen that part of the building, so I wouldn’t know exactly. I’ve been in the salon where he meets private audiences. This looks like the formal office that is off of the salon. The three times that I have been there for small group audiences, all we could see was the door open and close quickly as he entered and left. It looked like there was an office on the other side. It looked too tidy to be a place of work.

Green is a pretty soothing color. I can rock the Green, 👍 God Bless him. Last few times I’ve seen him, he seems to be having a bit more trouble moving around.

The last few homilys I’ve heard were profound though, the one on Christmas Eve Mass which led to this thread, the Feast of the IC. He’s been a Blessing to listen to.

Has to be a facinating Library. I imagine he does a bit of praying in that chapel. I have seen many of the Popes sleeping quarters over the years. Their you find a simplicity also which is very telling. I haven’t seen Pope Benedicts but I assume its not much different.

How did Obama sneak in the photo layout?

Peace

Just imagine the ensuing chaos if a tabby decided to take a walk across the window sill during the Angelus. 😃

Actually since Italian Unification the Papacy is much poorer than previously, relying now on donations from the faithful rather than income from land.

I see the pics of his playing the piano.

Does anyone know about how much leisure time he gets? Or what the his average day is like?

The Vatican Papacy is poor! ok . .
Poorer. Like a guy who has a big mansion and is forced to sell it and buy a decent sized house in a nice neighborhood is poorer than he was.

While it owns many priceless artifacts, those don’t bring in money. The vast majority of the budget of Vatican City is provided by the donations of the faithful.

SInce it’s been over 80 years now, I am not sure what kind of changes have been in more recent years.

Vatican City, though true enough, is not nearly as weathly as people imagine. They really did make more money when the Papal States were in their control
A lot of American dioceses bring in more money than the Vatican state does now, and it’s total yearly budget isn’t even as large as a mid-sized American university.
