I am not the one who used Saul as an example for why asking saints to intercede on our behave is a good thing.
you still miss the point. You believe once the physical body has died, the soul goes to sleep. Most protestants believe in soul sleep even though they will deny it. To believe the dead know nothing is to believe in soul sleep as the SDA’s do.

The incident with Saul was used to show that those departed do know what is going on and some even know the future. How did Samuel know the future. A gift of Satan or a gift of God?

No. You miss the point.

You say Samuel knew things because he had already died.

These verses do not demonstrate that Samuel knew anything more than when he was alive on Earth.

1Sa 13:14 But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him [to be] captain over his people, because thou hast not kept [that] which the LORD commanded thee.

1Sa 15:28 And Samuel said unto him, The LORD hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbour of thine, [that is] better than thou.

Have you forgotten this part, Ginger?

Because he did not obey the voice of the Lord, and did not carry out his fierce wrath against Amalek, therefore the Lord has done this thing to you today. Moreover, the Lord will give Israel along with you into the hands of the Phillistines, and tomorrow you and your sons shall be with me, the Lord will also give the army of Israel into the hands of the Phillistines."

Point taken.

have you forgotten the woman in Act 16 could predict the future?

So Ginger,

by your premise, dead saints don’t know their surrounding?

So when you die, and suppose you are in heaven, you won’t be aware of things about the earth, especially those whom you know, whom you deeply love? Do you think you’ll stop loving them? Would not you wonder how they are doing?

The spiritual realm itself is outside time and space. This include heaven, and hell. So in some essence the demons would know something we don’t. They themselves live outside time and space.

As far as how much they know, I think is very limited.

Job 1:12 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath [is] in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

If God truly turned His back on Saul as the Scripture says. then I think it possible satan knew as much as Samuel did about what was going to happen to Saul.

She also wasn’t dead.

The sin of Saul was not that he prayed to Samuel, but that he used the services of a witch to bring him back into this world.

When Catholics pray to the Saints, we don’t try to bring them back into this world. They stay where they are (in Heaven) and we stay where we are, here in this world.

There is no sin in asking a fellow-Christian to pray for you. Those in Heaven are more alive now than they were when they were in this world, so there is no question of “contacting the dead.” They are fully alive.

But you are assuming they can hear your prayers and know your “mental prayers”. Just because someone may be alive doesn’t mean you can or its possible to communicate with them.

You keep missing the point.

What is actually prohibited? There is only one right answer.

A. Contacting Spirits
B. Raising Spirits
C. Consulting Mediums

Asking a saint in heaven to aid you in your personal requests and your personal needs of God is not what you believe it to be.
How is not praying to a saint you believe to be in heaven ( which there is no proof for) any different than contacting a spirit?

What assumption are you making when you pray to a saint in heaven?

But you are assuming they can hear your prayers and know your “mental prayers”. Just because someone may be alive doesn’t mean you can or its possible to communicate with them.
They can. Tabitha whom Peter rose from the dead after he pray. If you claim that someone** who is dead cannot hear** then explain how Jesus and the Apostles were able to raise them up from the dead?

Acts 9:40 said:
40 And they all being put forth, Peter kneeling down prayed, and turning to the body, he said: Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes; and seeing Peter, she sat up.

JoeyWarren;2708176]CONTACT that is the magic word.

Contact: the act or state of touching; a touching or meeting, as of two things or people.
Asking those in heaven to pray for us is not CONTACTING them.
Hhu? How is it not contacting them? Do they not have to be able to understand your language and requests?
Now consulting a medium is for the purpose of CONTACTING. ie BRING ONESELF FACE TO FACE. That is what the medium did, she brought the spirit of samuel up out of that temporary holding place for the purpose of a CONTACT.

They can. Tabitha whom Peter rose from the dead after he prayed over here body. If you claim that someone who is dead cannot here then explain how Jesus and the Apostles were able to raise them up from the dead?
There is no evidence in these cases that the person themselves had the ability to hear Peter or Jesus and respond to them. It is a power that God granted Peter to do this. The same with our Lord.

Praying to the saints is not the same as using them as medium. The saints offer prayers to God.

8 And when he had opened the book, the four living creatures, and the four and twenty ancients fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints: Revelation Chapter 5:8

“Samuel knew things”

So did the woman in Acts.

“She was not dead”

True, but I already pointed out that is was not the woman who knew, it was the demon inside her.

The point is that I am not so impressed as the rest of you that Samuel “knew things” Big deal. Demons “know things” too.

Saul and Samuel do not make your point about praying to Saints. You are mixing apples and oranges, yet you act as if I am the one who brought this example up.

I do not disagree with praying for one another. I said that right at the start. Yet you continually tell me we should pray for one another. You are arguing all by yourselves. I agree.

Our dialog cannot progress if you continue to argue points we agree on or insist Samuel is a parallel to your point about praying to the saints.

The difference is that you think it is better to pray to a saint and ask them to ask Jesus to ask God.

I say it is better to go directly to God in prayer.

There is no evidence in these cases that the person themselves had the ability to hear Peter or Jesus and respond to them. It is a power that God granted Peter to do this. The same with our Lord.
There is every evidence.

Jesus spoke to them directly - ‘Lazarus, get up!’, ‘little girl, get up!’ and they do so at that exact instant, clearly because THEY heard him. He didn’t limit himself to saying ‘Father, raise Lazarus’ or ‘Father, raise this little girl’ - he addressed the dead directly because THEY CAN HEAR!

Those who don’t hear don’t respond instantly - like you don’t answer the phone if you don’t hear it ringing!

There is no evidence in these cases that the person themselves had the ability to hear Peter or Jesus and respond to them. It is a power that God granted Peter to do this. The same with our Lord.
If that were true then Peter and Jesus should have not said, Tabitha get up, or Jesus when speaking to Lazarus to come forth.

If you taken communication skills in college or in high school. Speaking requires a receiver and a sender.

Jesus and Peter are sending a message to the soul who is dead. They were also risen when they were told to get up, or come forth.

Your logic falls apart, justasking.

But you are assuming they can hear your prayers and know your “mental prayers”. Just because someone may be alive doesn’t mean you can or its possible to communicate with them.
Where is Heaven? It’s not up in the sky, far away - it’s in my heart, where Jesus is. All of the Saints are with Jesus, in my heart, so there is no reason for them not to be able to understand my prayers, since they are as close to me as I am to myself.
